Campgrounds and RV parks near Lake Luzerne, NY

Water is the main draw. The Hudson River corridor near town is popular for tubing, whitewater rafting, and paddling, and Lake Luzerne itself has public beaches for swimming and kayaking. Lake George, ten miles east, adds boat rentals, cruises, and larger sandy beaches. On land, the Lake George Wild Forest offers a network of trails ranging from short family walks to full-day summit hikes. The Bear Slides on Buttermilk Brook is a popular short out-and-back to a natural rock waterslide, suitable for kids when the rocks are dry. Families also use Lake Luzerne as a base for the Painted Pony Rodeo, the Great Escape theme park in Queensbury, and the Saratoga Race Course during the summer meet. Horseback riding, mountain biking, and fishing round out the typical week.

The RV season runs roughly from mid-May through mid-October. Private parks such as Stony Creek Family Campground typically open in May and close by late October, while state-run sites in the region operate on a similar warm-weather schedule. July and August are peak, with warm days, warm river water, and full events calendars in Lake George and Saratoga. Holiday weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day book out earliest and often carry multi-night minimums. Late spring brings the highest river flows, which is prime for rafting the Hudson Gorge but cold for swimming. Blackflies peak from mid-May into June and ticks are active from April through September, so campers should plan repellent and daily tick checks. Fall foliage typically peaks from late September into mid-October in the southeastern Adirondacks. Winter camping is limited: most private parks close, and only backcountry sites in the Wild Forest stay open, with deep snow and sub-freezing nights common from December through February.

Private parks in the area lean family-oriented. Expect pools, playgrounds, camp stores, laundry, and clean bathhouses, with a mix of shaded gravel pads and open pull-throughs. Lake George / Saratoga KOA Journey and Rustic Barn Campground accept larger rigs and offer full hookups on many sites. Public sites are more rustic. Luzerne Campground has 173 tent and trailer sites with hot showers, flush toilets, a trailer dump station, and rowboat, canoe, and kayak rentals, but no individual hookups. Primitive sites in the Wild Forest have no water, no toilets, and limited cell service. Across all options, a firewood restriction applies: untreated wood cannot be moved more than 50 miles to reach the campground. Quiet hours at state facilities run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and generator use is limited to set daytime windows.
