Ogdensburg camping overview
Ogdensburg sits on the south bank of the St. Lawrence River in St. Lawrence County, New York, directly across from Prescott, Ontario. The area is a working gateway to the Thousand Islands region and the Seaway Trail corridor, with camping options spread along the river and inland along the Oswegatchie River.
Eel Weir State Park is the closest state option, tucked along the Oswegatchie about seven miles south of the city off Route 812. West along Route 12 near Morristown, Jacques Cartier State Park offers spacious sites with views of the St. Lawrence River and its shipping channel. Across the international bridge, Cardinal / Ottawa South KOA Holiday provides full-service RV sites on the Ontario side. Wildwood Campground and The Log Cabins round out the choices with private, family-run properties in the region.
RV travelers use Ogdensburg as a base for river fishing, boating, and day trips into both Canada and the Adirondack foothills. Reservations move quickly in summer, and the mix of state park and private options gives flexibility on hookups, length, and check-in windows.
Things to do near Ogdensburg
The St. Lawrence River drives most trip planning. Boat launches, boat rentals, and dockage at Jacques Cartier State Park support fishing, waterskiing, and swimming at a sandy beach that is lifeguarded in July and August. Eel Weir sits on quieter Oswegatchie waters and Black Lake, both known for excellent bass fishing and ideal for canoes and rowboats.
In town, the Frederic Remington Art Museum and the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge give an easy half-day itinerary. Crossing into Ontario opens up Upper Canada Village and other heritage stops near the KOA at Cardinal.
Families find playgrounds, nature trails, and open lawns at the nearby state parks. In winter, park trails at Jacques Cartier are open for cross-country skiing, and day-use access continues year-round from sunrise to sunset.

Camping in the Ogdensburg area is a warm-season activity. Jacques Cartier State Park operates its Lower and Upper camping loops from mid-May through mid-September, with the swimming beach typically open from late June into early September. Individual loops or sites within the season can open later or close earlier, so confirming the exact dates for a given site is important.
July and August are peak. Weekends fill first, with families targeting the beach-open window. Late spring and early September offer cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier last-minute availability, though water activities may be limited before the beach opens and after Labor Day.
Winter closes the state park campgrounds, but day-use access continues sunrise to sunset for cross-country skiing. Snowfall in the region is heavy, averaging around five feet per winter, so RV travel between November and April is generally not practical without a fully winterized rig and a private park that stays open.
How to book near Ogdensburg
New York State Parks, including Jacques Cartier and Eel Weir, use the ReserveAmerica system. Bookings open up to nine months in advance for campsites, and same-day reservations are accepted online until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival. Reservations inside the standard window can also be made by phone through the ReserveAmerica call center. Walk-ins are not permitted for campsites.
Cardinal / Ottawa South KOA Holiday books directly through the KOA reservation portal, and private options such as Wildwood Campground and The Log Cabins take reservations through their own websites or by phone.
For summer weekends and holidays, booking two to three months ahead is recommended, especially for waterfront or pull-through sites suited to larger rigs. Cancellation windows and change fees vary by park, so confirm terms before paying in full.
What to expect near Ogdensburg
Sites at Jacques Cartier State Park are spacious, with panoramic views of the St. Lawrence River or sheltered forest, plus showers and a dump station on site. The park is generally suitable for larger rigs, though some loops are hilly and worth checking on a site map before booking a longer coach. Park rangers are on duty and a vehicle use fee applies at day-use entry.
Eel Weir is smaller and more rustic, with 38 grassy sites better suited to tent campers and mid-size RVs. The KOA at Cardinal on the Ontario side offers fuller hookups and amenities for travelers wanting laundry, Wi-Fi, and a pool.
Pets are allowed at the state parks with a two-pet limit per site and a six-foot leash rule, and current proof of rabies inoculation is required at check-in. Border crossing at the Ogdensburg-Prescott bridge requires passports.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Ogdensburg, NY?
RV rental in Ogdensburg is one of the more affordable ways to explore New York's North Country, with prices that often beat the bigger metros downstate. On RVezy, you'll typically see travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night, campervans around $125 to $200 per night, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes ranging from $175 to $325 per night. Since hosts set their own pricing, you can filter by price range and even find a cheap RV rental in Ogdensburg by booking mid-week or in early June or September when demand softens. parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/eel-weir-state-parkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Ogdensburg, NY?
Good news: for nearly every RV you will rent in Ogdensburg, your regular New York Class D driver's license (or equivalent from any state) is all you need. The vast majority of RVs on RVezy, including campervans, travel trailers, and Class C motorhomes, are well under the 26,000-pound threshold that would require a Recreational Vehicle (R) endorsement in New York. RVezy generally requires approved drivers to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified right in the app, so there is no paperwork to chase. Visiting from Canada or overseas to cross the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit if your license is not in English, and you are ready to roll.

Every RV rental in Ogdensburg booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 37 or cross the St. Lawrence with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host. That means you decide how much financial protection you want before you pick up the keys. It is designed specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals, which is one of the reasons first-time renters in the Thousand Islands region feel confident booking. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers at checkout and pick the level that matches how adventurous your motorhome rental Ogdensburg plans are.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Ogdensburg RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in Ogdensburg, NY is low-risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets and manages the cancellation policy across the platform. There is a grace period after booking where you can get a full refund, and the policy is the same whether you book a campervan, travel trailer, or motorhome. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you in full or provides travel credits so your trip can still happen. The exact refund window depends on how close you are to your trip start date and is explained clearly at checkout before you confirm. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs near Eel Weir State Park or Wellesley Island, knowing the RVezy cancellation policy gives you a built-in safety net.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an Ogdensburg RV trip?
Absolutely, and Ogdensburg is a fantastic place for a pet-friendly RV rental. Many RVezy hosts in the area welcome dogs, just use the Pet-Friendly filter when you search to see only those listings. Once you're on the road, you'll find that nearby state parks make it easy: Eel Weir State Park allows up to two pets per campsite, and Wellesley Island State Park has 10 pet-friendly cabin units (you'll need to bring current proof of rabies vaccination at check-in). Leashes must be no longer than 6 feet. Pro tip: the Maple City Trail along the St. Lawrence riverfront in downtown Ogdensburg is a beautiful, leash-friendly walk to stretch everyone's legs before heading out for the day.
parks.ny.gov/inside-our-agency/pets-in-parks.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Ogdensburg?
Yes, RV delivery in Ogdensburg is offered by many local hosts, and it is hands-down the easiest way to start your trip, especially if you are a first-timer. Filter for Delivery on RVezy and you will find hosts who will drop the RV right at Eel Weir State Park, Lisbon Beach and Campground on Route 37, or a private property along the Oswegatchie River. They will level the rig, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system so you skip the stress of towing or maneuvering a motorhome through unfamiliar territory. Pro tip: delivery fees are usually based on distance from the host's location, so look for hosts based right in Ogdensburg, Heuvelton, or Lisbon to keep the cost low.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ogdensburg%2C%20New%20YorkHow far can I drive on my Ogdensburg RV rental, and what's the mileage policy?

You're spoiled for choice with great RV camping near Ogdensburg. The closest gem is Eel Weir State Park, just 7 miles south on Route 812, with 38 quiet sites along the Oswegatchie River and excellent bass fishing. Lisbon Beach and Campground (9975 NY-37) offers 66 sites with full hookups right on the St. Lawrence River, just a short drive east. About an hour southwest, Wellesley Island State Park is the largest camping complex in the Thousand Islands region with 432 sites, a marina, a sandy beach, and full-hookup loops. Robert Moses State Park near Massena is another standout, set on Barnhart Island under the Eisenhower Lock. Pro tip: book Wellesley Island's Fox Loop for full hookups, they go fast for summer weekends.
parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/wellesley-island-state-parkWhen is the best time to visit Ogdensburg in an RV?
The sweet spot for an Ogdensburg RV trip is mid-May through late September, when daytime highs climb from the mid-60s°F in May to a comfortable 77°F in July, then ease back into the pleasant 70s°F in early September. July is the warmest month and the prime time for swimming and boating on the St. Lawrence River, while late September brings cooler nights, fewer crowds, and the first glimpses of fall color along the Seaway Trail. Winters here are seriously snowy (Ogdensburg averages over 60 inches of snow), so most campgrounds close from mid-October through April. Pro tip: book a Labor Day-week trip, you'll get warm river days, open campgrounds, and noticeably lower nightly rates.
weather.gov/btv/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Ogdensburg a good idea?
Ogdensburg is actually a perfect place for first time renting an RV. The roads in St. Lawrence County are wide, mostly flat, and traffic is light compared to anywhere downstate, so you can build confidence on Route 37 or Route 812 before tackling anything bigger. Every RVezy host walks you through the rig at pickup, covering hookups, the awning, the water system, and the dashboard, so you're never left to figure things out alone. You can also message the host before booking with any nervous questions. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or campervan rental Ogdensburg under 25 feet for your first trip, then head straight to Eel Weir State Park to practice in a quiet, low-pressure setting.
dot.ny.gov/indexWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You are covered around the clock. Every Ogdensburg RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 37, a dead battery at Eel Weir, or a breakdown on the way to Alexandria Bay is just a phone call away. The roadside team can dispatch help for tire changes, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. Your host is also a resource, most are local to Ogdensburg or nearby Heuvelton, Lisbon, or Canton, and they know the area well. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's contact info to your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Ogdensburg RV rental into Canada?
Cross-border RV road trips from Ogdensburg are one of the area's coolest perks, since the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge puts you in Ontario in under 10 minutes, with Ottawa just over an hour up Highway 416. Cross-border travel into Canada is allowed on many RVezy rentals, but it depends on the individual host's insurance, so message them directly from the listing page before you book to confirm. You'll need a valid passport, your rental agreement, and you should declare the rental at the border. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: the Ogdensburg-Prescott crossing typically has wait times of just 10 to 20 minutes, much shorter than Niagara or the Thousand Islands Bridge.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on an Ogdensburg RV road trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger line items on any RV road trip from Ogdensburg, but it's easy to plan for. Campervans and small Class B rigs typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, and larger Class A motorhomes run 7 to 10 MPG. New York gas prices in the North Country usually sit a bit above the national average, around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon in 2025. For a quick example: a 200-mile loop from Ogdensburg to Alexandria Bay and back in a Class C at 12 MPG would burn about 17 gallons, roughly $60. Pro tip: top up at the Stewart's or Mobil stations along Route 37 in Ogdensburg before crossing the bridge, Canadian fuel is sold by the litre and generally costs more.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Ogdensburg?
For the best sites, plan to book your campground 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for summer weekends. New York State Parks (Eel Weir, Wellesley Island, Robert Moses, Kring Point, Jacques Cartier) all use ReserveAmerica, and reservations open up to 9 months in advance, with new sites releasing at 8 AM Monday through Friday from March 15 through Labor Day. Private campgrounds like Lisbon Beach take reservations directly. Pro tip: if you're doing a last-minute Ogdensburg RV trip, you can book a 1-night stay at New York State Parks online if it's within 3 days of arrival, perfect for a spontaneous Friday-night escape to Eel Weir.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/eel-weir-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=445What are local driving conditions like around Ogdensburg?
Driving an RV around Ogdensburg is refreshingly low-stress. Route 37 (the main east-west corridor along the St. Lawrence River) and Route 812 (running south to Watertown) are wide, two-lane state highways with light traffic and gentle terrain, no mountain passes or aggressive grades to worry about. The Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge has a steel-grate deck and a single lane in each direction, so take it slow and steady; in 2026 the bridge is operating under one-lane traffic control with possible delays. Winters bring serious snow (60+ inches annually) and lake-effect squalls, so most rentals run from May to October. Pro tip: dial 511 or visit 511NY for real-time road conditions before you head out, especially in shoulder seasons when overnight frost is possible.
511ny.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Ogdensburg?
Campgrounds around Ogdensburg cover the full spectrum, from rustic riverside sites to full-hookup resorts. Eel Weir State Park (7 miles south) has 38 sites with showers, restrooms, a dump station, and a boat launch, though hookups are limited. Lisbon Beach Campground on Route 37 offers 56 full-hookup sites with electric and water right on the St. Lawrence. Wellesley Island State Park has full hookups in the Fox loop plus a dump station, laundromat, camp store, marina, and a 9-hole golf course. Most have potable water fill stations available at the entrance. Pro tip: if you're staying somewhere without a dump station, the dump at Wellesley Island is open to non-campers for a small fee, very handy at the end of a loop trip.
parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/wellesley-island-state-parkWhat features and amenities come with Ogdensburg RV rentals?
RVs on RVezy in Ogdensburg are personally owned and well-equipped for North Country adventures. Most listings include real beds (queen-size in many travel trailers and Class C motorhomes), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, and microwave, a bathroom with shower and toilet, heating and air conditioning, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator, key for boondocking at quieter spots like Eel Weir where electric hookups are limited. Wi-Fi hotspots, bike racks, and outdoor camp chairs are common add-ons. Pro tip: filter listings by Sleeps count and check the photos carefully, a family RV trip Ogdensburg works best when everyone has a real sleeping spot, not just a converted dinette.
parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/eel-weir-state-parkWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Most Ogdensburg RVezy hosts offer convenient add-ons that can level up your trip, including bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), camp kitchen kits, generators ($15 to $35 per day), kayaks or bikes (great for paddling the Oswegatchie or biking the Maple City Trail), and propane refills. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Ogdensburg, and many hosts also offer delivery to local campgrounds for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies are spelled out on each listing, with daily allowances and a per-mile overage rate (or unlimited mileage on some rentals). Pro tip: ask the host about a free pre-trip walkthrough video, many will send one so you arrive at pickup already familiar with the rig.
dot.ny.gov/indexHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay the full booking total through RVezy at checkout using a credit or debit card, no cash, no awkward host transactions. A security deposit is held (not charged) on your card a few days before your trip starts and is released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. The deposit amount is shown on the listing before you book and is separate from your rental cost. To avoid any deposit issues, do a quick walkthrough video with the host at both pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the agreed fuel level, and dump the tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: many Ogdensburg hosts offer a dump-and-clean add-on for $50 to $100, often worth it after a busy long weekend.
