Campgrounds and RV parks near Plainview, NE

Plainview sits in northeast Nebraska, roughly halfway between Norfolk and the Missouri River valley. RV travelers use it as a base for reservoir lakes, state recreation areas, and the confluence country where the Niobrara meets the Missouri. Most public campgrounds within an hour or two are run by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, which means a state park entry permit is required in addition to any camping fee. The closest developed camping is at Willow Creek State Recreation Area on a 700-acre reservoir southwest of Pierce, popular for boating, fishing, camping, and swimming. Farther north, Niobrara State Park and Bloomfield - Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area sit along the Missouri River corridor and offer larger campgrounds with lake access. Nebraska Mobile Home/ RV Park provides a simpler in-town option, and Springfield State Recreational Area, across the river in South Dakota on the upper end of Lewis and Clark Lake, rounds out the regional choices. Expect gravel or paved pads, 30 and 50 amp service at electric loops, dump stations at the state areas, and a mix of reservable and first-come sites.

Nebraska state parks use the ReserveAmerica system. Reservations can be made online or by phone at 1-844-637-2757, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Reservations are taken up to one year in advance of arrival day. Not every site is reservable. At Willow Creek, half of the campsites are reservable and the remainder are first-come, first-served, with those camping first-come registering nightly fees at a locked iron ranger box that accepts cash or checks only. During peak season at Niobrara State Park, reservations are accepted for 75 percent of the electrical campsites, and all other camping is first-come, first-served. All vehicles need a Nebraska park entry permit, which is separate from camping fees and can be purchased online or onsite on arrival.
