Campgrounds and RV parks near Churchville, NY

Letchworth State Park anchors most itineraries. The 14,427-acre park stretches along a 17-mile section of the Genesee River, where the gorge reaches as deep as 600 feet and three major waterfalls, Upper Falls, Middle Falls, and Lower Falls, drop through forested cliffs. Whitewater rafting outfitters, kayaking, hot-air ballooning, and horseback riding operate in and around the park during the warm months. Closer to Churchville, families use the Erie Canal Heritage Trail for biking and walking, and Hamlin Beach State Park on Lake Ontario adds swimming and shoreline access. Red Rock Ponds sits near the Erie Canal corridor, giving guests easy access to the towpath trail. Rochester itself is a short drive for the Strong National Museum of Play, Seabreeze Amusement Park, and the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Darien Lake amusement park and Niagara Falls are both reachable as day trips.

Nearly all private campgrounds in the Churchville area operate a May through October season. Adventure Bound Southwoods in Byron is open May through October, and Letchworth's main campground loops (100 through 800) run from mid-May through mid-October. Spring in the Rochester area comes slowly, with last frosts usually occurring by late April near Lake Ontario and as late as mid-May south of the Thruway. The spring months are actually the driest months statistically, due in part to the stabilizing effect of the Great Lakes, though soils remain wet. Sunshine increases markedly in May. Summer is the peak booking window and the best time for swimming and lake activities, with warm, mostly sunny days. Fall brings cool nights, foliage, and thinner crowds through mid-October, when most state park loops close. Winter effectively closes recreational RV camping in the region. Winters are generally cold, cloudy, and snowy, but changeable, with frequent thaws and rain mixed in. Snow covers the ground more often than not from late December into early March, and lake-effect snow bands off Lake Ontario can produce locally heavy totals.

Terrain around Churchville is gently rolling farmland transitioning to wooded gorges south toward Letchworth. Private RV resorts in the area typically offer full hookups, 30- and 50-amp service, pools, and family programming. Adventure Bound Southwoods in Byron, for example, offers over 500 sites across multiple site types, including full-hookup pull-throughs and back-ins, plus modern bathhouses, laundry, and a dump station. Sites can accommodate rigs up to 50 feet. State park sites tend to be more rustic. Letchworth has 270 electric sites across loops 100 through 800, all with electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings, but water and sewer are not provided at the site. Cell coverage is inconsistent inside Letchworth, particularly in the south end of the park. Bring drinking water, buy firewood locally to avoid moving invasive pests, and pack layers for cool evenings even in summer.
