Campgrounds near Sodus, New York
Sodus sits on the south shore of Lake Ontario in Wayne County, roughly 35 miles east of Rochester and about an hour north of the Finger Lakes wine region. The town straddles NY Route 104 and gives RV travelers quick access to Sodus Bay, the village of Sodus Point, and Chimney Bluffs State Park to the east.
Camping options within a short drive include South Shore RV Park, Lake Bluff RV Park, Nor-Win Farm and Campsite, Whispering Winds RV and Fun Center, and Port Bay RV Park and Campgrounds. Choices range from waterfront and bluff-top sites near the lake to quieter inland farm and family campgrounds that suit longer stays.
Most private parks in the area cater to RVs with full or partial hookups, and Fair Haven Beach State Park to the east adds a large public campground with electric and non-electric loops for travelers who prefer a state-park setting.
Things to do around Sodus
The Sodus Point Lighthouse and its museum sit at the tip of the peninsula guarding Sodus Bay, with a small village strip nearby for ice cream, restaurants, and boat rentals. Sandy Point Beach Park is walkable from the village and works well for a swim day with kids.
Chimney Bluffs State Park, a short drive east, is the signature hike in the region, with clay spires rising above the Lake Ontario shoreline and trails along the bluff top and lakeshore. Sodus Bay is a popular fishing and boating water, and charter captains run trips for salmon, trout, and bass.
Inland, the Lake Ontario Wine Trail, apple orchards, and farm stands along Lake Road give families a full day of low-key stops between campground and beach.

The camping season around Sodus runs roughly from mid-May through mid-October, tracking the New York State Parks calendar. At Fair Haven Beach State Park, the Drumlin B, Bluff, and Lakeview loops typically run from mid-May through mid-October, while the Drumlin A loop closes earlier in early September.
July and August are the busiest weeks, driven by lake swimming, fishing charters, and Finger Lakes wine trips. Weekends around Independence Day and Labor Day fill first, and lakefront and electric sites are the earliest to book out. Late May, June, and September are quieter and often more comfortable for hiking Chimney Bluffs.
Winter closes most private RV parks. Snow, lake-effect squalls off Lake Ontario, and freezing temperatures make November through March a poor window for RV camping, though winter snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing are very popular at Fair Haven Beach.

weather.gov/buf/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay renting in Sodus?
You'll be just fine, this is one of the easiest places in New York to learn. First time renting an RV? Your RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, generator, and waste tanks, plus their phone number for questions during the trip. Sodus has wide rural roads, light traffic, and gentle terrain, far easier than navigating Manhattan or the Adirondack passes. State Route 104 and Route 14 are flat, well-maintained, and motorhome-friendly. Pro tip: book a travel trailer with host delivery your first time, you get the full RV experience without towing, and the host parks and levels it for you at the campground.
dmv.ny.gov/more-info/drivers-manual-and-practice-testsWhat happens if I break down during my Sodus RV trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you have a flat tire on State Route 104, a dead battery at the KOA, or a mechanical issue heading to Chimney Bluffs. You will also have your host's direct number for quick questions about the specific rig, plus RVezy's customer support team available before, during, and after your trip. Sodus is close to service centers in Rochester (about 35 miles) and Newark, NY (about 15 miles), so parts and repairs are never far. Save the roadside number in your phone at pickup and travel worry-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Sodus RV rental into Canada or another US state?
Many hosts allow cross-border trips into Canada, since Sodus sits about 90 minutes from the Niagara border crossing at Lewiston-Queenston. Message the host directly before booking to confirm Canada travel is permitted on their listing, since insurance and protection coverage details vary by rig. Interstate travel within the US (Pennsylvania, Vermont, Ohio) is generally welcome. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental due to insurance restrictions. Popular routes from Sodus include the Niagara Falls loop, the Thousand Islands run east along Lake Ontario, and a Vermont fall-foliage trip through the Adirondacks. Bring your passport for any Canada crossing.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Sodus RV road trip?
Fuel is one of your biggest variables, so plan smart. Expect about 8 to 10 MPG for Class A motorhomes, 10 to 14 MPG for Class C, and 16 to 20 MPG for a campervan or tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. New York gas prices typically run $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon in the Sodus area, slightly cheaper than NYC but a bit higher than Pennsylvania. For a 300-mile RV road trip from Sodus through the Finger Lakes wineries, budget roughly $90 to $140 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in nearby Newark or Lyons on Route 31 before heading out, prices are usually a few cents lower than Sodus Point.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Sodus?
For peak summer weekends (mid-June through Labor Day), book your campsite 4 to 6 months ahead, especially for waterfront sites at Fair Haven Beach State Park or the lake-view pads at Sodus Point KOA. State parks in New York use ReserveAmerica (newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com) and open reservations on a 9-month rolling window, set a calendar reminder for exactly 9 months before your target date. Private parks like South Shore RV Park and Sodus Point RV Park book directly on their websites. Shoulder season (May, September, October) is usually bookable 2 to 4 weeks ahead. Pro tip: pair an early campground reservation with Instant Book on RVezy to lock the whole trip in one afternoon.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Sodus, NY?
Driving an RV around Sodus is refreshingly stress-free. The main routes, State Route 104, Route 14, and Lake Road, are flat, paved, and built for trucks and RVs with wide shoulders and easy sight lines. You'll deal with very little traffic outside of Rochester rush hour on I-490. Things to know: lake-effect weather can roll in fast off Lake Ontario, bringing wind gusts in spring and fall and occasional whiteout snow in winter, so check the NWS Buffalo forecast before driving. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk on rural Wayne County roads. Local insider tip: avoid the narrow lanes inside Sodus Point village with anything bigger than a Class C, park at the public lot near the beach and walk.
511ny.org/What hookups and amenities will I find at Sodus campgrounds?
You'll find excellent infrastructure here. Most Sodus-area campgrounds offer 50/30/20 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, including Sodus Point KOA, South Shore RV Park, and Sodus Point RV Park. Fair Haven Beach State Park offers electric-only sites with shared water spigots and a central dump station. Dump stations and potable water fills are widely available, KOA and South Shore both have on-site dumps, and there's a public dump at Fair Haven Beach State Park. Most parks include hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi (spotty near the lake), camp stores, and propane refills. Pro tip: top off fresh water before parking, Lake Ontario humidity makes everyone drink more than they expect.

More than you would guess, today's rentals are basically vacation homes on wheels. A typical motorhome rental in Sodus comes with a queen or king bed, fold-out dinette and sofa beds, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, roof A/C, furnace, awning, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Most hosts include a TV, and many list Wi-Fi hotspots, generators, or solar setups as add-ons. Class B campervan rentals in Sodus are perfect for couples and squeeze all the essentials into a drivable footprint. Check the listing's amenities tab for specifics, and message the host if you need something particular like a CPAP outlet or a kid's booster seat.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sodus%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons can I get with my Sodus RV rental?
Hosts on RVezy offer some genuinely useful extras that make your trip easier. Common add-ons in the Sodus area include kitchen kits, linen and bedding packages, camp chairs and outdoor mats, portable grills, kayaks and SUP boards (handy for Sodus Bay), generators, and bike racks. Delivery and setup is one of the most popular add-ons, especially to Sodus Point KOA or Fair Haven Beach State Park. Pickup and dropoff are usually at the host's home, though many will meet you at the campground for a fee. Review the listing's add-on menu, then confirm your mileage policy in the same message so there are no surprises at checkout.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sodus%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and transparent. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host in cash, which keeps you protected by the booking's protection plan. Most hosts in Sodus require a refundable security deposit that is authorized on your card a few days before pickup and released within a week of return, assuming no damage. To avoid hold-ups: document the RV's condition with photos at pickup and dropoff, return it with the same fuel and propane levels, and follow the host's dump-tank instructions. Keep all communication inside the RVezy app so there is a clear record.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre Sodus RV rentals available in winter, and how do I stay warm?
Yes, winter RV rentals in Sodus are absolutely doable and quietly spectacular, think empty beaches, frozen Sodus Bay sunsets, and ice-fishing tournaments. Filter RVezy listings for four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and propane furnaces. South Shore RV Park is the main year-round campground in Sodus Point with winter hookups, while most other parks close mid-October. Expect January temps from 15 to 32°F with lake-effect snow squalls off Lake Ontario, so confirm shore power (30 or 50 amp) is included, bring a heated water hose, and ask your host about skirting. Local insider tip: pair a winter trip with the Sodus Bay Lighthouse holiday season or a Finger Lakes ice-wine tour for a one-of-a-kind getaway.
