Campgrounds and RV parks near La Vista, NE

Families based in the metro can build a trip around the Henry Doorly Zoo, the Strategic Air and Space Museum, Boys Town, and the Nebraska Crossing outlets in Gretna. Outdoor time centers on the Platte River corridor. Platte River State Park draws visitors with a picturesque waterfall, spray park, scenic hiking and biking trails and two observation towers that allow those who climb to the top a spectacular view of the Platte River Basin. Visitors can cool off with a swim at the pool, head down to the riverside to fish or kayak, or cruise around Jenny Newman Lake on a paddleboat, and forested hiking and biking trails lead to the observation tower, with a championship golf course, archery range, and horseback rides also on site. At West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA Holiday, on-site amenities typically include a pool, mini golf, a jumping pillow, pedal karts, a large playground, and weekend programming through the summer season.

Eastern Nebraska has a humid continental climate with strong seasonal swings. Summers are hot and humid, winters are cold, and shoulder seasons can shift quickly. Peak camping runs from late spring through early fall, with the busiest weekends tied to summer holidays and Omaha events like the College World Series in June. Spring brings the wettest stretch of the year, with May typically the peak precipitation month and frequent thunderstorms that can bring hail. Summer is hot and humid, with regular afternoons in the 90s Fahrenheit and higher humidity through July and August. Storms can still roll through, so awning use and rig anchoring matter. Fall cools quickly and tends to deliver the driest, most stable weather of the year, making September and October strong shoulder-season picks. Winter camping is limited across the metro. Freezing temperatures are routine from November through March, and some private parks reduce services or close seasonal sections during the coldest months. Platte River State Park offers year-round accommodations and recreational use, though winter demand is light.

Expect a mix of park styles within a short drive of La Vista. Bluffs Run RV Park is essentially a paved casino lot with hookups, close to Omaha but with highway and occasional train noise from the adjacent interstate corridor. The layout is level and well-lit, and the trade-off for convenience is ambient noise. West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA Holiday offers full-hookup pull-throughs, patio sites, and cabins, and can accommodate larger rigs, though the park runs busy in peak season. Sites vary in size and shade. The newer Bison Campground section at Platte River State Park features level sites with electric, water, and sewer connections, though campers note the open layout offers minimal shade or privacy between sites. Cell service is generally strong across the metro and around Gretna, and weaker pockets are possible in wooded sections of the state park.
