Campgrounds near East Hampton North
East Hampton North sits on the South Fork of Long Island, at the edge of the Hamptons and about a half-hour drive west of Montauk. RV travelers use it as a base for Atlantic beaches, protected bay shoreline, and the North Fork wine region across Peconic Bay. The closest developed campground with oceanfront sites is Hither Hills State Park, which sits on the Atlantic Ocean between Amagansett and Montauk on Long Island's South Fork and stretches along a 2-mile sandy beach.
Beyond Hither Hills, options thin out on the South Fork itself. Most RV travelers add a leg across to the North Fork, where Eastern Long Island Kampground in Greenport is a family oriented campground with swimming pool, store, laundry, bike rentals, picnic tables, hook-ups, and planned activities. Others cross Long Island Sound by ferry from Orient Point to Connecticut and stay in the Niantic area.
On the Connecticut side, Rocky Neck State Park, Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA and Aces High RV Park cluster within a short drive of each other. That combination gives renters a mix of state-park beach camping, a full-service private KOA, and a big-rig RV resort, all reachable from East Hampton North via the Cross Sound Ferry.
Things to do near East Hampton North
Beach time anchors most trips. Hither Hills offers direct ocean access for swimming (Memorial Day through Labor Day), surfing, and fishing, and the walking dunes of Napeague Harbor are located on the eastern boundary of the park, which also has woodlands filled with Russian olive, oak, shad and pine trees.
Families branch out from camp for lighthouse visits, sport fishing charters out of Montauk, and cycling on quieter back roads. The North Fork is renowned for its wineries, farm-to-table restaurants, and scenic countryside, which pairs well with a stop at Eastern Long Island Kampground.
Across the Sound, Rocky Neck's beach is a 0.5 mile crescent of soft, white sand and decidedly stone-free, and because Long Island and Fishers Island act as a natural breakwater to protect the entire coastline of Connecticut, the waves are generally tame. Nearby, the Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA and Aces High RV Park put campers within a short drive of Niantic Bay, the boardwalk and state-park beaches.

The camping window on the South Fork is short. Camping is seasonal in New York and Hither Hills is closed in winter, generally opening in spring and closing in the fall, with peak season running from mid-June to mid-September. Eastern Long Island Kampground in Greenport runs from May 1 to November 1, matching the same warm-weather pattern.
Connecticut state park camping runs a similar calendar. Rocky Neck opens Friday, May 15 and closes Friday, September 25 at noon for the 2026 season, and its 160 wooded and open grassy sites are divided into five loops: the Heron, Egret, Crane, Osprey, and Seagull.
For shoulder-season or off-season trips, Aces High RV Park is the outlier. It is open year-round in East Lyme, a rare and highly prized feature for RVers in Connecticut, making it a practical choice for late-fall, winter or early-spring stays when state park campgrounds and most Long Island private parks are closed. Book beach-adjacent sites well ahead for July and August, and expect cool nights on either side of peak season.
Booking and how to reserve near East Hampton North
Hither Hills is the hardest reservation in the region. Reservations can be made for today and can be made up to 9 months in advance, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival, with bookings made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267. Peak season runs mid-June through mid-September with 7-night reservation minimums only, and off-peak allows 2-night minimums. During Peak Season only one 7-night reservation is allowed per name, per address, per email, or per phone number.
Rocky Neck uses the Connecticut state system through ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance.
The Niantic KOA and Aces High RV Park take direct bookings through their own websites and phones. Eastern Long Island Kampground also books directly for its Greenport location.
What to expect near East Hampton North
Hither Hills is a state-park campground, not a full-hookup resort. All sites are back-in style with equipment length limits of 20 to 30 feet depending on site, four comfort stations provide hot showers and flush toilets, and additional facilities include a dump station, camp store, playground, basketball and volleyball courts, and access to a 40-acre freshwater lake. Pets are not permitted.
Rocky Neck is similar in feel. Trailer/RV hookups are not available at this campground, and pets are strictly prohibited in the Rocky Neck Campground.
For full hookups, the private parks fill that gap. Aces High RV Park is located on 98 acres of wooded land, situated among three ponds, one of which is stocked with large trout, and sites offer electric, water, sewer, cable TV, premium wifi and 30/50 amp hookups. The Niantic KOA takes big rigs with pull-thru sites and full utilities. Bring layers, insect repellent, and a beach pass or the vehicle fee ready.
