Camping near Brockport, New York
Brockport sits along the Erie Canal in western New York, about 20 miles west of Rochester and roughly 10 miles south of Lake Ontario. The location gives RV travelers access to canal-side campgrounds, Great Lakes shoreline parks, and the farm country of Orleans, Genesee, and Monroe counties. Interstate 490 and the New York State Thruway (I-90) both feed the area, so rigs arriving from Buffalo, Syracuse, or the Southern Tier can reach a site within an hour.
Options range from a large state park to full-service private resorts. Hamlin Beach State Park anchors the Lake Ontario shoreline north of town with 264 tent and trailer sites, while Red Rock Ponds RV Resort in nearby Holley sits across from the canal with full-hookup sites and a swim beach. Hickory Ridge Golf and RV Resort is about two miles from Red Rock Ponds, and Adventure Bound Southwoods (also marketed as Southwoods RV Resort) in Byron rounds out the private options within easy driving distance.
The area suits families, canal cyclists, and Lake Ontario anglers, with Rochester attractions and Niagara Falls both reachable as day trips.
Things to do near Brockport
The Erie Canalway Trail passes directly through Brockport, offering flat, paved miles for cycling, walking, and jogging. Red Rock Ponds RV Resort places guests across the road from the canal, with paddle boats, rowboats, canoes, and kayaks available on site plus a sandy swim beach and ponds stocked for bass fishing.
Hamlin Beach State Park adds Lake Ontario swimming when lifeguards are on duty, a car-top boat launch, about six miles of hiking and biking trails, and the mile-long Yanty Creek Marsh self-guided nature trail. Salmon and trout fishing draws anglers to the lake and to the lower Genesee River.
Day trips include downtown Rochester museums and the Strong National Museum of Play, Letchworth State Park to the south, and Niagara Falls roughly 90 minutes west.

The camping season in this part of western New York runs roughly from mid-May through mid-October. Hamlin Beach State Park's campground typically operates from mid-May to mid-October, and Red Rock Ponds operates on a similar May-through-October window. Winter camping is not offered at these facilities, though Hamlin Beach itself remains open year-round for day use, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
Summer is the busiest stretch. The Lake Ontario beach and canal trail draw peak crowds from late June through Labor Day, and weekend sites at Hamlin Beach fill well in advance. July normally brings the warmest weather and the most thunderstorm activity, with lake-influenced storms possible.
Shoulder seasons trade heat for quieter loops. Spring is statistically the driest part of the year in the Rochester area, with birding along the lakeshore migration corridor picking up in April and May. Fall foliage peaks in early to mid-October, after which lake-effect clouds and cooler nights arrive quickly.

How to book a site
New York State Parks, including Hamlin Beach, use the ReserveAmerica system. Reservations can be made online or by phone at 1-800-456-2267, up to nine months in advance of arrival. Same-day reservations are accepted online until 3 p.m., and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. A camping party may occupy a site for a maximum of 14 continuous nights, after which campers must vacate for 48 hours.
Private resorts, including Red Rock Ponds RV Resort and Adventure Bound Southwoods, book directly through the campground website or through platforms such as Campspot. Cancellation windows vary by operator, so confirm terms at the time of booking.
For summer weekends and holiday stretches, book Hamlin Beach loops at the nine-month opening window and confirm private resort sites eight to twelve weeks out.
What to expect on the ground
Hamlin Beach State Park has 264 sites spread across loops A through F, with electric hookups at every site, hot showers, flush restrooms, and a dump station along Camp Road. There are no water or sewer hookups at individual sites; water spigots are shared. Emerald ash borer damage has thinned the tree canopy in some loops, leaving more open sky over sites than in past seasons. Pets are permitted only in loops A, B, and C, must stay leashed, and require current proof of rabies inoculation at check-in. Most sites accommodate RVs up to about 40 feet.
Private resorts in the area lean toward full-hookup, big-rig-friendly sites with 50-amp service, water, and sewer. Red Rock Ponds accepts vehicles up to 65 feet and has a recreation hall, camp store, and family programming. Many private parks in the area carry a large share of seasonal renters, so transient sites can be limited on peak weekends.
Cell service is generally good near Brockport, and grocery, fuel, and propane are easy to find in the village.

parks.ny.gov/parks/hamlinbeach/camping.aspxWhen is the best time to visit Brockport in an RV?
Late May through early October is prime season for RV camping in Brockport, with July and August delivering the warmest weather (highs around 80 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit) and Lake Ontario water finally swimmable. September is a local favorite, daytime temperatures sit in the comfortable mid-70s, humidity drops, the Erie Canal is still navigable, and weekend crowds thin out. Early October brings spectacular fall foliage along the Canalway Trail, with peak color usually between October 5 and October 20. Winters in Brockport are genuinely cold with lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario, so most campgrounds close from late October through April. Pro tip: book a mid-September Brockport RV trip and you'll catch warm days, cool sleeping weather, and empty campsites.
weather.gov/buf/I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving around Brockport?
You're going to do great, Brockport is one of the easiest places in New York to learn the ropes of RV driving. The village sits on flat terrain just off the New York State Thruway (I-90) and Route 31, with wide rural roads, light traffic, and no mountain passes or tight urban canyons to navigate. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, leveling, and the dump station, so you're never figuring it out alone. First-time renting an RV? Start with a Class C motorhome or small travel trailer, they handle a lot like a large van. Pro tip: practice a few right turns in the SUNY Brockport campus lots before heading to the highway.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/2024%20NYSDOT%20Annual%20Average%20Daily%20Traffic.htmlWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Brockport trip?
You are covered, every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance through your protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you have a flat tire on Route 31, a dead battery at Hamlin Beach State Park, or need a tow on the Thruway. The roadside team coordinates service providers across the Rochester and western New York region, and your host is also reachable through the RVezy app for quick questions about the rig itself. Brockport is close to multiple service centers in greater Rochester, so parts and repairs are rarely far away. Save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave the driveway and you are set, most issues get sorted within a few hours.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Brockport RV rental into Canada or other states?
Many hosts allow cross-border travel to Canada from Brockport, which makes sense given you're only about 75 miles from the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge and 95 miles from the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. Toronto sits roughly three hours away, making an RV road trip from Brockport to Niagara-on-the-Lake or even further into Ontario very doable. Travel into other US states is generally fine too, popular routes include heading east to the Adirondacks (5 hours) or south to the Finger Lakes wine country (1 hour). Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations. Message the host before booking to confirm Canada plans, and don't forget your passport at the border.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for in a Brockport RV rental?
Realistic fuel budgeting is one of the smartest things you can do before your Brockport RV trip. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs land closer to 6 to 10, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but usually drop it 25 to 35 percent versus unloaded. Gas in the Rochester area generally runs slightly above the national average, with most stations on Route 31 and West Avenue in Brockport offering competitive pricing. For a typical 3-night trip with 200 miles of driving, budget roughly $80 to $140 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Sheetz or Speedway on Route 31 just outside the village, prices there often beat the closer-in stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Brockport?
For peak summer weekends (late June through Labor Day), book your campground 4 to 6 months ahead, especially for waterfront sites at Hamlin Beach or Lakeside Beach State Park. New York State Parks use the ReserveAmerica system and release sites nine months in advance to the day, so setting a calendar reminder pays off. Private parks like Big Guys Campground and Southwoods RV Resort also fill quickly for July 4th and SUNY Brockport graduation weekends. Midweek stays and shoulder-season trips (May, September, early October) often have availability just a week or two out. Pro tip: pair an early state-park reservation with a flexible RVezy rental that has free cancellation grace, and you've locked in a great trip with zero stress.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What are the driving conditions like around Brockport?
Driving around Brockport is genuinely RV-friendly, the terrain is flat, the major roads (Route 31, Route 19, and the New York State Thruway/I-90) are well-maintained, and traffic outside of Rochester rush hour is light. The biggest local consideration is weather: lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario can hit hard from November through March, which is why most rentals operate May through October. Summer brings occasional thunderstorms, usually quick-moving, and watch for low canal-bridge clearances on some village side streets (stick to Main Street and Route 31 with anything over 10 feet tall). Deer are common at dawn and dusk on rural roads. Pro tip: download NY 511 for live road conditions before any longer drive.
511ny.org/What amenities do campgrounds near Brockport offer?
You'll find a great mix of campground amenities within 30 minutes of Brockport. State parks like Hamlin Beach and Lakeside Beach offer electric hookups (no water or sewer at most sites), hot showers, flush toilets, dump stations, and lake swimming. Private parks like Big Guys Campground deliver full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, a pool, and a camp store. Dump stations are available at all major state parks and most private parks for a small fee if you're a non-guest. Potable water fill stations are standard at both. Pro tip: if you're boondocking or staying somewhere without sewer, the dump station at Hamlin Beach State Park is open to the public during operating season for around $10.
parks.ny.gov/parks/lakesidebeach/details.aspxWhat features and amenities come with a typical Brockport RV rental?
Most motorhome rentals in Brockport come fully equipped and ready to camp: a real bed (queen or king in most Class C and travel trailer listings), a kitchen with stove/oven/fridge/microwave, a bathroom with toilet and shower, roof air conditioning, a furnace for cool Lake Ontario nights, and seatbelts for everyone riding while underway. Many include a TV, some offer Wi-Fi hotspots, and most Class C rigs have a generator for off-grid power. Campervan rental in Brockport tends to be more minimalist but easier to drive. Each listing on RVezy spells out exactly what's included plus what the host provides as bedding, cookware, and outdoor gear. Pro tip: confirm generator hours and propane refill expectations during your pre-trip walkthrough.
energy.gov/energysaver/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Brockport RV rental?

Common options include bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), camp chairs and outdoor mats, generators (sometimes included, sometimes $25 to $50 per day), portable grills, bike racks (handy for the Erie Canalway Trail), and propane refills. Pickup and dropoff are usually at the host's location with a 30-minute orientation, but delivery to nearby campgrounds is widely available for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by host, with most including 100 to 150 free miles per day. Every add-on price is shown upfront before you book, so there are no surprises at pickup. Pro tip: bundle bedding and a kitchen kit to skip the pre-trip Target run.
nps.gov/erie/planyourvisit/things2do.htmHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Brockport RV rental?
Payment for your RV rental in Brockport, NY is handled entirely through RVezy with a major credit or debit card, no cash changes hands with the host, which keeps things simple and secure. You pay the rental cost plus your chosen protection plan and any add-ons at booking, and the refundable security deposit is held separately on your card shortly before pickup. As long as the RV comes back in the same condition with the tanks handled per the host's instructions, the deposit is released after your trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos of the interior and exterior at pickup and dropoff, it is the easiest way to protect your deposit and end your family RV trip in Brockport on a high note.
