Campgrounds and RV parks near Latrobe, PA

Keystone Lake anchors most on-site activity at the closest state park, with warm and cold water fishing available under Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission regulations, plus a swimming beach and paddling on non-powered boats. Trails at the park are open year-round for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, and Keystone State Park offers a variety of programs from March through November. Beyond the park, Latrobe puts RV travelers within reach of Idlewild and Soak Zone amusement park, Ohiopyle State Park and the Youghiogheny River for whitewater, Fallingwater, and ski resorts like Seven Springs and Hidden Valley that convert to hiking and mountain biking in summer. Mountain Pines Campground in nearby Champion adds on-site activities for families that prefer to base their day around the campground.

Keystone State Park's campground is open seasonally from early April through mid-October, and showers may be unavailable after October 1. Modern cabins remain available year-round for travelers extending shoulder-season trips. Private campgrounds in the area generally follow a similar April to late-October window, with some sites open year-round. Summer is the busiest stretch, and weekends and holidays fill fastest at the state park. A two-night minimum applies to weekend reservations during the summer, with a 14-night stay maximum. Fall brings cooler nights, strong foliage across the Laurel Highlands ridges, and thinner crowds, making late September and early October a practical target for RV renters who want reservations without competing for peak-summer inventory. One planning note: Keystone Lake is scheduled to be drawn down after Labor Day for dredging work at the head end of the lake, the swimming area will be closed the following season, fishing and boating will be permitted with caution due to exposed silt, and all recreation trails, campground, and cabins will remain open.

The Latrobe area is rolling and wooded, with campgrounds tucked into forested settings rather than open plains. Sites at Keystone State Park range from lakeside loops to more remote wooded loops. Full hookup sites accommodate RVs with electric, water, and sewer connections, while primitive sites serve tent campers and those preferring simpler setups. Travelers who need full water and sewer at every pad should confirm site type at booking or look to the private parks in the region. Cell service is unpredictable in and around many Pennsylvania State Parks, and coverage can drop off inside campground loops and on ridge roads. Summer thunderstorms are common, black bears live in the Laurel Highlands, and food storage rules apply. Weekday arrivals are usually calmer, especially at family-focused parks that program activities around weekends.
