Camping near Northville, New York
Northville sits at the northern tip of Great Sacandaga Lake in the southern Adirondack Park, roughly forty miles north of the New York State Thruway at Amsterdam. The village is a practical base for RV travelers: a compact main street with restaurants and a grocery store, direct access to the lake for boating and swimming, and the southern terminus of the Northville-Placid Trail at Waterfront Park.
Private campgrounds within a short drive include Glampful, Autumn Moon Campground, Watersedge Campground, Whispering Pines Campsites and RV Park, and Stewarts Pond Campsites. These parks range from lakefront sites suited to larger rigs to wooded, family-run properties with cabins and tent areas.
State-run options round out the mix. Northampton Beach Campground sits on the northwest corner of Great Sacandaga Lake, and Sacandaga Campground lies on the Sacandaga River where the east and west branches meet. Both are DEC-operated and add sandy or riverside sites, boat access, and dump stations for smaller RVs and pop-ups.
Things to do around Northville
The lake drives most trip planning. Great Sacandaga Lake stretches 29 miles and is a reservoir up to 6 miles across at its widest point, supporting motorboating, kayaking, sailing, and fishing for walleye, pike, and bass. Public beaches and boat launches ring the shoreline, and rentals are available seasonally at several access points.
On land, the Northville-Placid Trail departs from the village and connects to shorter day hikes in the Silver Lake Wilderness and Wilcox Lake Wild Forest. Auger Falls, about ten miles north on Route 30, is reached by a relatively easy 1.5-mile hike, and the east and west branches of the Sacandaga River are used by kayakers and canoeists during spring high water between Wells and Northville.
For families, expect small-town amenities in the village itself, including a public beach and easy drives to Saratoga Springs for a day off the campground.

The practical RV season runs from mid-May through early October. Northampton Beach Campground operates from mid-May through early October, and Sacandaga Campground is open seasonally from May through September. Private parks near Northville generally mirror this window, with a few offering shoulder-season stays into late fall.
Summer is peak. July and August bring warm days, full lake activity, and the highest demand for waterfront sites. Weekends around Independence Day and Labor Day book out furthest in advance. June is quieter, with cooler evenings and blackfly activity that tapers through the month.
Fall is the strongest shoulder season. Foliage in the southern Adirondacks typically peaks in the first two weeks of October, with cool nights, low humidity, and thinner crowds. Winter camping options are limited: most campgrounds close, the reservoir draws down in cold months, and snow cover is common from December through March.

How to book near Northville
State-run campgrounds near Northville are reserved through the ReserveAmerica system used by both New York State Parks and the Department of Environmental Conservation. DEC campgrounds can be reserved up to 9 months in advance, and sites become available at the 9-month window at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM on weekends between March 15 and Labor Day, shifting to 9AM daily outside that window. Same-day reservations are accepted until 5 p.m. on the day of arrival at DEC campgrounds.
Private parks such as Glampful, Autumn Moon Campground, Watersedge Campground, Whispering Pines Campsites and RV Park, and Stewarts Pond Campsites each handle their own bookings through their websites or by phone. Waterfront and full-hookup sites move first, so target eight to twelve weeks ahead for summer weekends.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Northville range from compact wooded pads on private lots to larger, level pads closer to the lake. Full hookups are more common at private parks; Northampton Beach offers hot showers, flush toilets, and a trailer dump station, while state sites generally provide limited or no hookups. Cell coverage is reliable in the village and along Route 30 but drops off quickly on side roads and deeper into the forest preserve.
Bring bug spray for late May and June. Firewood must be sourced locally to comply with New York's invasive-pest rules. Check-in at state sites runs from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and campers must register by 9:00 p.m. on the first night or the site may be re-rented. Pets are allowed on a leash no longer than six feet, but are not permitted on the beach or in day-use areas.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Northville, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Northville, NY?
An RV rental in Northville typically runs about $125 to $275 per night for travel trailers and $200 to $400 per night for Class C motorhomes, making travel trailers the most affordable way to explore the Great Sacandaga Lake region. Because Northville sits in the quieter southern Adirondacks rather than a major tourist hub, you can often find a cheap RV rental in Northville compared to nearby Lake George. To save more, book midweek, target shoulder seasons like late May or September, and use RVezy filters to sort by price. Many local hosts also offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, perfect for a leisurely week on the lake.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Northville%2C%20New%20YorkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Northville?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Northville, NY. New York State does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for the Class A, Class B, Class C, travel trailer, or fifth wheel rentals available on RVezy. You just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy handles ID verification right through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home-country license. That's it, no extra paperwork standing between you and your Adirondack adventure on the Great Sacandaga Lake.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/about-driver-licensesWhat protection comes with my Northville RV rental?
You are covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Northville booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on Route 30 or a hiccup at Northampton Beach Campground will not derail your trip. At checkout you choose your protection level, which covers eligible damage to the RV and gives you real peace of mind. First-time renters often choose a higher protection tier for a lower deductible, which is especially helpful when navigating winding Adirondack back roads. You can compare plan details on RVezy before you book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Northville RV trip?
Booking is low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not individual hosts, and every booking includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can plan with confidence. If your plans change due to weather, a family emergency, or a severe Adirondack snowstorm, RVezy's policy and support team are there to help. The exact refund amount depends on how far out from your trip you cancel, so review the policy details on the RVezy Help Center before you book. Lock in your dates early for peak Great Sacandaga Lake summer weekends, knowing flexibility is built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Northville RV rental?
Absolutely, your four-legged co-pilot is welcome. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to find pet-friendly RV rental Northville options, and you'll see plenty of hosts who happily welcome dogs. Northville is a dream for dogs: Waterfront Park on the Great Sacandaga Lake is leash-friendly, and the southern terminus of the Northville-Placid Trail offers shaded forest walks just outside the village. Sacandaga Campground and Northampton Beach Campground both allow leashed dogs at campsites (proof of rabies vaccination required at NYS DEC campgrounds). Pro tip: pack a towel for sandy paws after a Northampton Beach swim, and message the host before booking to confirm any small cleaning fee.
dec.ny.gov/places/northampton-beach-campground-and-day-use-areaCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Northville?
Yes, and it is the easiest way to start your trip. Many Northville-area hosts offer RV delivery to popular spots like Northampton Beach Campground, Sacandaga Campground, or a private lakefront property on Great Sacandaga Lake. Your host arrives, levels the rig, hooks up to water and electric where available, and walks you through every system from the propane stove to the awning. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to find hosts offering this service. Delivery is a game changer for first-time renters, since you can fly into Albany International Airport (about an hour south) and skip the tow-vehicle hassle entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037947453-RV-deliveryHow far can I drive from Northville on an RV trip?
You are perfectly positioned for a classic Adirondack RV road trip from Northville. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage when you ask. Popular drives include Lake George (about 35 miles east, around an hour), Saratoga Springs (about 40 miles southeast, an hour), Lake Placid via the scenic Route 30 corridor (about 130 miles north, around 2.5 hours), and Cooperstown's Baseball Hall of Fame (about 70 miles southwest, around 1.5 hours). For longer hauls, New York City is roughly 220 miles south and Niagara Falls about 280 miles west. If you plan to circle the High Peaks, ask your host upfront about unlimited mileage add-ons.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/adirondacks/Where are the best campgrounds near Northville, NY?
You are spoiled for choice with some of the best campgrounds near Northville right at your doorstep. Northampton Beach Campground sits just south of the village on Great Sacandaga Lake, with a sandy beach, boat launch, and electric hookups at many sites, perfect for RV camping Northville style. Sacandaga Campground (locally known as The Forks) offers wooded sites along the Sacandaga River about 18 miles north on Route 30. Moffitt Beach Campground near Speculator (about 28 miles north) has lakefront sites and swimming. For full hookups, look at private parks like Lake George Escape (about 50 miles east). Most NYS DEC campgrounds have dump stations and potable water fills, so plan accordingly.
dec.ny.gov/places/northampton-beach-campground-and-day-use-areaWhen is the best time to visit Northville in an RV?
Northville shines year round, but late June through mid-September is the sweet spot for an RV trip with warm lake swims and long daylight. Summer highs typically run in the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit with cool nights in the 50s, ideal RV weather. September and early October bring legendary Adirondack fall foliage with crisp 60s during the day and far fewer crowds. Spring from May to early June is great for fishing the Sacandaga River, though pack a layer for chilly 40 degree nights. Winter RV trips are possible for cold-weather enthusiasts. Book July 4th weekend at least three months ahead, as the Great Sacandaga Lake area draws strong holiday crowds.
weather.gov/aly/Can I rent an RV in Northville in the winter?
Yes, and winter in the southern Adirondacks is a magical RV experience. Many Northville hosts keep four-season rigs available for ice fishing on Great Sacandaga Lake, snowmobiling Fulton County's extensive groomed trail network, or cross-country skiing at Lapland Lake Nordic Vacation Center north of the village. Look for RVs listed with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and shore-power compatibility, key features for January temperatures that can dip well below freezing. Most NYS DEC campgrounds close in winter, so plan to stay at private RV parks with seasonal hookups or arrange a plowed private site. Ask your host about adding a portable propane tank, as winter heating burns through fuel quickly.
weather.gov/aly/What if I'm a first-time RV renter, will I know what to do?
You will be in great shape, and your host has your back. Every RVezy booking includes a hands-on orientation at pickup or delivery where your host walks you through the generator, propane, slide-outs, water systems, dump procedure, and driving tips, with no rushed handoffs. Northville is an ideal first-time RV rental destination: Route 30 is wide, scenic, and relatively flat through the village, and the short drive to Northampton Beach Campground lets you settle in before tackling longer trips. You can also message your host through the RVezy platform anytime during your trip. Take photos or a quick video during your walkthrough so you can review the awning and hookup instructions before your first sunset on the lake.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180994-For-rentersWhat happens if my RV breaks down near Northville?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. Just call the number provided in your booking confirmation and help is dispatched, whether you are parked on Bridge Street in the village or out along Route 8 near Piseco Lake. Your host is also one message away through the RVezy app and often knows local mechanics. Cell service is solid throughout Northville and along the Great Sacandaga Lake shore, though it can get patchy in the deeper Adirondack backcountry. Snap a photo of your RV's VIN and plate at pickup to speed up any roadside calls.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037947293-Roadside-assistanceCan I take a Northville RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Interstate travel is a yes. You can freely drive your Northville RV into Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, or anywhere in the lower 48, perfect for a New England fall foliage loop. Cross-border travel into Canada (Montreal is roughly 3.5 hours north) may be allowed depending on the host and protection coverage, so message the host before booking to confirm and get written approval through RVezy chat. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, as protection coverage does not extend there. If you are heading to Canada, bring your passport, vehicle registration paperwork from the host, and proof of trip approval from your RVezy messages.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Northville RV trip?
Fuel is easier to budget than most people expect. A Class C motorhome around Northville averages 8 to 10 miles per gallon, a travel trailer pulled by a truck averages 10 to 14 MPG, and a Class B campervan rental in Northville can hit 18 to 20 MPG. Gas prices in upstate New York typically run around $3.30 to $3.70 per gallon, with Stewart's Shops on Route 30 in Northville and Mayfield being convenient fill-up stops. For a typical 4-day, 300-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $110 to $140 in fuel. Fill up in Mayfield or Gloversville before heading deeper into the Adirondacks, where stations are sparser and prices climb.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a Northville campground?
Plan ahead and you will lock in the best sites. New York State DEC campgrounds like Northampton Beach and Sacandaga accept reservations up to nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and lakefront sites at Northampton Beach can sell out quickly when booking windows open for July and August weekends. For shoulder-season trips in late May, September, or October, four to six weeks ahead is usually plenty. Holiday weekends like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day require maximum lead time. If your dream weekend is fully booked, set up a ReserveAmerica alert for cancellations, as sites pop back open regularly as plans change.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Northville?
Driving an RV around Northville is refreshingly low stress. Route 30, the main artery through the village and along Great Sacandaga Lake, is a well-maintained two-lane state highway with gentle curves and easy pull-offs, ideal for first-timers. The village itself has low-speed streets with no tight clearances. Heading deeper into the Adirondacks, watch for steeper grades around the High Peaks region, and always check the forecast in shoulder seasons since black ice can form on cold mornings near the lake. Deer crossings are common at dawn and dusk along Route 30. Stick with Route 30 rather than narrow shortcuts like Benson Road for the easiest route to Sacandaga Campground.
511ny.org/What amenities do campgrounds near Northville offer?
Northville-area campgrounds offer a great mix of rustic charm and practical amenities. NYS DEC campgrounds like Northampton Beach and Sacandaga offer hot showers, flush toilets, trailer dump stations, potable water fills, picnic tables, and fire rings at every site. Some sites at Northampton Beach offer electric hookups, while most DEC sites are non-hookup. For full hookups, head to a private park like Lake George Escape. The trailer dump station at Northampton Beach is open to registered campers, and many private lakeside owners list hookup-equipped driveways on RVezy. Top off your fresh water tank at the campground entrance, it is easier than maneuvering a long rig back to the spigot later.
dec.ny.gov/places/northampton-beach-campground-and-day-use-areaWhat amenities are included in a typical Northville RV rental?
You will get more comfort than you expect. A typical motorhome rental in Northville comes fully equipped with sleeping for 4 to 8 (queen bed, convertible dinette, bunk options), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with roof AC and propane furnace, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many rigs include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and an awning for lakeside lounging. Generators are common in Class C and Class A rentals, while travel trailers often rely on shore power or batteries. Wi-Fi is usually BYO via your phone's hotspot, since cell coverage around Great Sacandaga Lake is generally good. Check the listing photos for outdoor kitchens, a huge plus for grilling at the campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Northville%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Northville RV rental?
Hosts offer a wide range of helpful add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include kitchen kits, bedding and linens, camp chairs and outdoor mats, portable grills, generators, kayaks or paddleboards for Great Sacandaga Lake, and bike racks. Delivery and setup is typically priced per mile from the host's location. Mileage allowances vary by listing: most Northville hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles billed at a per-mile rate set by the host. Pickup is usually at the host's address, with morning pickups and late-afternoon drop-offs being standard. Ask about a kayak add-on, paddling out from Northampton Beach at sunrise is unforgettable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Northville%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Northville?
Payment is simple, secure, and handled entirely through RVezy, with no cash or e-transfers to hosts. You pay the booking total (rental cost, fees, and your chosen protection plan) at checkout by credit or debit card. A separate security deposit hold is placed on your card before the trip starts, with the amount depending on the RV and protection level you selected. If the RV is returned in good shape (clean, fueled, on time), the hold is released within a few business days after drop-off. Do a quick walk-around video with your host at pickup and again at drop-off to avoid any deposit disputes and start your Adirondack adventure on the right foot.
