Camping near Knox, Pennsylvania
Knox sits in Clarion County in northwestern Pennsylvania, just off Interstate 80 at Exit 53. The town is small and rural, but it works well as a base for RV travelers because it puts several private campgrounds and two major state parks within an easy drive. Cook Forest State Park encompasses 8,500 acres in northwestern Pennsylvania and is renowned for its Forest Cathedral, a National Natural Landmark featuring towering old-growth white pines and hemlocks. The Clarion River connects Cook Forest to Clear Creek State Park along a scenic stretch popular for canoeing and rafting.
RV travelers have a mix of options close to Knox itself. Wolfs Camping Resort and Quiet Acres Camping are both near the Knox borough, while Rustic Acres RV Resort & Campground sits on 24 wooded acres in Western Pennsylvania near the Clarion River and over 3,000 acres of State Game Lands. Gaslight Campgrounds and Penn Wood Airstream Park round out the local list.
The region falls within the Pennsylvania Wilds and offers access to state game lands, the Allegheny National Forest to the north, and the North Country Trail.
Things to do near Knox
Water recreation centers on the Clarion River, which flows through Cook Forest State Park and connects downstream to Clear Creek State Park. Rentals for canoes, kayaks, and tubes are available near the park, and the river is calm enough for family paddling on most summer days.
On land, the Forest Cathedral in Cook Forest is a National Natural Landmark featuring towering old-growth white pines and hemlocks. Hikers can also pick up the North Country Trail, which passes through the region. Anglers fish stocked trout streams in spring, and Foxburg, roughly 10 miles west, is known for its historic golf course and scenic rail trails.

Late May through early September is peak season. Sites at the private resorts fill quickly on Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day weekends, and the state park reservation window opens 11 months out. Fall brings hardwood color across the Allegheny Plateau, usually peaking in early to mid-October, with cooler nights.
Winter camping is limited. In the case of freezing temperatures, shower houses #3 and #4 will be closed at Cook Forest, and most private parks near Knox shut hookups down.
How to book a site
Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance for most state park and state forest overnight stays. Reservations for staying overnight in state parks and forests can be made using the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday, from 7:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. except on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival.
Private campgrounds around Knox take reservations directly through their own websites. At Wolfs Camping Resort, guests must be 21 years old to rent sites and rental units, and a service charge applies on canceled reservations. Book holiday weekends early, as private resorts in the area fill quickly.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Knox, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Knox, PA?
RV rental in Knox is one of the best values in western Pennsylvania, with most travel trailers starting around $85 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $150 to $275 per night on RVezy. Because Knox sits just off Interstate 80 at Exit 60, you skip big-city pricing from Pittsburgh or Erie while staying minutes from Cook Forest State Park. To find a cheap RV rental in Knox, book midweek, travel in May or September, and use the price filter on RVezy. Hosts often discount weekly stays, so a 5 to 7 night Knox RV trip can lower your nightly rate significantly.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Knox%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Knox, PA?
Good news: for almost every RV rental in Knox, PA, your regular Class C Pennsylvania driver's license (or equivalent from your home state or country) is all you need. PennDOT only requires a non-commercial Class B license if the motorhome's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) exceeds 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of campervans, travel trailers, and Class C motorhomes on RVezy fall well under that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we'll verify your ID through the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club before you fly, and you're ready to hit I-80.
pa.gov/agencies/dmv/driver-services/licenses-and-photo-ids/license-types-restrictionsIs the RV protected if something goes wrong on my trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Knox booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can relax and enjoy the Allegheny foothills. During checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip, and the plan covers most accidental damage to the vehicle. You pick your coverage, not the host. That means if a deer wanders onto Route 338 at dusk or a branch falls during a Clarion County thunderstorm, you are not facing the repair bill alone. Book with confidence and focus on the campfire instead.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change? Can I cancel my Knox RV rental?
Booking an RV rental in Knox is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not the host, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book. Life happens: a spring snowstorm rolls through the Pennsylvania Wilds, a kid gets the flu, or work shifts. RVezy's policy factors in how far out your trip is and major events like natural disasters that might affect the Clarion County area. You can review the full cancellation details during checkout and in your RVezy account, so the dates you want today come with flexibility built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from Knox?
Yes, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Knox, PA are ready for your four-legged co-pilot. On RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to see hosts who welcome dogs, and message them with your pup's size and breed for a smooth booking. Once you're rolling, Cook Forest State Park allows leashed pets at designated campsites for a small fee, and Clear Creek State Park (about 25 minutes east) has miles of dog-friendly hiking trails along the creek. Rustic Acres RV Resort in nearby Shippenville is also a popular pet-welcoming stop. Pro tip: pack a long leash, a collapsible water bowl, and a tick check routine because the Pennsylvania Wilds are deer (and tick) country.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/cook-forest-state-park/stayCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Knox?
Yes, RV delivery in Knox is widely available and it is hands-down the easiest way to start your trip, especially for first-timers. Many RVezy hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to Cook Forest State Park's Ridge Campground or Wolf's Camping Resort, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just filter for Delivery on RVezy and check the host's delivery radius and fee. Delivery is a smart move if you are flying into Pittsburgh International Airport (about 90 miles south) and would rather not tow a rig up I-80.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038070234-RV-deliveryHow far can I drive on a Knox RV trip?
You can go as far as you'd like, and Knox is a fantastic launchpad because it sits right on Interstate 80 (I-80). Popular drives from Knox include Cook Forest State Park (20 minutes), Presque Isle State Park on Lake Erie (about 70 miles north), Kinzua Bridge State Park (about 60 miles northeast), Allegheny National Forest (45 minutes north), and Pittsburgh (about 90 miles south). Clear Creek State Park in Sigel is another peaceful option about 25 miles east. Book early for fall foliage weekends.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/cook-forest-state-park/stayWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Knox?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for an RV road trip from Knox, with the sweet spot in late September through mid-October when the Allegheny hardwoods turn red, orange, and gold. Summer highs in the Knox area average in the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit, perfect for paddling the Clarion River, while spring and fall nights cool into the 40s and 50s, so pack layers and enjoy the furnace. Knox's Horsethief Days festival on Main Street is a fun late-summer stop. Winter is quieter as most campgrounds close, though a few hosts rent winter-ready rigs for snowy Cook Forest getaways.
weather.gov/ctp/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You've got this, and Knox is a great place for first time renting an RV. The roads around Clarion County are wide, rural, and well-maintained, with I-80 offering an easy straight shot east or west. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at your campsite if you choose delivery), walking you through the generator, water systems, slide-outs, and dump procedure. You can message your host before booking, and RVezy customer support plus 24/7 roadside assistance has your back the entire trip. Pro tip: practice a few right turns and backing maneuvers in an empty lot before heading to camp.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every RV rental in Knox through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 338 or a dead battery at Cook Forest is a phone call away from being fixed. You'll get the roadside number with your booking confirmation, plus your host's direct contact for RV-specific questions like resetting the generator. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: cell service can be spotty deep inside Cook Forest State Park, so screenshot your roadside number and host contact before you lose bars.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most Knox RV rentals, so a road trip from Knox to New York's Allegany State Park, Ohio's Lake Erie shore, or West Virginia's Coopers Rock is totally doable. Pittsburgh is about 90 miles south, Niagara Falls is roughly 3.5 hours north, and Washington D.C. is a scenic 5-hour drive. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed by some hosts depending on their insurance coverage, so message the listing directly to confirm before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Confirm your route with your host and enjoy the open road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Knox RV trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but Knox keeps it manageable. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a touch above the national average, and most Class C motorhomes you'll rent near Knox get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), while smaller campervans and Class B rigs can hit 14 to 18 MPG. For a 300-mile loop hitting Cook Forest, Kinzua Bridge, and back to Knox, budget roughly $90 to $150 in fuel for a Class C. Fill up at the Sheetz or GetGo right off I-80 Exit 53 in Knox before heading north into Forest County, where stations get sparse. Diesel pushers will be more efficient but pricier per gallon.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxHow far in advance should I book a campground near Knox?
For the best campgrounds near Knox, PA, aim to reserve as soon as you lock in your RV dates, especially for summer weekends and fall foliage season. Cook Forest State Park accepts reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system (call 888-PA-PARKS or book online), and prime fall weekends sell out fast. Private parks like Wolf's Camping Resort and Rustic Acres in Shippenville also book up early for holiday weekends. Aim for 3 to 6 months ahead for July, August, and October. Pro tip: midweek arrivals are easier to snag and quieter, perfect for soaking in the Clarion River.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/cook-forest-state-park/stayWhat are the local driving conditions like around Knox?

The town sits just off Interstate 80, a wide four-lane highway, and surrounding routes like PA-66, PA-338, and PA-208 are gently rolling country roads through farmland and forest. You'll encounter some hills heading into Cook Forest and the Allegheny National Forest, but no white-knuckle mountain passes. Watch for white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk, occasional Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on backroads, and winter snow squalls from November through March. Pro tip: avoid narrow forest road shortcuts on your GPS and stick to numbered state routes for clearance and comfort.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Knox?

Wolf's Camping Resort in Knox accepts big rigs and has 92-plus pull-throughs, a pool, and full amenities. Quiet Acres on Coulter Road has 20/50 amp electric, water, and sewer at every site. For dumping and freshwater between stops, the dump station at Cook Forest is publicly available during the camping season. Pro tip: fill your fresh tank before heading into Allegheny National Forest where boondocking sites have no hookups.

Many motorhome rental Knox listings also include a generator for boondocking, a TV, and outdoor speakers for the campfire. WiFi is hit-or-miss in the Pennsylvania Wilds, so don't count on streaming inside Cook Forest. Each RVezy listing shows exactly what's included, and hosts often throw in linens and kitchenware.

Knox hosts make customizing your trip easy. Popular add-ons on RVezy include camping chairs and tables, bedding and towel packages, generators, propane fills, kayaks and bikes, kitchen kits, and pet packages, with fees typically ranging from $10 to $75 per item. Pickup is usually at the host's location in or near Knox just off I-80, though many hosts offer delivery to Cook Forest, Wolf's Camping Resort, or your driveway for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, with daily allowances often between 100 and 150 miles plus options to prepay extra. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking, it is usually cheaper than adding them later.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Knox%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and secure on RVezy. You'll pay your rental total through the platform when you book using a credit card or supported payment method, never directly to the host, which keeps everything tracked and protected. A refundable security deposit is held separately before pickup (amounts vary by host and RV type, typically $500 to $1,500) and is released after the trip once the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a thorough walk-around video with your host at pickup and dropoff, follow the mileage and generator policies, and return with the same fuel and propane levels.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a family RV trip from Knox a good idea?
Knox is a dream base for a family RV trip, especially if your crew loves the outdoors. Within an easy drive you've got Cook Forest State Park's Forest Cathedral of towering old-growth white pines (kids love the Seneca Point fire tower), the Kinzua Sky Walk over Kinzua Gorge (about 60 miles northeast), Drake Well Museum in Titusville (about 35 miles, birthplace of the modern oil industry), and tubing or kayaking the gentle Clarion River. Knox's Horsethief Days festival in late summer is pure small-town Americana. Filter family-friendly rigs that sleep 6 or more on RVezy, add delivery, and you've got a stress-free vacation locked in.
