Campgrounds and RV parks near Bridgehampton, NY

Bridgehampton itself is known for ocean beaches, farm stands, and the Bridgehampton Museum. Sagg Main and Mecox beaches sit within a short drive, and the village center has restaurants, galleries, and summer polo matches at nearby farms. Eastward, Montauk offers the historic lighthouse, surf beaches at Ditch Plains, and boat charters out of the harbor. The walking dunes of Napeague Harbor sit on the eastern boundary of Hither Hills, which also has woodlands of Russian olive, oak, shad, and pine, plus bridle paths and hiking, biking, and cross-country ski trails. North Fork day trips include Greenport village, wineries along Route 25, and Orient Beach State Park. From Connecticut-side campgrounds, families use the beaches, salt marshes, and nature centers at Hammonasset and Rocky Neck, and Mystic Seaport is within a short drive.

The camping season on eastern Long Island runs roughly mid-April through late November. Hither Hills opens in April and closes in November, with peak season running mid-June through mid-September at a seven-night reservation minimum, and two-night minimums allowed off-peak. Connecticut shoreline parks follow a similar rhythm, with a Sunday-to-Sunday seven-night minimum required at Hammonasset Beach and Rocky Neck in peak season, and a typical camping season from May into early September. July and August bring the largest crowds, warmest ocean water, and the tightest availability. Late spring and early fall are cooler and quieter, and September in particular offers warm days, cool nights, and easier bookings after Labor Day. Winter closes most campgrounds. Snow is possible but usually modest thanks to the maritime influence, and coastal storms and nor'easters can bring wind, rain, and beach erosion from late fall through early spring. Atlantic hurricane season peaks in August and September, and travelers should watch forecasts for tropical systems tracking up the coast.

Most public campgrounds in this region are rustic by RV standards. Rocky Neck has no trailer or RV hookups, and hoses may not be left connected to taps. Hammonasset has more than 550 grassy sites with restrooms, showers, a camp store, dump stations, and water, plus a limited number of electric and water sites for an extra fee, and pets are not allowed. Hither Hills sites are back-in style with equipment length limits of roughly 20 to 40 feet depending on the site and no electrical hookups, and dogs are not permitted in the campground. For full hookups, a pool, laundry, and pet-friendly rules, private options like Eastern Long Island Kampground or the Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA are the better fit. Expect to bring a raised fire container for Connecticut sites, plan for limited cell coverage in wooded loops, and budget extra time for summer traffic on Route 27 through the Hamptons, which slows considerably on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings.
