Camping near West Glens Falls, New York
West Glens Falls sits in the southern Adirondack foothills of Warren County, minutes from the Northway (I-87) and roughly ten miles from Lake George Village. The location puts RV travelers within easy reach of both the Lake George resort corridor and the Saratoga Springs area, so a single basecamp works for beach days, hikes, and city day trips.
Most campgrounds in the area are private RV resorts oriented to families, with a smaller number of state park options offering wooded, dry-camping sites. Lake George Campsites Morgan RV Resorts, Lake George RV Park, and Ledgeview Village RV Park cluster along the Route 9 and Route 149 corridors near Queensbury and Lake George. Sun Retreats Adirondack Gateway sits to the south in Gansevoort, and Moreau Lake State Park sits in the Adirondack foothills just ten miles north of Saratoga Springs, anchoring the state-run option.
RV renters should expect a summer-heavy season, forested terrain, and reservations that fill early for July and August weekends. Winters shut most private parks down entirely.
Things to do near West Glens Falls
Lake George is the dominant draw. Renters can launch kayaks, take steamboat cruises, ride the parasail boats out of the village, or spend a day at The Great Escape amusement and water park just south of the lake. Hiking options range from short family walks up Prospect Mountain to longer routes in the Tongue Mountain Range and around Buck Mountain.
Moreau Lake State Park offers a sandy swimming beach, boat and kayak rentals, and 20+ miles of marked hiking/mountain biking trails used for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing in winter. Activities include boating, fishing, hiking, swimming, sunbathing, bird watching, biking, and wintertime ice fishing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
Saratoga Springs, about 20 minutes south, adds thoroughbred racing in July and August, mineral springs, and a walkable downtown. The Hudson River corridor supplies fishing and paddling closer to camp.

The practical camping season in this part of New York runs from early May through late October. Peak season falls between late June and Labor Day, when private resorts and state park loops are all in operation. Private parks usually open earliest: Lake George Campsites opens May 1, while Lake George RV Park generally opens the second weekend of May.
Moreau Lake State Park follows a shorter public window. The camping season runs mid-May through early November, with Loops B and E closing in early September, so late-season RV renters should plan around loop closures. Spring nights stay cold well into May, and lake water is slow to warm.
Summer weekends, especially around Independence Day and the Americade motorcycle rally in early June, book out weeks in advance. Fall foliage in late September and early October is a strong second peak, with cool nights and quieter campgrounds. Winter camping is limited: most private resorts close, though state park trails stay open for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

How to book campgrounds in the area
State park sites at Moreau Lake are booked through the New York State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival, and reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center. A camping party and their equipment may occupy a site for a maximum of 14 continuous nights, after which the party and equipment must leave the facility for 48 hours before registering again.
Private resorts including Lake George Campsites Morgan RV Resorts, Lake George RV Park, Ledgeview Village RV Park, and Sun Retreats Adirondack Gateway are booked directly through each property's website or call center. Deposits are typically required at booking, and holiday weekends often carry minimum-stay requirements.
For peak summer dates, aim to reserve well in advance at private parks and open the state park 9-month window as early as possible.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in this area lean wooded and shady, with pine and hardwood cover typical of the Adirondack foothills. Private resorts generally offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, dump stations, pools, playgrounds, laundry, and Wi-Fi.
State park sites at Moreau Lake offer dry camping facilities for tents and trailers, with no hookups, but amenities include a beach, boat launch, boat rentals, dumping stations, showers, 20+ trails for hiking and biking, picnic tables, and a playground. Sites accommodate tents and trailers up to 40 feet depending on the specific site, so measure before booking.
Expect biting insects in early summer, black bears in the broader region (store food properly), and cell coverage that thins in wooded loops. Bring layers even in July, since overnight lows in the foothills can drop into the 50s.
