The Art Roscoe area draws mountain bikers in summer and cross-country skiers in winter. Off-park options include fishing and boating on Cuba Lake and Rushford Lake, day trips to the Kinzua Bridge Skywalk and Allegheny National Forest across the Pennsylvania line, and family stops in Bradford such as the Zippo/Case Museum. The Weston Mills area has a four-season climate with cold, snowy winters and comfortable, partly cloudy summers. Most private campgrounds and state campsites operate on a warm-weather schedule. Allegany State Park campsites are typically open from late May until the last weekend in October, with peak season running from the end of June through the end of August. Summer is the busiest window. Weekends around holidays fill early, and the cottages at Allegany, including the Parallel, Bova, and Cain Hollow units, require a seven or fourteen-night minimum stay during peak season. Late September and early October bring fall color through the hemlock and hardwood forests, cooler nights, and lighter crowds, which makes it a strong shoulder-season choice for RV travel. Winter shifts activity to snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing. Allegany State Park has 90 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and 44 winterized cabins, along with some year-round cottages, but tent and standard RV camping is generally not available in the coldest months.

Terrain in the area is hilly and heavily wooded, with narrow valley roads following the Allegheny River and its tributaries. RV drivers should expect winding two-lane approaches into some campgrounds and steeper grades on routes crossing into Pennsylvania. Cell coverage can drop inside Allegany State Park and along forest roads. This is bear country. Food, garbage, coolers, and other containers should not be left unattended at Allegany State Park or at private campgrounds in the surrounding forest, and food storage boxes are provided at park campsites. Hoses cannot be left hooked up to water spigots at Allegany State Park, and a wildlife policy is provided at check-in. Salamanca, about a fifteen-minute drive from the Quaker entrance, is the closest stop for groceries and supplies, with a wider selection available in Olean or in Bradford, Pennsylvania.
