Campgrounds and RV parks near Stanton, NE

Willow Creek State Recreation Area is the main outdoor draw in the area. The 700-acre reservoir supports boating, shoreline and pier fishing, and a swimming beach, and an 8-mile limestone hike and bike trail loops the lake and connects into Pierce. Equestrian trails and a dedicated horse camp are also part of the property, and a disc golf course rounds out the on-site recreation. In Norfolk, families can visit the Elkhorn Valley Museum, Ta-Ha-Zouka Park along the river, and local aquatic centers. Columbus, near Powerhouse Park - Loup Power, offers the Loup Power Canal for fishing and paddling plus community parks along the Loup River. The Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail, a rail-trail on the former Chicago and North Western corridor, begins at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk and runs west across northern Nebraska, offering long-distance cycling and walking within a short drive of Stanton.

The main camping season in northeast Nebraska runs from late spring through mid-fall. Willow Creek State Recreation Area is open year-round, but most amenities including showers, laundry, and water fill operate on a seasonal schedule tied to freeze risk. Water systems at many public campgrounds in the area are shut off from late fall until spring, so shoulder-season RVers should plan for electric-only stays and use onboard tanks. Summer is peak season. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day fill quickly at Willow Creek and at the private parks nearest Norfolk. Heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms are common in June and July, and toxic-algae advisories can close swimming beaches on area reservoirs during hot stretches. Spring and fall bring cooler temperatures, lower demand, and generally good fishing on the Elkhorn and at Willow Creek Reservoir. Winter camping is possible but limited: expect subfreezing nights, snow cover, and closed water services at nearly every public site.

Willow Way Campground at Willow Creek offers 165 electric sites with 20, 30, and 50-amp service and accepts big rigs up to about 70 feet. Restrooms, showers, and laundry are on site, and campers report that the dump station has been closed at times, with an alternative dump and fill available next to the Pierce County Courthouse about 5 miles from the lake. Sites are largely open to lightly wooded, and cell coverage is generally reliable. Private parks in Stanton and Norfolk are smaller and more utilitarian, focused on hookups, easy highway access, and overnight or extended stays rather than resort amenities. Expect gravel pads, basic laundry and shower buildings, and simple check-in. Bring bug spray for mosquitoes near the river and reservoir, a surge protector for older rural electrical pedestals, and drinking water for shoulder-season trips when park water may be off.
