Campgrounds and RV parks near Geneva, NY

Water activities center on Seneca and Cayuga lakes. Sampson State Park offers a sandy beach with guarded swimming, playgrounds, and a scenic lake trail, plus a marina with a boat launch. Seneca Lake is famous for its lake trout fishing, with an annual National Lake Trout Derby held on Memorial Day weekend, and the lake also produces salmon and bass. Off the water, the Seneca and Cayuga Lake wine trails are the region's biggest draw, with dozens of wineries within a short drive. Day trips include Watkins Glen State Park's gorge trail at the south end of Seneca Lake, Taughannock Falls, the Women's Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, and the Waterloo Premium Outlets.

The main camping window runs from mid-May through mid-October. Sampson State Park's 2026 season runs May 15 through October 12, and private parks in the area follow a similar mid-April to mid-October schedule. Winter camping is generally not available at the local RV parks. Summer, June through August, is peak season. Weekends at Sampson State Park book out well in advance, and lakefront loops fill first. Weekday arrivals and shoulder-season stays in late May, early June, and September usually offer better site selection. Certain fall weeks at Sampson are also blocked out for special events, including a tin can rally in mid-September that closes Loops 3 and 4, and an annual dog show that closes all campsites in late September into early October. Fall brings cooler nights, wine-country harvest activity, and foliage color across the Finger Lakes. Spring is wetter and can be cold at night, but wineries and state parks are open and less crowded than in summer.

Sampson State Park has 243 electric sites in Loops 1-5 with both 30 and 20 amp service, a mixture of open and shaded sites, and a comfort station in each loop. Distances between electric boxes and site pads can be as much as 50 feet, so a heavy extension cord is recommended. Each site has a gravel pad, fire ring, and one picnic table. Loop 5 is closest to the lake, with prime sites that have lake views. A dump station, camp store, restaurant, and modern comfort stations are available on site. Boats and boat trailers are not permitted on the campsite and can be left in the Park Office Parking lot or lower lot, or placed in a rented marina slip. Private parks in the area generally offer full hookups with 20/30/50-amp service, pull-through sites, pools, and organized weekend activities. Cell service is reliable across the Geneva area. A maximum of two pets are allowed in campsites and day use areas, must be crated or on a leash not more than 6 feet in length, and proof of rabies inoculation must be produced if requested.
