Campgrounds and RV parks near Southold, NY

Southold sits on the North Fork of Long Island, a narrow peninsula between Long Island Sound and Peconic Bay. RV campers heading to this area have a short list of dedicated campgrounds on the fork itself, and a larger cluster of state and private parks a ferry ride or drive away on the Connecticut shoreline. On the North Fork, Eastern Long Island Kampground in Greenport is the main private option, with a mix of full hookups, electric and water sites, tent sites, laundry, a pool, and a playground. Maximum RV length is 38 feet and electrical service is 20 and 30 amp. Across the Sound, reachable by the Cross Sound Ferry from Orient Point or by driving around, campers find Connecticut's largest shoreline parks. Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison has over two miles of sandy beach and more than 550 campsites, and Rocky Neck State Park covers roughly 700 acres of beach and coastal thicket on Long Island Sound in East Lyme. Private options include Riverdale Farm CampSites in Clinton and Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA.

Connecticut state parks share one reservation system. Sites at Hammonasset and Rocky Neck can be booked through Reserve America up to 11 months in advance, with a 1-day minimum lead before arrival. A reservation freeze policy applies at both coastal parks: any reservation with a departure date more than 11 months out cannot be changed or cancelled for 25 days after it is made. Private parks book directly. Eastern Long Island Kampground and Riverdale Farm CampSites take reservations by phone and through their own websites, and Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA books through the KOA site or the KOA reservation line. For summer weekends, book several months out; midweek stays in May, June, and September are easier to secure on shorter notice.
