Campgrounds and RV parks near New Boston, OH

New Boston sits along the Ohio River in Scioto County, just east of Portsmouth in southern Ohio. RV travelers use it as a base for the Shawnee State Forest region, one of the largest contiguous forested areas in the state, with river access, wooded ridges, and small lakes within a short drive. Campground options within roughly a half-hour range include Lazy Village Campground and RV Park, Holiday Point Marina and Campground, and Little Bear Island Campground for river- and lake-oriented stays. Big Bear Lake Family Resort caters to families with on-site amenities, and Main - Shawnee State Park anchors the area with a full state-run campground inside Shawnee State Park. Hookup availability, road access for larger rigs, and shade vary by property. Sites near the river tend to be flatter with easier pull-throughs, while Shawnee State Park sites are wooded and hillier. Travelers with slide-outs or trailers over 30 feet should confirm site length and turning radius before booking.

Main - Shawnee State Park is reserved through the Ohio State Parks reservation system at reserveohio.com. Sites can be booked up to six months in advance, and popular summer weekends often sell out shortly after the booking window opens. Private campgrounds including Lazy Village Campground and RV Park, Holiday Point Marina and Campground, Little Bear Island Campground, and Big Bear Lake Family Resort take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Policies on deposits, cancellations, and minimum stays vary by property. For holiday weekends and fall-color weekends, reserve two to three months out. Travelers with larger Class A motorhomes or long fifth-wheels should call ahead to confirm site dimensions, hookup amperage, and road access, since some access roads through the forest are narrow and winding.
