Campgrounds and RV parks near Southampton, NY

Southampton sits on the South Fork of Long Island, roughly two hours east of New York City by road. The village is surrounded by Atlantic Ocean beaches to the south and the calmer waters of Peconic Bay and Long Island Sound to the north, which shapes where campgrounds are located. RV renters will not find campgrounds inside Southampton village itself; nearby options cluster on the North Fork, further east near Montauk, and across Long Island Sound in coastal Connecticut. The closest option is Eastern Long Island Kampground in Greenport on the North Fork, a family-run park with full hookups, a pool, and a laundry room. To the east, Hither Hills State Park in Montauk offers oceanfront camping on a two-mile Atlantic beachfront. Wildwood State Park sits in the Town of Riverhead on the north shore of Long Island, with a beach on Long Island Sound. Across the Sound, Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, Connecticut, and Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA add larger-scale options accessible via the Cross Sound Ferry or by driving through New York City.

New York state parks including Hither Hills and Wildwood open reservations exactly 9 months before arrival on ReserveAmerica. Popular dates sell out within minutes, so create an account in advance and be logged in when the window opens. The permit holder must be 21 or older to rent a campsite and must be present at all times, and staff check ID at check-in. Reservations are non-transferable and reselling is strictly prohibited. Connecticut state parks use a separate ReserveAmerica portal. Hammonasset reservations must be made one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Private parks book direct. Eastern Long Island Kampground reserves by phone or through its website, and Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA books online or through the KOA reservation system.
