Campgrounds and RV parks near Hooper, NE

Hooper sits in Dodge County, Nebraska, along the Elkhorn River corridor between Fremont and West Point. RV renters have several public campgrounds within about an hour's drive, most on state or natural-resource-district land, with a mix of electric, primitive, and a few full-hookup sites at the largest park. The closest option is Dead Timber State Recreation Area, a 200-acre park in Dodge County off the Elkhorn River north of Scribner on Highway 275, with 17 electric campsites with 30-amp hookups and four primitive sites currently closed due to flood damage. Southeast toward Wahoo, Lake Wanahoo NRD Recreation Area covers a 1,770-acre area around a 662-surface-acre lake, with 95 gravel camper pads with electrical hookups, 34 primitive non-electric tent sites, 6 primitive cabins and a shower house on the southwest end of the RV area. Further south near Waterloo, Two Rivers State Recreation Area is one of the busiest recreation areas in eastern Nebraska, with multiple campgrounds including Cottonwood and Oak Grove. RiverWest Park sits along the Elkhorn River a short distance from Two Rivers and rounds out the closer options. Together these locations put river fishing, sandpit lakes, a swim beach, and paved bike trails within easy reach of a rented RV based in Hooper.

Nebraska state recreation areas at Two Rivers, including the Cottonwood and Oak Grove loops, take reservations through the Nebraska Game and Parks reservation system. Camping reservations are available up to one year in advance of arrival for half of the electrical campsites, and all other camping is first-come, first-served. The Two Rivers SRA park office does not take reservations over the phone or in person, so booking online is required. All camping at Dead Timber SRA is first-come, first-served, with self-service registration on site. Lake Wanahoo is managed by the Lower Platte North Natural Resources District, not Game and Parks. Half of the camping sites are reservable through the district's booking portal, and entrance to the park requires a Lake Wanahoo NRD Recreation Area park permit from the Lower Platte North NRD. A Nebraska state park entry permit is required at Dead Timber and Two Rivers.
