Camping near East Marion, New York
East Marion sits on the North Fork of Long Island, a narrow peninsula between Long Island Sound and Peconic Bay in Suffolk County. The area is defined by farmland, vineyards, saltwater beaches, and easy access to Greenport village and the Orient Point ferry to New London, Connecticut. RV travelers use East Marion as a base for both North Fork exploration and cross-Sound trips into Connecticut's shoreline parks.
Camping options within the immediate area are limited. Eastern Long Island Kampground in nearby Greenport is the closest full-service RV park, offering hookups and family amenities within a short drive of East Marion. Across Long Island Sound, the Connecticut shoreline adds several state-park campgrounds and private RV resorts reachable by ferry from Orient Point or by driving around through New York City.
Common nearby options include Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA, Rocky Neck State Park, Hammonasset Beach State Park, and Aces High RV Park. Together these give RV renters a mix of hookup resorts and rustic beach camping within roughly a day's reach of East Marion.
Things to do near East Marion
The North Fork is best known for its vineyards, farm stands, and waterfront villages. Greenport offers a working harbor, the Railroad Museum of Long Island, a restored carousel, and ferry service to Shelter Island. On the Connecticut side, Rocky Neck State Park features a half-mile crescent beach on Long Island Sound with hiking trails to Baker's Cave and Tony's Nose, plus saltwater fishing off the jetty year-round. Hammonasset Beach State Park offers over two miles of sandy beach, the Meigs Point Nature Center, and paved multi-use trails for cycling.
Inland, families visit Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, and the outlets in Clinton. Anglers target striped bass, bluefish, blackfish, and flounder from spring through fall.

The camping season on the North Fork and along the Connecticut shoreline runs primarily from May through October. Rocky Neck State Park's campground opens in May and typically closes in early to mid September, and Hammonasset Beach State Park runs a longer late-May through mid-October season. Aces High RV Park in East Lyme is one of the few full-hookup options that stays open year-round, and Eastern Long Island Kampground operates through the warmer months.
Summer is peak season. July and August bring warm, humid weather, crowded beaches, and heavy demand for campsites, especially on weekends and around the July 4 and Labor Day holidays. Reservations for state park sites often need to be locked in months ahead.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. May and June bring wildflowers and migrating birds through the salt marshes, while September and October pair mild days with fewer crowds, harvest events at North Fork wineries, and productive saltwater fishing before most campgrounds close.
How to book campgrounds near East Marion
Connecticut state park campgrounds, including Rocky Neck and Hammonasset Beach, are booked through the Reserve America system for Connecticut State Parks. Reservations can be made up to eleven months in advance and must be booked at least one day before arrival. Hammonasset and Rocky Neck have a 25-day change or cancellation freeze on far-out bookings, and both parks enforce a 21-day maximum stay followed by a mandatory five-day break.
Private parks use their own systems. Eastern Long Island Kampground, the Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA, and Aces High RV Park take reservations directly by phone or through their websites. Holiday weekends and peak summer sell out first, so booking two to six months out is common.
Rocky Neck offers no RV hookups; Hammonasset has a subset of sites with electric and water but no sewer. Renters needing full hookups should target Eastern Long Island Kampground, the Niantic KOA, or Aces High.
What to expect on the ground
The two Connecticut state parks are rustic by RV standards. Rocky Neck offers 160 wooded and open sites with picnic tables, fire rings, restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station, but no RV hookups, and pets are not permitted in the campground. Hammonasset has over 550 grassy sites with restrooms, showers, a camp store, and dump stations; a portion of sites offer electric and water, and sites do not have built-in fire rings, so campers bring a raised firepit or rent one from the camp store.
Private parks are more RV-focused. Eastern Long Island Kampground has sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups, a pool, laundry, and a camp store. The Niantic KOA offers big-rig pull-throughs, a heated pool, and a seasonal shuttle to nearby attractions. Aces High RV Park sits on wooded acreage with three ponds, roughly 90 full-hookup sites, cable, and Wi-Fi.
