Campgrounds and RV parks near Mount Morris, NY

The main draw is Letchworth State Park, often called the Grand Canyon of the East. The Genesee River roars through the gorge, over three major waterfalls, between cliffs as high as 600 feet in some places. The Gorge Trail links the main falls and is among the most-hiked routes in the park. Activities include biking, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, hunting, swimming, visiting the park museum, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. A swimming pool operates in summer near the campground, and the Mount Morris Dam offers seasonal guided tours. Off-park options include boating and fishing on Conesus Lake, wineries along the Finger Lakes trails to the east, and Stony Brook State Park's gorge trails to the southeast.

The camping season at Letchworth State Park runs roughly from mid-spring through late fall, with the peak stretch from mid-May into early October. The park's swimming pool typically opens in late June and runs through Labor Day. Summer weekends and fall foliage weekends are the busiest windows and book out well in advance. Fall is a signature season here. Leaf color generally peaks in the gorge in early to mid-October, and campground demand climbs sharply on October weekends. Spring brings the highest waterfall flow but cool nights and muddy trails. Winter closes the campground, though the park itself stays open for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Private campgrounds in the area, including The Ridge Campsite, The Ridge Campground, Conesus Lake Campground, and Skybrook Campground, generally follow a similar spring-to-fall calendar. Confirm opening and closing dates directly with each operator before booking a shoulder-season trip. Note that construction of new shower buildings is reducing campsite availability at Letchworth through phased loop closures, so check current status before booking.

The main Letchworth campground sits near the park's south end, close to the Castile entrance, several miles by road from many of the gorge overlooks. Sites include tent and trailer options with electric hookups on many loops, dog-friendly loops for pet owners, cabins for those wanting more comfort, and a forested setting with good shade. A pool, playground, and snack bar sit at the campground's center, and tent campers, RV travelers, and cabin guests share the central shower facilities. Dumping stations are available on site. Cell coverage in the gorge is spotty, and internal park roads are narrow and can be stressful to navigate in large RVs, so confirm site length before arrival. Firewood must generally be purchased locally to prevent pest transport, and black bears are present in the region, so food storage discipline matters.
