Campgrounds and RV parks near Gates-North Gates, NY

Gates-North Gates sits on the western edge of Rochester in Monroe County, putting RV travelers within an hour of Lake Ontario beaches, the Erie Canal, and the western Finger Lakes. The area is flat to gently rolling farmland and suburbs, with the Genesee River corridor and Letchworth State Park to the south, and Niagara Falls about ninety minutes west. Most campgrounds sit in the surrounding towns of Le Roy, Byron, and Hamlin rather than in Gates itself. Options range from a state park on Lake Ontario to family-run private resorts with pools, cabins, and full hookups. Timberline Lake Park Camping and The Ridge NY are both in Le Roy, while Adventure Bound Southwoods and Southwoods RV Resort are in Byron, roughly halfway between Rochester and Buffalo. For a lakefront stay, Hamlin Beach State Park sits on the south shore of Lake Ontario about thirty minutes north of Gates. It draws steady summer traffic for its swimming beach, birding trails, and large campground with more than 250 sites.

State park sites at Hamlin Beach are booked through ReserveAmerica. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, and sites become available at the 9-month window at 8 AM Monday through Friday and 9 AM Saturday and Sunday from March 15 through Labor Day. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 PM on day of arrival, and there is a limit of two vehicles per campsite. Private campgrounds book directly. Timberline Lake Park Camping, The Ridge NY, Adventure Bound Southwoods, and Southwoods RV Resort all take reservations online through their own websites or by phone, and summer weekends fill early. Booking eight to twelve weeks ahead is a safe target for July and August. At Hamlin, pets are only allowed in Loops A, B, and C, must be on a leash no longer than six feet with proof of current rabies vaccination, and are not allowed in restrooms, buildings, or on the beach.
