Campgrounds near Confluence, Pennsylvania
Confluence sits in the Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania, where the Youghiogheny River, Casselman River, and Laurel Hill Creek meet. The town is a small trailhead community for the Great Allegheny Passage rail-trail and a short drive from Ohiopyle State Park, one of the busiest recreation areas in the state.
RV renters have several distinct options within a short drive. Yough Lake Campground at Tub Run sits directly on the Youghiogheny River Lake, a reservoir managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and lies roughly a dozen miles from Ohiopyle by way of Sugarloaf Road and Route 281. Ohiopyle State Park itself operates Kentuck Campground, which has over 200 campsites for tents, trailers, and RVs, with many sites offering electric hookups.
Private parks fill out the mix. Scottyland Camping Resort and Scarlett Knob Campground Inc are family-oriented parks in the Rockwood and Ohiopyle corridors, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Mill Run adds a themed, activity-heavy option a short drive north near Mill Run.
Things to do near Confluence
The Youghiogheny River Lake anchors the water-based activities. The swim beach and boat launch at Tub Run provide direct lake access for powerboating, water-skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding, and anglers target smallmouth bass and walleye. Downstream, the Youghiogheny River Gorge provides some of the best whitewater boating in the eastern United States.
On land, the Great Allegheny Passage runs straight through Confluence, giving campers a flat, crushed-limestone route toward Ohiopyle, Rockwood, and Meyersdale. Ohiopyle State Park adds natural waterslides and 27 miles of the Great Allegheny Passage inside the park.
Architecture fans typically pair a camping trip with tours of Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, both operated by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy within a short drive of the campgrounds listed above.

The camping season around Confluence is firmly warm-weather. Yough Lake Campground at Tub Run typically operates from mid-spring through late fall, and Kentuck Campground is open from April to mid-December and requires paid reservations made with Ohiopyle State Park in advance to ensure availability. Winter camping options are limited, and most private resorts scale back or close entirely.
Summer is peak season. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day book out well in advance, especially lakefront and full-hookup sites, and the Ohiopyle rafting outfitters run their busiest schedule. The campground fills quickly due to its popularity and is particularly busy during rafting season and when fall foliage is at its peak. Weekday arrivals give renters a much better shot at prime sites and quieter beaches.
Spring and fall are the shoulder seasons. Spring brings high, cold river flows and blooming rhododendron, while fall delivers strong foliage across the Laurel Highlands ridges, generally peaking in mid-October. Nights turn cold quickly after September, so heated RVs are a real advantage.
How to book a campsite near Confluence
Reservation systems vary by operator. Ohiopyle State Park sites are booked through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system, and reservations must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Popular loops at Kentuck Campground should be targeted early, since summer weekends often clear out the day windows open.
Tub Run offers both first-come, first-served and reservation options, with reserved sites handled through the Corps of Engineers booking channel. Private parks including Scottyland Camping Resort, Scarlett Knob Campground Inc, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Mill Run take reservations directly on their websites or by phone.
RV renters should confirm site length, hookup amperage, and slide-out clearance before booking. Kentuck sites range from walk-in tent spots to 50-amp RV hookups, with a 40-foot vehicle length limit that staff enforce strictly.
What to expect on arrival
Confluence is rural. Cell service is spotty in the river valleys and inside Ohiopyle Gorge, so downloading maps and reservation confirmations before arrival is wise. Grocery runs are easier from Somerset or Uniontown than from Confluence itself.
Drivers of larger rigs should plan the final approach to Kentuck carefully. SR 2019 is very steep and large RVs should avoid this road; take PA 40 to SR 2010 (Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Rd), follow it for eight miles to a stop sign, then go straight to the campground.
Firewood restrictions apply at Corps of Engineers and state park campgrounds in Pennsylvania, aimed at slowing the spread of invasive pests, so campers should plan to buy firewood locally. Pets are generally permitted but must be leashed at all times, and quiet hours are strictly enforced overnight.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Confluence, PA
How much does an RV rental in Confluence, PA typically cost?
An RV rental in Confluence, PA is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Laurel Highlands. On RVezy, travel trailers in the area typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans average $125 to $200, and larger Class C motorhomes run $175 to $300 per night, with seasonal pricing peaking June through August when whitewater season and Great Allegheny Passage cycling traffic are at their busiest. To score a cheap RV rental in Confluence, target mid-week stays in late April, May, September, or October, when nightly rates often drop 20 to 30 percent. Pro tip: filtering by travel trailers (rather than motorized RVs) and asking about weekly discounts on the listing page can save you hundreds on a longer Laurel Highlands trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Confluence%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Confluence, PA?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Confluence, PA. Pennsylvania does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, or fifth wheels available on RVezy. You need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so there is no paperwork shuffle on pickup day. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home-country license. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward Pennsylvania makes it, so you can focus on Yough Lake and Ohiopyle, not red tape.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside assistance are included with my Confluence RV rental?
Every RV rental in Confluence, PA booked through RVezy comes with a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit the back roads to Ohiopyle or Yough Lake with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the vehicle, and you choose the coverage level that fits your trip during the booking process, not the host. If you get a flat on PA-281 heading down to Tub Run or your battery dies at Outflow Campground, one phone call gets help dispatched any time, day or night. It is the kind of safety net that makes a first-time RV trip from Confluence feel a lot less intimidating.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Confluence RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy for every rent-an-RV-in-Confluence reservation, and the refund you receive depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. After the initial booking window, refund amounts step down as your trip approaches, and special circumstances may be reviewed by RVezy support. For full details and current timelines, the RVezy Help Center spells everything out clearly. The takeaway: reserve your summer Yough Lake dates early, because the best motorhome rentals in Confluence book up fast, and you have clear guidance from RVezy if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Confluence, PA?
Yes, and Confluence is a fantastic basecamp for trips with your pup. Many RVezy hosts in the area offer pet-friendly RV rental in Confluence, PA: use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to narrow your search, then message the host to confirm any pet fees before you book. Once you arrive, dogs are welcome on leash at Tub Run Campground, Outflow Campground, and on the Great Allegheny Passage trail that runs right through town, where you can walk leashed dogs along the Youghiogheny River for miles. Ohiopyle State Park, about 12 miles away, also permits leashed pets on most trails and in designated camping loops at Kentuck Campground.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/OhiopyleStatePark/Pages/default.aspxCan I get an RV delivered to my campsite in Confluence?
Yes, RV delivery in Confluence is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you are new to RVing or flying into Pittsburgh. Many RVezy hosts will drop the RV right at your reserved site at Tub Run Campground, Outflow Campground, or Kentuck Campground inside Ohiopyle State Park, level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through the systems before they leave. That means no towing, no backing into a tight wooded site, and no figuring out the awning on your own. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see which hosts deliver to your chosen campground, and ask about the delivery fee upfront. Pro tip: delivery is gold if you are tackling Confluence's winding rural roads for the first time.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Confluence%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does mileage work, and can I find an RV rental with unlimited mileage from Confluence?
You have flexibility: hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, and on a Confluence RV trip you will find everything from generous daily allowances (typically 100 to 150 miles per day) to RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal if you are planning a longer road trip from Confluence to Pittsburgh (about 75 miles), Cumberland, MD (about 60 miles), or Deep Creek Lake (about 35 miles). The mileage policy is clearly shown on every listing page before you book, so there are no surprises. If you are sticking close (Yough Lake, Ohiopyle, and Fallingwater are all within about 15 miles), even a low-mileage listing will be plenty. Heading farther afield? Filter for unlimited mileage and message the host to confirm your route works.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Confluence%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Confluence, PA for an RV?
Confluence is surrounded by some of the best campgrounds in southwestern Pennsylvania. Tub Run Campground (managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Youghiogheny River Lake) offers electric RV sites, a boat launch, and a swim beach. Outflow Campground, also operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers just south of town, offers electric RV sites, hot showers, and a dump station. Twelve miles away, Kentuck Campground inside Ohiopyle State Park has roughly 200 sites with electric hookups and accommodates many larger rigs. Pro tip: large RVs heading toward Kentuck should plan their route carefully, as some direct local roads are steep and narrow; using US 40 to the Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road area is generally easier.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/233679When is the best time of year for RV camping in Confluence, PA?
Confluence is a true four-season destination, but the sweet spot for RV camping in Confluence is late May through mid-October. Summer highs reach the upper 70s to mid-80s with cool mountain evenings dipping into the 50s and 60s, perfect sleeping weather inside an RV. June is peak whitewater rafting on the Lower Yough, while late September and early October bring spectacular Laurel Highlands fall foliage along the Great Allegheny Passage. Winters get cold (lows in the teens and 20s, with snow common December through March), and most local campgrounds, including Tub Run and Outflow, close from late fall to spring. Local insider tip: book a shoulder-season trip in early to mid-October for peak color with thinner crowds at Cucumber Falls and Ohiopyle Falls.
weather.gov/pbz/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Confluence?
You will do great, especially in Confluence, where the roads are scenic and lightly trafficked compared to a major metro. If it is your first time renting an RV, start with a smaller travel trailer or Class B campervan, which handle the winding sections of PA-281 and nearby rural roads easily. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through propane, water, electric, slide-outs, and dumping, so you are never left guessing. You can also message hosts before booking with any questions. Pro tip for Confluence: avoid the steepest direct routes to Kentuck Campground in a large RV, and instead use US 40 and the Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road corridor. Many guests opt for delivery on their first trip and skip the driving entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Confluence, PA booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you blow a tire on PA-281, lose power at Tub Run, or need a tow on the way back from Ohiopyle, one phone call gets help rolling. Your host is also your first call for questions about their specific RV (like where the second propane valve is, or how the awning locks), and most Confluence-area hosts respond within minutes. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Local tip: cell service can be spotty in the deep river gorges near Ohiopyle Falls, so save your host's number and the roadside number to your phone before you leave town.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip destinations from Confluence, PA?
Confluence is a brilliant launchpad for an RV road trip from Confluence into the Laurel Highlands and beyond. Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater is about 15 miles north on PA-381, a must-see even if you have seen the photos a hundred times. Ohiopyle State Park's whitewater and waterfalls are about 12 miles away. Cumberland, MD sits about 60 miles south at the other end of the Great Allegheny Passage. Deep Creek Lake, MD is roughly a 35-mile drive for boating and dining. Pittsburgh is about 75 miles northwest for a city day with PNC Park or the Strip District. Heading farther? Cross-state trips into Maryland and West Virginia are typically allowed on RVezy (confirm with your host), while travel into Mexico is not permitted due to insurance coverage limits.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Confluence RV trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger line items, but Confluence is forgiving because most of the marquee attractions sit within 15 miles of town. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class C motorhome, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class B campervan, and 12 to 16 MPG for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Pennsylvania gas prices in the Confluence and Somerset County area typically run a bit above the national average, so budget accordingly and top off in town before heading to Yough Lake, where the nearest stations are limited. Pro tip: the stations in Confluence and nearby Markleysburg are your friend; once you are deep into Ohiopyle State Park, fuel options get sparse.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Confluence?
For peak weekends (Memorial Day through Labor Day, and prime fall foliage in early October), aim to reserve your campsite 4 to 6 months ahead. Outflow Campground and Tub Run Campground are reserved through Recreation.gov, while Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle State Park books through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system up to 11 months in advance. Holiday weekends at Corps of Engineers parks often require a multi-night minimum, so plan accordingly. Mid-week stays in May, September, or October are often bookable just a week or two out. Pro tip: if everything looks full, check daily for cancellations early in the morning, or message your RVezy host about RV delivery to a private campsite in the Confluence area, which can have space when the larger Corps of Engineers parks do not.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/233679What are driving conditions like around Confluence?
Confluence sits in a beautiful but winding pocket of the Laurel Highlands, so a little awareness goes a long way. PA-281 and PA-523, the main routes into town, are paved two-lane roads with curves, occasional steep grades, and bridge crossings over the Casselman and Youghiogheny rivers. Some direct local roads up to Kentuck Campground are too steep and narrow for large RVs, so route via US 40 and the Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road corridor instead. Watch for cyclists on the Great Allegheny Passage crossings, white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk, and occasional fog along the river valleys. In winter, snow and black ice are common from December through March. Pro tip: drive into Confluence in daylight your first time so you can scout your route back.
511pa.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Confluence?
Confluence-area campgrounds are well equipped for RVs. Tub Run Campground (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) offers electric sites, water, a dump station, hot showers, and flush toilets. Outflow Campground (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) has electric sites, drinking water, showers, and a dump station. Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle State Park has electric hookups, washhouses, and a sanitary dump station. If you need to dump or refill water mid-trip, both Tub Run and Outflow have public dump stations, and Kentuck's is open to registered campers. Local insider tip: Pennsylvania has firewood restrictions to prevent the spread of pests, so plan to buy firewood locally at the campground or from approved nearby vendors.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/233679What features do most RV rentals in Confluence come with?
You will be comfortable. Most RV rentals in Confluence, PA, whether a Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, or fifth wheel, come standard with sleeping for 2 to 8, a kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelts for travel. Many also include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, and a built-in generator or shore-power setup. Wifi typically comes via your phone hotspot, since campground wifi at places like Tub Run is limited. Outdoor showers, slide-outs, awnings, and bike racks (perfect for the Great Allegheny Passage) are common upgrades. Each listing on RVezy shows the exact features and bed configuration, plus host photos, so you will know exactly what you are getting before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Confluence%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat popular add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Confluence hosts on RVezy offer add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include bike rentals or racks (the Great Allegheny Passage runs right through town and is the area's top draw), camping chairs and outdoor mats, linens and kitchen kits, generators, propane refills, and pet-cleaning fees if you are bringing a dog. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Confluence, but delivery to Tub Run, Outflow, or Kentuck Campground is widely available, usually for a flat fee based on distance. Pickup and dropoff times are flexible and set by the host on the listing page. Pro tip: ask your host to include a paddleboard or kayak rack, as Yough Lake's calm waters are perfect for paddling.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Confluence%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your Confluence RV rental on RVezy, you pay the rental total (nightly rate, fees, and any add-ons) through the platform with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held before the trip and released after the RV is returned in the same condition. The exact deposit amount varies by listing and is clearly shown on the booking page before you confirm. To avoid any issues, do a quick walkthrough video at pickup and dropoff with your host (most appreciate this), follow the mileage and generator policies on the listing, and return the RV with the fuel level you received. Pro tip: messaging your host through the RVezy platform keeps everything documented in one place.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs Confluence good for a family RV trip?
Confluence is one of the best family RV trip destinations in Pennsylvania. The combo of swimming at Yough Lake, the natural waterslides at Meadow Run, easy bike rides on the flat Great Allegheny Passage (kids love the bridges over the Casselman and Youghiogheny rivers), and Ohiopyle State Park keeps every age group happy. Tub Run and Outflow campgrounds both have family-friendly sites, and many RVezy listings sleep 6 to 8, so cousins and grandparents can come along. Local insider tip: book a guided family float trip on the Middle Yough (gentle Class I-II rapids) through an Ohiopyle outfitter, then grab ice cream back in Confluence; it is a perfect day every kid will remember.
