Campgrounds and RV parks near Eagle, NE

Families basing near Eagle typically split time between Mahoney State Park and the Salt Valley lakes. At Mahoney, visitors can fish Baright and CenturyLink Lakes, ride paddle boats, and use the Activity Center, which includes a large indoor playground and a 42-foot climbing wall. An observation tower overlooks the Platte River Valley, and an aquatic center runs in warmer months. Wagon Train State Recreation Area sits on a 315-acre lake surrounded by 746 acres of land and offers fishing, no-wake boating under 5 mph, picnicking, a swimming beach, and camping, though water-based activities have been limited by low lake levels since a 2022 habitat renovation and ongoing drought. In nearby Ashland, RV travelers can visit the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum and a drive-through wildlife park, and downtown Lincoln adds zoos, museums, and Husker sports within a short drive.

Southeast Nebraska has four distinct seasons with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. In Lincoln, summers are hot, humid, and mostly clear while winters are freezing, snowy, windy, and partly cloudy, with the temperature typically ranging from about 17°F to 89°F over the year. Summer is peak camping season, and popular sites at Mahoney and Wagon Train fill weeks ahead for holiday weekends and Husker football dates. Spring is the wettest stretch and the most storm-prone. The wettest time of year is normally late spring, in May and June, and the driest is the middle of winter, in January and February, with May averaging almost seven times the precipitation of January. Thunderstorms, hail, and tornado watches are common from April through June, so RVers should track alerts and know their shelter options. Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and generally lighter crowds through October. Winter months at Mahoney bring ice skating, sledding, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing, and private parks such as Pine Grove RV Park cater to cold-weather travelers who need hookups.

Sites near Eagle range from resort-style state park loops to quiet lakeside pads and roadside RV parks. Mahoney offers 148 campsites split between the Lakeside and Little Creek campgrounds, with a mix of Full Hookup, Electric Plus, and Electric sites, plus drinking water, showers, modern restrooms, and a dump and fill station near the park entrance. Sites there are close together and family-oriented, and the park stays busy on summer weekends. Wagon Train offers Electric Plus, Electric, and Basic campsites, with 28 camping pads featuring 20-, 30-, and 50-amp hookups and 80 non-pad sites without electricity. Water, primitive restrooms, and a dump station are available, so plan for a more rustic setup than at Mahoney. Pine Grove RV Park and Ashland RV Campground work well for larger rigs and overnight stops, while state-park sites reward those who plan ahead.
