Camping near Millerton, New York
Millerton sits in the northeast corner of Dutchess County, tucked against the Connecticut and Massachusetts borders where the Taconic Range meets the Harlem Valley. The village is a practical base for RV trips into the Hudson Valley and northwestern Connecticut, with the Harlem Valley Rail Trail running through town and Taconic State Park a few minutes north.
Campground options within a short drive cover both ends of the spectrum. Rudd Pond Area - Taconic State Park is the closest public option, a small state-run campground on a 64-acre pond just outside the village. Private full-service parks include Copake Camping Resort and Waubeeka Family Campground, both within a short drive with pools, cabins, and full RV hookups. Across the border in Kent, Connecticut, Housatonic Meadows State Park and Macedonia Brook State Park offer rustic riverside and streamside sites within reach of the Appalachian Trail.
Roads through the area are rural two-lanes with tight turns, which matters when choosing an RV length.
Things to do around Millerton
Water recreation centers on Rudd Pond, where the park rents rowboats, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats and maintains a designated swimming beach staffed on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through the third weekend in August. Waubeeka Family Campground has its own on-site recreation lake and beach, and Copake Camping Resort runs a heated pool, mini golf, and multi-sport courts on-site.
Hiking is the other major draw. Taconic State Park spans more than 6,000 acres of ridgeline trails with views into the Berkshires and Catskills, and Macedonia Brook State Park's Blue Trail crosses Cobble Mountain and several other peaks for some of the widest vistas in northwestern Connecticut. Housatonic Meadows sits along a well-known fly-fishing stretch of the Housatonic River, with hiking trails accessible from the grounds.

The camping window in this region is tight. Rudd Pond Area - Taconic State Park typically operates from late May through early September, and both Macedonia Brook State Park and Housatonic Meadows State Park follow a similar late-spring to early-fall pattern under Connecticut DEEP, opening in late May and closing around Labor Day or early October. Private parks stretch the season further, generally running from spring into mid or late October.
July and August are the busiest months and the warmest, with average highs near 81°F. Reservations for summer weekends and holidays should be locked in months in advance. Late May and June bring reliable hiking weather and thinner crowds, though blackflies and ticks are active.
September and early October are the strongest shoulder-season windows. Foliage across the Taconic and Berkshire ridges peaks in early to mid October, and cooler nights make campfires more comfortable. Winter closures apply to every public campground in the area.

We had a great experience renting from Krystal and her husband. They were responsive, helpful, and very accommodating from start to finish. The camper was a perfect solution for hosting our out-of-town guests and provided the extra space we needed. We would gladly rent from them again in the future.

Booking your Millerton RV trip is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform, not individual hosts. That means consistent, traveler-friendly rules whether you are renting a campervan for a Harney and Sons tea weekend or a motorhome for a Hudson Valley loop. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and your refund eligibility after that depends on how far in advance you cancel. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credit, and support is available 24/7 to help. Review the full policy before booking so you know exactly where you stand.

You skip the stress of towing or maneuvering an unfamiliar rig down narrow roads like NY-22. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host, so filter by Delivery on RVezy, message a host with your destination, and let them handle the heavy lifting.

parks.ny.gov/parks/83/details.aspxWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Millerton, NY?
Millerton shines from late May through mid-October, with the absolute peak being late September into mid-October when the Taconic and Berkshire foliage explodes into reds and golds. Summer days run a comfortable 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit with cool 55 to 65 degree nights perfect for campfires, while spring brings blooming countryside and fewer crowds. Winter dips into the teens and twenties with regular snow, so most state-park campgrounds close from late October through mid-May. weather.gov/aly/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Millerton beginner-friendly?
Millerton is a fantastic place for first time renting an RV: rural roads, modest traffic, and patient locals. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering generator, propane, slide-outs, water systems, and dumping, so you'll never feel left to figure it out alone. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and setup at your campsite. For your first solo drive, stick to wider routes like US-44 or the Taconic State Parkway (cars only, so know your route) instead of narrow back roads like Under Mountain Road. Pro tip: start with a Class B campervan or small travel trailer; they handle just like a large SUV.
dmv.ny.gov/new-drivers/drivers-manual-and-practice-testsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my Millerton RV trip?
You are covered. For non-emergency issues like a finicky furnace or a stuck slide, message your host first since they know their rig best, and RVezy support is reachable around the clock as backup. Save both numbers in your phone before you leave the driveway and you can truly relax.

For midweek stays in spring or early fall, two to four weeks ahead is usually fine. Private parks like Interlake RV typically open bookings 6 to 12 months out. Payment is straightforward and secure: RVezy processes your booking through the platform with a major credit or debit card, so you never hand cash to the host. As long as you return the RV in the same condition you received it (clean, with tanks dumped per the agreement, and no damage), your deposit is released after the trip. Take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, and tank levels at pickup and drop-off to avoid disputes.
