Camping near Union Springs, New York
Union Springs sits on the east shore of Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes region of central New York, roughly midway between Auburn and Ithaca. The village works well as a base for RV travelers because it puts anglers, paddlers, and winery visitors within reach of both shorelines of the lake, plus quick access to Seneca Falls, Skaneateles, and the northern Finger Lakes.
Options range from a state park on the opposite (west) shore to private RV parks. Cayuga Lake State Park sits on the west shore near Seneca Falls, with a beach, boat launch, cabins, and a mix of electric and non-electric campsites split between an East Camp and a West Side loop. West Side at Cayuga Lake State Park holds the non-electric sites and several cabins, while the East Camp carries the electric hookups. Hejamada Campground and RV Park and Sned Acres Family Campgrounds are family-run private parks in the area, and Rivers Crossing Campground and Marina adds direct water access for boaters. Waterloo/Finger Lakes KOA Holiday rounds out the mix with a full-service KOA close to the Thruway.
Most sites are seasonal, with the core camping window running roughly from mid-May through mid-October.
Things to do around Union Springs
Cayuga Lake anchors most trips. Anglers target largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, lake trout, and landlocked salmon, with shallow bays holding bullheads and carp. Kayakers and paddleboarders launch from public ramps on both shores, and the lake supports powerboating, sailing, and tubing through the summer.
On land, the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail and Cayuga Lake Scenic Byway loop the lake and connect tasting rooms, farm stands, and small villages. Day trips include Taughannock Falls State Park south of the lake, Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge to the north, and the Women's Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls.
Families staying at Cayuga Lake State Park have a swimming beach, playground, and picnic areas on site, with the playground closest to the East Camp loops.

The camping season in this part of the Finger Lakes is short. Cayuga Lake State Park typically opens campsites and cabins in mid-May and closes them in mid-October, with the rustic cabins running a shorter window from late May into early September. Private parks such as Hejamada Campground and RV Park, Sned Acres Family Campgrounds, Rivers Crossing Campground and Marina, and Waterloo/Finger Lakes KOA Holiday generally follow a similar spring-to-fall pattern, opening as weather allows.
July and August bring the warmest lake temperatures and the busiest weekends, with holiday dates booking out first. Late May through June offers longer days, cooler nights, and lighter crowds, though early summer is often wet in the region.
September and early October are strong shoulder-season picks: harvest activity picks up on the wine trail, fall color builds along the lake, and availability improves. Winter closes most campgrounds, though the state park itself stays open year-round for day use, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing.

How to book a campsite
West Side at Cayuga Lake State Park is reserved through the New York State Parks system operated by ReserveAmerica, online or by phone at 1-800-456-2267. Campsites can be booked up to nine months in advance, and same-day reservations are accepted until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival during the operating season. Walk-ins are permitted for campsites only. Cabins, cottages, and yurts must be reserved at least one day ahead and carry longer minimum stays in peak weeks.
Hejamada Campground and RV Park, Sned Acres Family Campgrounds, Rivers Crossing Campground and Marina, and Waterloo/Finger Lakes KOA Holiday are private parks that take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends, plus any date near a holiday, tend to fill weeks or months ahead, so book early for July and August.
What to expect on arrival
Most private RV parks in this area offer 30- and 50-amp electric with water, and either full hookups or a shared dump station. At Cayuga Lake State Park, the East Camp holds the electric sites and sits closest to the lake, while the West Side has non-electric sites and additional cabins across the road. The park has centralized water, restrooms, showers, and a single dump station rather than in-site sewer, and highway noise can carry into some loops.
Cell coverage is generally reliable on both shores. Mosquitoes can be heavy near the water in summer, so pack repellent. A New York State Empire Pass or per-vehicle day-use fee applies at state park facilities, and pets are allowed at most sites with a leash and proof of rabies vaccination.

weather.gov/bgm/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Union Springs?
You're in the perfect place to learn. First time renting an RV? Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, slide-outs, propane, and dumping tanks, and you can text or call them throughout your trip. Most first-timers are cruising confidently by day two.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Union Springs RV rental into Canada or other states?
Yes, cross-border and interstate travel from Union Springs is popular and totally doable with the right host approval. Niagara Falls and the Canadian border are only about 2 hours west, and many hosts allow Canada trips, just message them before booking to confirm and bring your passport. Heading to Vermont (4 hours east), Pennsylvania Wilds (3 hours south), or the Maine coast (8 hours northeast) is also common with no extra paperwork. cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripWhat should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Union Springs?
Fuel is one of your biggest variables, but the math is friendlier than you'd think. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG). New York gas prices average around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon, with a Stewart's or Mirabito in Auburn or Aurora usually cheapest near Union Springs. For a 4-day, 300-mile Finger Lakes loop in a Class C, budget roughly $100 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up before crossing into the Adirondack region, where prices jump 20 to 40 cents per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Union Springs?
For the best campgrounds near Union Springs, earlier is better, especially in summer. New York State Parks (Cayuga Lake, Sampson, Long Point, Taughannock Falls) open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and lakefront RV sites for July and August weekends are often gone within hours of release. Private parks like Sned Acres and Hejamada usually book 2 to 4 months ahead for summer weekends. Shoulder season (May, September, early October) is much more relaxed, with same-week availability common. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the 9-month-out date if you want a Friday or Saturday at Cayuga Lake State Park's East Camp, the lake-view sites are pure gold.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Union Springs?
Driving around Union Springs is about as RV-friendly as it gets in the Northeast. NY Route 90 along Cayuga Lake is a two-lane scenic road with gentle curves and great pull-off views, and US Route 20 and NY Route 5 (the main east-west corridors through Auburn) are wide, well-maintained, and easy in any rig. Watch for narrow village streets in Aurora and a few low-clearance railroad bridges around Auburn (signed at 11 to 12 feet), so check your RV's height at pickup. Winter brings genuine lake-effect snow and ice from November through March, so most renters stick to May through October. Cell coverage is strong on main routes and spotty in Bear Swamp State Forest.

tourcayuga.com/things-to-do/outdoor-recreation/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. Your total includes the nightly rate, the protection plan you choose, taxes, and any add-ons. A refundable security deposit set by the host is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup and released after a successful return. To avoid any deposit issues, take time-stamped photos and a quick video at pickup and again at drop-off, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks if your host requests. Easy, transparent, done.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park overnight in Union Springs if I'm not at a campground?
You've got solid options for where to park an RV in Union Springs beyond traditional campgrounds. Programs like Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome connect RVers with wineries and private landowners across the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail who offer overnight parking, often paired with a tasting. Some retailers in nearby Auburn (about 15 minutes north) may allow a single overnight stay with manager approval, a handy option for arrival night. Always check posted signs and confirm with property managers, and note that overnight street parking is not permitted in the village. Pro tip: a sunset overnight at a lakeside winery just up the Cayuga shoreline is unforgettable.
