Campgrounds near Jordan, New York
Jordan is a small village in Onondaga County, roughly 20 miles west of Syracuse, sitting near the historic Erie Canal corridor and within easy reach of the Finger Lakes and Lake Ontario. RV travelers use it as a low-traffic base for exploring central New York without the congestion of the city, with quick access to Interstate 90 via the New York State Thruway.
The camping options nearby lean private and family-run rather than state park. Sunset Park Campground Inc. sits south in Memphis, Riverforest Park Campground and Marina is a short drive west in Weedsport on the Seneca River, and Hejamada Campground and RV Park is farther west in Port Byron. Duck Lake Campgrounds in the Town of Conquest offers lakeside sites between Rochester and Syracuse. Weedsport Speedway, a dirt oval nearby, also hosts overnight camping tied to race weekends.
Most private parks in the area open in mid-spring and close in mid-October, so trip planning tracks closely with the central New York camping season. Sites range from full-hookup RV pads to shaded tent spots and rustic cabins, depending on the property.
Things to do near Jordan
The Old Erie Canal Trail runs directly through the Village of Jordan, passing the remains of the Jordan Aqueduct and connects into the larger Empire State Trail for biking, walking, and paddling. The trail sections through Onondaga and Cayuga counties are relatively flat and family-friendly.
On the water, the Seneca River and adjoining canal system are accessible from Riverforest Park Campground and Marina, which has a marina with slips and boat access. Duck Lake Campgrounds provides the only public boat launch on Duck Lake, popular for largemouth bass and tiger muskie fishing, canoes, and small motorized boats.
For day trips, Syracuse offers the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, the Erie Canal Museum, and Onondaga Lake Park. Weedsport Speedway hosts dirt-track racing during the summer season, and Auburn's Seward House Museum is about 25 miles away.

Central New York has a humid continental climate with a wide temperature swing between seasons. Summers are warm and often humid, while winters are cold, snowy, and mostly cloudy, with lake-effect snow common off Lake Ontario. Nearly all private campgrounds in the Jordan area operate on a mid-May through mid-October window, with Duck Lake Campgrounds specifically open May 15 to October 15.
July is the warmest month and the peak camping stretch, with average highs around the upper 70s Fahrenheit. Reservations for holiday weekends, especially Independence Day and Labor Day, should be locked in well ahead of time because seasonal sites take up much of the inventory at Riverforest Park Campground and Marina and similar family parks.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler, with fall being the wettest season and the best window for foliage color along the canal trail. Foliage typically peaks in mid-October in central New York, which lines up with the last operating weekends at most private parks in the area.

How to book a campsite
Private campgrounds near Jordan take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Riverforest Park Campground and Marina lists availability through Campspot as well as its own site, while Sunset Park Campground Inc., Duck Lake Campgrounds, and Hejamada Campground and RV Park book direct. Campers heading to Weedsport Speedway race weekends should arrange overnight parking through the track itself.
If a state park or DEC campground stay is part of the trip, New York State Parks and DEC campgrounds all use the ReserveAmerica system. Reservations can be made up to nine months in advance, and popular Finger Lakes and lakeshore campgrounds fill quickly the moment that window opens.
Weekend and holiday nights at private parks often carry two-night minimums, so plan arrival and departure days before calling.
What to expect
Expect a mix of seasonal and transient sites at most private parks in the area. Riverforest Park Campground and Marina has around 360 sites with a swimming pool, playground, game room, and on-site restaurant and bar, and sits about a mile north of Thruway Exit 40, making arrivals with a big rig straightforward.
Duck Lake Campgrounds is smaller and quieter, with full hookups at 20, 30, and 50 amps and shaded tent sites on the lake. Cell service is generally reliable near the Thruway corridor and Syracuse but can thin out on rural roads.
Bring bug spray for the summer months and layers for cool evenings even in July. Firewood, ice, and basic supplies are typically available on site at the larger parks. Pet policies vary, so confirm leash rules and any breed restrictions when booking.
