Camping near Gretna, Nebraska
Gretna sits along Interstate 80 between Omaha and Lincoln in eastern Nebraska, putting RV travelers within a short drive of two of the state's most popular camping destinations: Two Rivers State Recreation Area to the north and Eugene T. Mahoney State Park to the south. Both parks are managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and share a single reservation system.
The closest option to town is the West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA Holiday, a private, year-round park just off Interstate 80 that offers full hookups and family amenities. State-park campers can choose between Fawn Meadows, Riverside, and Goldenrod campgrounds at Two Rivers State Recreation Area, or Lakeside at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park.
The area is easy to reach for RVs of any size. Interstate access is direct, the terrain is gently rolling, and paved loop roads run through both state parks, so navigating a larger rig from the highway to a site is straightforward.
Things to do around Gretna
Water recreation anchors most trips. Two Rivers State Recreation Area covers 622 acres with about 320 acres of sandpit lakes, a trout lake that opens to fishing on the second Saturday of March, a swim beach at Lake No. 4 open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and non-powered boating. Eugene T. Mahoney State Park adds Baright and CenturyLink lakes, an aquatic center, paddle boating, and Owen Marina.
Families gravitate to Mahoney's indoor Activity Center, a 42-foot climbing wall, mini golf, disc golf, and an observation tower. In winter, the park adds ice skating, sledding, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing.
Off-park attractions within a short drive include Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Platte River State Park, and Nebraska Crossing outlet shopping in Gretna itself.

The main camping season runs from spring through fall. Summer is peak: warm weather makes swimming, boating, and beach use possible, and campgrounds at Two Rivers and Mahoney fill quickly on weekends and holidays. Book electric and full-hookup sites well in advance for June through August.
Spring brings the trout-lake opener at Two Rivers on the second Saturday of March, along with cooler nights, higher rainfall, and thunderstorm risk. Fall offers lower crowds, comfortable daytime temperatures, and fall color along the Platte River corridor. Freezing temperatures return by October, and overnight lows drop below freezing regularly from November through March.
Both state parks remain open year-round, and Mahoney runs winter programming including ice skating, sledding, and cross-country skiing. Most modern facilities such as full-hookup service, showers, and dump-and-fill stations typically close from mid-October through mid-April depending on weather. Trout tags are required at Two Rivers until June 1 in addition to a Nebraska fishing permit.
How to book a site
State-park sites at Two Rivers and Eugene T. Mahoney are booked through the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reservation system, online or by calling the Reservation Call Center at 1-844-637-2757. Camping reservations are accepted up to 180 days in advance of the arrival date. Cabins, lodge rooms, and group lodges can be booked up to one year in advance.
At both parks, roughly half of the campsites are reservable in advance; the remaining sites are first-come, first-served, and campers register at the park office. A Nebraska State Park entry permit is required for every vehicle, sold daily or annually.
West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA Holiday is booked separately through KOA on its own website or by phone.
What to expect on-site
State-park campgrounds around Gretna are modern in feel. Two Rivers offers electric and non-electric pads with 20-, 30-, and 50-amp service across five campgrounds, with modern restrooms, showers, and a dump-and-fill station. Only non-powered boats are allowed, and the trout lake is closed to boats and reserved for fishing.
Eugene T. Mahoney State Park has 148 campsites ranging from full hookup to electric only, split between the Lakeside and Little Creek campgrounds. Lakeside sits close to Baright Lake and Owen Marina, with showers, restrooms, and a dump-and-fill station near the park entrance.
The West Omaha KOA is more amenity-heavy and family oriented, with full hookups, patio RV sites, a pool, and family activities. Sites can feel close together on busy weekends. Quiet hours at the state parks run 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Gretna RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy that applies to every reservation, including a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund. Refund amounts after that grace period depend on how far in advance of your trip you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or offers travel credit, so you are never stuck. You do not negotiate cancellations with the host; RVezy manages them directly. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Gretna rigs for big weekends like the Nebraska State Fair, then relax knowing flexibility is built in.

Absolutely, plenty of hosts welcome four-legged co-pilots. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching for a pet-friendly RV rental in Gretna and you will see rigs ready for your pup. The area is wonderfully dog-friendly: Eugene T. Mahoney State Park allows leashed pets on most trails and campsites, and Two Rivers State Recreation Area just up the road has open spaces perfect for stretching paws. The Omaha West KOA Holiday in Gretna is also pet-friendly. Message the host directly from the listing to confirm specifics like pet fees before you book.
outdoornebraska.gov/location/eugene-t-mahoney/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Gretna?
Yes, RV delivery in Gretna is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will drive the RV to Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, Two Rivers State Recreation Area, Louisville State Recreation Area, or even your driveway, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter when browsing to see hosts who offer this service. Delivery fees vary based on distance from the host. Pro tip: ask for delivery to your campsite so your entire family RV trip in Gretna starts with the awning already out and the fridge cold.
outdoornebraska.gov/things-to-do/camping/How far can I drive on an RV rental from Gretna, NE?

Late April through early October is prime time for RV camping in Gretna, with the sweet spot being May, June, and September. Summer highs typically reach the mid-80s to low 90s Fahrenheit (29 to 33 Celsius) with warm humid nights, while spring and fall deliver comfortable 60s and 70s and dramatically smaller campground crowds. Winters get cold (often dipping into the teens with snow), but cold-weather-ready hosts do offer winter rentals for ice fishing at Mahoney and holiday light displays at Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha. Pro tip: a late-September trip gives you golden Platte River cottonwoods, Vala's Pumpkin Patch right in Gretna, and your pick of campsites.
weather.gov/oax/climateI've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and Gretna is a fantastic spot for first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump procedures before you leave the driveway. You can also message your host with questions before booking. The area around Gretna is genuinely beginner-friendly: I-80 is wide and flat, Highway 6 and Highway 370 are easy two-lanes, and Eugene T. Mahoney State Park sits just 10 miles south with a simple loop road and pull-through sites. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or a 20-to-25-foot travel trailer for your first Gretna RV trip; they're easier to maneuver than larger Class A rigs.
dot.nebraska.gov/safety/What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Gretna includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the renter protection plan, so help is a phone call away whether you have a flat tire on I-80, a dead battery at Two Rivers, or a propane issue at Mahoney State Park. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for quick troubleshooting; they know their rig better than anyone. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the orientation walkthrough at pickup so you have a quick visual reference for things like the water heater switch or slide controls.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Gretna RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is normal and a big reason people rent an RV in Gretna. You are perfectly positioned for multi-state road trips: Iowa is minutes east across the Missouri River, Kansas is under 3 hours south, South Dakota's Badlands and Mount Rushmore are a popular 7-to-8-hour drive, and Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park is roughly 8 hours west. Cross-border travel into Canada may be permitted depending on the host and insurance terms, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: the I-80 corridor west from Gretna is the classic gateway to the American West.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for your Gretna RV trip is easier than you'd think. Travel trailers don't burn extra gas beyond your tow vehicle's normal MPG drop (usually 30 to 40 percent lower while towing). Class C motorhomes typically average 8 to 12 MPG, Class B campervans 15 to 20 MPG, and Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG. Nebraska gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, and you'll find competitive stations along I-80 in Gretna at the Nebraska Crossing exit and in Ashland. Pro tip: fuel up at the truck-friendly stops on I-80 rather than smaller pumps in town; their lanes are sized for RVs and pull-throughs are easy.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Gretna?
Plan ahead and you'll get exactly the site you want. Nebraska State Parks (including Eugene T. Mahoney, Two Rivers, and Louisville State Recreation Area) open reservations 180 days in advance through the official Nebraska State Parks reservation system, and the prime Mahoney sites for summer weekends often book within hours of the window opening. For private parks like West Omaha/NE Lincoln KOA in Gretna, 2 to 3 months ahead is usually plenty for summer. Half of Mahoney's campsites are held as first-come, first-served, so spontaneous trips are still doable midweek. Pro tip: call 1-844-637-2757 the morning your 180-day window opens for the best shot at Lakeside loop full hookups.
nebraskastateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/eugene-t-mahoney-sp/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NE&parkId=230273What are the driving conditions like around Gretna?
Driving an RV around Gretna is genuinely pleasant. I-80 runs right through town with wide lanes, gentle grades, and plenty of truck-friendly exits at Nebraska Crossing and Highway 6. Local roads like Highway 370 and Highway 31 are flat, well-maintained two-lanes ideal for first-time RVers. The main things to watch for: strong crosswinds on open stretches of I-80 west of town (slow down in a tall Class A), summer thunderstorms with occasional hail or tornado watches between April and June, and winter ice from December to February. Pro tip: check Nebraska 511 before any drive for real-time road conditions, and avoid downtown Omaha rush hour by routing around the city on Highway 50 or Interstate 680.
hb.511.nebraska.gov/What amenities do campgrounds near Gretna offer for RVs?
Local campgrounds are well set up for RVers. Eugene T. Mahoney State Park's Lakeside and Little Creek campgrounds offer full hookup, electric-plus, and electric-only sites, with potable water fill stations and a dump station near the park entrance, modern showers, restrooms, and coin-operated laundry. West Omaha/NE Lincoln KOA in Gretna has 50-amp full hookups, Wi-Fi, cable, and a pool. Louisville and Two Rivers State Recreation Areas have electric hookups plus dump stations. Pro tip: not all sites in Mahoney are full hookup (only about a dozen are), so if you want sewer at your site instead of using the dump station on the way out, book the full hookup loop early or plan a quick dump stop before heading home.
visitnebraska.com/ashland/campgrounds-and-rv-camping-mahoney-state-parkWhat's included inside RVezy rentals in Gretna?
You'll be impressed by how turn-key these rigs are. Most RV rentals in Gretna come with real beds (queen or king in the master, plus convertible dinettes and bunks), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and sink, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning and a furnace, and seatbelted travel seats for everyone riding. Many listings include a generator, TV, outdoor speakers, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. Class B campervan rentals in Gretna are more compact but still pack a kitchenette and bed. Each listing's amenity list is clearly displayed. Pro tip: filter by the Sleeps count first, then check for AC and a generator if you're traveling in July or August Nebraska heat.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options are available?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Common add-ons for an RV rental in Gretna include camping chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, generator-hour packages, bike racks, kayaks, and pet packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Gretna, Papillion, Omaha, or Ashland, with delivery available from many hosts directly to Mahoney State Park, Two Rivers, or Louisville. Mileage policies and any generator-use fees are spelled out on each listing before you book. Pro tip: bundle the bedding and kitchen kits, since arriving to a fully stocked rig saves a stressful Walmart run on day one.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gretna%2C%20NebraskaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Gretna on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit hold is placed on your card before pickup; the exact amount is listed on each rig's page and depends on the RV class and value. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment. As long as you return the RV in the same condition you got it (clean, fueled, and with tanks handled per the host's instructions), the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: do a detailed walkaround video with the host at both pickup and drop-off; it is the simplest way to ensure your full deposit comes back quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best RV road trip ideas starting from Gretna?
You're sitting at a road-trip launchpad. Top RV road trip ideas from Gretna include a weekend at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park (10 miles), a Platte River loop through Louisville and Two Rivers State Recreation Areas (under 30 miles), an Omaha city break with Henry Doorly Zoo and Lauritzen Gardens (25 miles east), Lincoln and the Nebraska State Capitol (35 miles southwest), the Sandhills and Carhenge in Alliance (5 hours west), Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills (about 8 hours northwest), and Kansas City barbecue (3 hours south). Pro tip: don't skip Vala's Pumpkin Patch right in Gretna in September and October; it's one of the largest fall destinations in the Midwest and makes an unforgettable family RV trip stop.
