Campgrounds and RV parks near Water Mill, NY

Water Mill sits on the South Fork of Long Island, between Southampton and Bridgehampton, roughly two hours east of New York City. RV camping options directly in the hamlet are limited, so most travelers base at nearby state park campgrounds or private RV parks and day-trip into the Hamptons for beaches, farms, and villages. The closest full-service private park is Eastern Long Island Kampground in Greenport, on the North Fork, about an hour north across Peconic Bay. Hither Hills State Park in Montauk is the closest oceanfront state campground on the South Fork, roughly 40 miles east. For travelers approaching from the north or willing to add a ferry or bridge crossing, Hammonasset Beach State Park, Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA, and Rocky Neck State Park on the Connecticut shoreline are all within striking distance via the Cross Sound Ferry from Orient Point. Expect an ocean-influenced coastal setting: dune-backed Atlantic beaches, bay harbors, potato and vineyard country inland, and heavy summer traffic on Route 27 through the Hamptons.

New York state parks, including Hither Hills State Park, are reserved through the New York State Parks system operated by ReserveAmerica. Hither Hills uses a rolling booking window that opens nine months ahead of arrival, and a seven-night minimum applies from mid-June through mid-September. Popular summer weekends can fill within minutes of the window opening, so create an account in advance and log in at the release time. Connecticut state parks, including Hammonasset Beach State Park and Rocky Neck State Park, are booked through the Connecticut DEEP portal on ReserveAmerica, with reservations accepted up to eleven months in advance and a two-night minimum. Niantic/I-95 Exit 72 KOA is booked directly through KOA. Eastern Long Island Kampground takes reservations directly by phone or through its website.
