Camping near Conesus Lake
Conesus Lake is the westernmost of New York's Finger Lakes, sitting in Livingston County. Conesus Lake Campground is located just 30 miles south of Rochester, and the surrounding hills, farmland, and lakeshore make the area a practical base for RV travelers exploring the western Finger Lakes region.
RV renters have several private options close to the water, including Conesus Lake Campground, Tamarack Campgrounds, Holiday Hill Campground, The Ridge Campsite, and The Ridge Campground. Sites at Conesus Lake Campground typically offer electric, water, sewer, and cable hook-ups, along with free WiFi, a store, game room, laundry, fishing and boating in the lake, and a heated indoor swimming pool.
The lake itself is the main draw for families, but the location also puts campers within easy reach of Letchworth State Park, Stony Brook State Park, and the vineyards of the Finger Lakes wine trail.
Things to do around Conesus Lake
Water activities dominate summer plans on Conesus Lake. The lake supports swimming, tubing, water skiing, kayaking, and largemouth bass fishing, and public boat launches ring the shoreline. Boat, kayak, paddleboard, and rowboat rentals are available on site at Conesus Lake Campground, which also has a boat dock for easy water access.
Off the water, campers head to Letchworth State Park. Known as the Grand Canyon of the East, the park sits along the Genesee River gorge with cliffs as high as 600 feet, three major waterfalls, and 66 miles of hiking trails. The Harvey Pool is available from late June to Labor Day. Stony Brook State Park, Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area, and area wineries around Geneseo round out day-trip options.

The private camping season around Conesus Lake runs roughly mid-May through mid-October. Conesus Lake Campground is open May 15 to October 15, and other lakeside parks follow a similar window driven by freezing winters and shoulder-season shutdowns.
July and August are peak. In Conesus, July is the warmest month, with temperatures averaging a high of 78.8 Fahrenheit (26 Celsius) and a low of 59.5 Fahrenheit (15.3 Celsius), and weekends fill quickly with families targeting lake days. Late June through Labor Day also aligns with when Letchworth's Harvey Pool is open and most park programming runs.
Spring is cool and wet, and lake temperatures stay chilly into June. Fall brings foliage color across the Genesee Valley through September and October, with cooler nights and fewer crowds. Snowfall occurs from January through May and October through December, with roughly 77 snowfall days and about 24 inches of accumulation per year, so winter RV camping is impractical at most local parks.

How to book campgrounds near Conesus Lake
Private lakeside campgrounds such as Conesus Lake Campground, Tamarack Campgrounds, Holiday Hill Campground, The Ridge Campsite, and The Ridge Campground take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends, holiday weekends, and any site with a lake view or full hookups tend to sell out weeks or months ahead, so book early for July and August.
For nearby state parks, New York uses a single reservation system. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, and sites become available at the 9-month window at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM Saturday and Sunday from March 15 through Labor Day, then 9AM daily the rest of the year. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival for campsites, and reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267. There is a 2 night minimum stay at Letchworth campsites.
What to expect at Conesus Lake campgrounds
Most private campgrounds close to Conesus Lake are family-oriented parks with a mix of seasonal and transient RV sites. Conesus Lake Campground is a family owned and operated park in the Finger Lakes region with over 150 campsites and onsite rental units, a full service store and activity centers, plus boat, golf cart, and kayak rentals. Campsites include tent and RV sites equipped with full hookups (water, sewer, and electric) as well as picnic tables and fire rings.
Cell coverage is generally usable along the lake but drops in the Genesee gorge. Cell service is spotty in Letchworth State Park, and service in the south end is very limited. Bring firewood from local sources to avoid transporting pests, plan for lake-cool mornings even in July, and pack rain gear given how often afternoon thunderstorms roll through in summer.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Conesus Lake, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Conesus Lake, NY?
RV rental in Conesus Lake is one of the most affordable ways to enjoy the Finger Lakes. Travel trailers typically start around $85 to $140 per night, Class C motorhomes run $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs land between $225 and $375 nightly. Summer weekends (June through August) book up fast and command peak rates, so shifting your trip to early June or mid-September can knock 20 to 30 percent off the price. For a cheap RV rental in Conesus Lake, filter by travel trailers and look for hosts offering free local delivery. Pro tip: weeknight stays at Conesus Lake Campground often pair with lower rental rates, stretching your budget further.
visitlivco.com/What license do I need to rent an RV in Conesus Lake?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in New York, even for the biggest Class A motorhomes on the platform. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement is required. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy handles ID verification securely through the booking process, so there's nothing to mail or fax. Visiting from outside the US? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit (IDP), which most national auto associations issue for under $25. With paperwork sorted in minutes, you'll be free to focus on the fun part: planning your Conesus Lake RV trip through Livingston County's vineyards and waterfalls.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-driver-licenseIs RV rental insurance included for trips around Conesus Lake?
Yes, every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull out of the driveway with real peace of mind for your RV rental in Conesus Lake. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout (hosts don't set it for you). Coverage tiers vary, so review them carefully if you're planning longer drives through the hilly Finger Lakes terrain toward Letchworth State Park or the Seneca Lake wine trail. That way your RV camping Conesus Lake adventure stays stress-free from pickup to drop-off.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my Conesus Lake RV booking?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy platform-wide, not individual hosts. There's a grace period after booking during which you can cancel and receive a full refund. After that window, refund eligibility depends on how close you are to your trip start date. You won't see different policies on different listings because the policy is standardized across RVezy. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or offers travel credit. Pro tip: book early to lock in dates for popular weekends like the Conesus Lake Ring of Fire on July 3rd, knowing the grace period has you covered if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Conesus Lake?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts in the area welcome dogs and cats. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter when searching for a pet-friendly RV rental in Conesus Lake, and you'll see only listings ready for furry passengers. Conesus Lake Campground allows leashed pets, and nearby Letchworth State Park has dog-friendly trails like the Gorge Trail and shoreline paths perfect for sniff-filled mornings. Vidler Park in Lakeville is a great quick leg-stretcher right at the north end of the lake. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and mention your dog's size. Most owners appreciate the heads-up and will share their favorite local pet spots too.
parks.ny.gov/parks/letchworthCan the RV be delivered to my campsite at Conesus Lake?
Yes, RV delivery in Conesus Lake is one of the most popular options, especially for first-time renters who'd rather skip towing or driving a big rig. Many hosts will deliver to campgrounds around the lake, set up your hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), level the RV, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees usually run a few dollars per mile from the host's location, with some offering flat rates within Livingston County. Filter listings by Delivery to see who offers it. Pro tip: book delivery for Friday afternoon so you arrive to a fully set-up campsite with time to catch sunset over the lake.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Conesus%20Lake%2C%20New%20YorkHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Conesus Lake?
You've got plenty of road to roam. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for an RV road trip from Conesus Lake. From the lake you're 35 miles south of Rochester, 70 miles to Niagara Falls, 90 miles to Watkins Glen State Park, 145 miles to Cooperstown, and about 220 miles to the Adirondacks. Additional miles typically cost $0.30 to $0.45 each if you go over. Pro tip: if you're planning the full Finger Lakes wine loop (Keuka, Seneca, and Cayuga lakes), filter for unlimited-mileage listings up front. It usually pays for itself within two days of touring.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/finger-lakes/Where are the best campgrounds near Conesus Lake?
You've got a great mix of lakeside and state-park options within 30 minutes for RV camping Conesus Lake. Letchworth State Park, about 15 miles south near Mount Morris, offers hundreds of campsites with electric hookups and the famous 'Grand Canyon of the East' gorge views. Stony Brook State Park near Dansville offers shaded sites and swimming creeks. Hamlin Beach State Park on Lake Ontario adds a beach option about an hour north. Several private RV parks operate around the lake with full hookups and lakeside access. Pro tip: New York State Park reservations open nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica, so book Letchworth as early as possible for July and August dates.
parks.ny.gov/parks/letchworth/camping.aspxWhen is the best time to visit Conesus Lake in an RV?
Late May through mid-October is prime season, with each stretch offering something different. June brings 70 to 80°F days and the lake warming up for swimming. July and August are peak summer (highs 80 to 85°F), perfect for water skiing and the famous July 3rd Ring of Fire celebration that lights up the entire shoreline with red flares. September is the local insider's secret: warm days in the mid-70s, cool sleeping weather, fewer crowds, and the start of grape harvest at nearby wineries. Early October brings spectacular Finger Lakes foliage. Pro tip: book mid-September for the sweet spot of great weather, lower rates, and easier campground availability.
weather.gov/buf/I've never rented an RV before. How does it work?
You're in good company because first time renting an RV is one of the most common situations on the platform. At pickup, your host gives a full walkthrough of every system: water pump, propane, slide-outs, awning, generator, dumping the tanks, and how to hook up at a campground. They'll answer questions and often share a printed cheat sheet. You can also message your host before booking with any concerns, and RVezy customer support is available to help. Pro tip: ask your host for a recommended route from their pickup location to your Conesus Lake campground. The drive down Route 20A from Lakeville is gentle and scenic, making it an ideal first cruise behind the wheel.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing needs. If something acts up at your campsite (say the fridge stops cooling on a hot July day near Conesus Lake) message your host directly through the app, and RVezy support is also a tap away. The closest full-service RV repair shops are in the Rochester and Henrietta area, about 35 minutes north. Pro tip: snap photos of every system during your pickup walkthrough so you have a quick reference if you need to troubleshoot something simple like resetting the GFCI outlet or relighting the water heater.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips from Conesus Lake?
Conesus Lake's central Finger Lakes location makes it a launching pad for incredible RV road trips. Head about 15 miles south to Letchworth State Park for waterfalls and the gorge. Drive roughly 45 miles east to Watkins Glen for the famous gorge trail and Seneca Lake wineries. Niagara Falls is about 70 miles west, an easy day trip. Cross-border travel into Canada is possible with host approval and may require additional documentation, so confirm before booking. Travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals. The Adirondacks sit about 4 hours northeast for a longer adventure. Pro tip: the Seneca Lake wine trail loop pairs perfectly with a two-night stop at Watkins Glen State Park's campground.
parks.ny.gov/parks/watkinsglenWhat kind of gas mileage should I expect and how do I budget for fuel?
Realistic expectations help your budget go further. Campervans and Class B rigs get 16 to 20 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg combined), and Class A motorhomes run 6 to 10 mpg. Gas prices in the Conesus and Geneseo area generally track close to the New York state average, with stations in Lakeville and Livonia being your most convenient fill-ups. For a typical 4-day Conesus Lake RV trip with 300 miles of driving, budget $90 to $180 for fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Livingston County before heading toward New York City or the Adirondacks, where prices climb noticeably.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Conesus Lake?
For peak summer weekends (July 4th, Ring of Fire, Labor Day), book Conesus Lake Campground and Letchworth State Park three to six months out, since lakeside sites fill quickly. New York State Parks use ReserveAmerica and open reservations nine months in advance, so set a calendar reminder if you want a prime Letchworth spot. Weeknights and shoulder-season trips (May, September, October) are much easier and often bookable a couple weeks out. Pro tip: if Conesus Lake Campground is full, check Hamlin Beach State Park on Lake Ontario or Stony Brook State Park near Dansville. Both are within a 45-minute drive and frequently have availability when the lakefront spots don't.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like around Conesus Lake?
Driving around Conesus Lake is very RV-friendly. Route 20A and East Lake Road are well-maintained two-lane roads with gentle grades, and I-390 connects you quickly to Rochester or south to Dansville without any low-clearance bridges. The terrain is rolling hills, not mountain switchbacks, so even bigger rigs handle it comfortably. Winter (December through March) brings lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario, so most RV travel pauses then. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads, and Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on quieter routes near Conesus and Springwater. Pro tip: the East Lake Road shoreline is narrow with cottages, so use West Lake Road or Route 256 when moving a longer RV through the area.
dot.ny.gov/portal/page/portal/trafficWhat hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds around Conesus Lake?
You'll find well-equipped sites throughout the area. Conesus Lake Campground offers full hookups with 30 and 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable at most sites, plus a dump station, laundry, free WiFi, and a heated indoor pool. Letchworth State Park has electric and water at many sites with centralized dump stations and potable water fills. Most regional campgrounds have flush toilets and hot showers. For free dump stations between trips, the Flying J in Henrietta (about 30 minutes north) is a reliable stop. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before leaving the campground each morning so you're not hunting for fills while exploring Letchworth's overlooks or driving the wine trails.
parks.ny.gov/parks/letchworth/camping.aspxWhat features and amenities come with the RVs?
Most motorhome rentals in Conesus Lake come fully equipped for comfortable lakeside living: a queen or king bed, additional sleeping for 4 to 8 people, a kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, and sink, a wet bath or full bathroom with shower, air conditioning, propane furnace, and dining area. Many include a TV, outdoor awning, and outdoor speakers, perfect for relaxing after a day on Conesus Lake. Seatbelt counts vary by RV, so check the listing if you're traveling with a bigger family. Generators are common in Class C and Class A rigs. Pro tip: filter by 'Sleeps 6' or higher and look for listings with outdoor kitchens, which make lakefront dinners at the campground especially fun.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/finger-lakes/What add-ons and extras can I get with my Conesus Lake RV rental?
Hosts offer all kinds of extras to make your trip easier. Common add-ons include camping chairs, outdoor grills, kayaks or paddleboards (huge wins for Conesus Lake), bedding and linen packages, generators, bike racks, propane fills, and even fishing gear. Prices typically range from $10 to $50 per item for the trip. Pickup is usually at the host's home, but many offer delivery to Conesus Lake Campground or nearby state parks. Most listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles billed at around $0.35 each. Pro tip: add a kayak or two as an upgrade. Launching from the Conesus Lake Campground shoreline at sunrise is one of the great Finger Lakes experiences.
visitlivco.com/How do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking using a credit card, and your payment is processed by the platform, not the host directly. A refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) is held separately from your booking payment before pickup and released after drop-off, assuming there's no damage or excessive mileage. Doing a thorough walkthrough with photos at both pickup and return is the easiest way to avoid disputes. Pro tip: take a 60-second video of the RV's exterior, interior, and any pre-existing scratches when you take possession. It's the simplest way to protect your full deposit after your Conesus Lake adventure.
