Campgrounds and RV parks near Lawson Heights, PA

Keystone State Park anchors the outdoor options with a lake for warm and cold-water fishing, a swimming beach open in summer, boat rentals, and a network of trails used for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing depending on the season. Gas-powered boats are prohibited on Keystone Lake, and non-powered or electric boats need a current registration or a Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission launch permit. The broader Laurel Highlands region includes Ohiopyle State Park with whitewater on the Youghiogheny River, Idlewild and Soak Zone family park, Seven Springs Mountain Resort, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. Downtown Pittsburgh and its museums, sports venues, and restaurants sit under an hour west, making it easy to mix outdoor days with a city stop.

Keystone State Park's camping season runs from the first Friday in April through the third Sunday of October, so state-park RV camping is not available in winter. Shower facilities may not be available after October 1, while modern cabins remain available year-round. Private parks in the area typically operate transient RV sites from spring through fall, with some seasonal sites open longer. Summer weekends and holidays fill fastest at Keystone State Park, and Pennsylvania State Parks recommend booking well in advance for peak dates. Spring and early fall offer cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong fishing and hiking conditions across the Laurel Highlands. One planning note: Keystone Lake is scheduled for a multi-year drawdown for dredging that begins after Labor Day and continues into the following year's mid-October. During that window the swimming area will be closed for a full season, and boating and fishing are still permitted but campers should expect exposed silt in the lakebed. Trails, campground, and cabins remain open.

At Lakeside - Keystone State Park, expect two loops, Lakeside and Hillside, with a mix of tent and trailer sites, some electric hookups including 20-, 30-, and 50-amp service at select sites, modern bathhouses, and a sanitary dump station. Hillside is the designated pet-friendly loop, and ADA-accessible sites with paved pads accommodate larger rigs. Yurts and camping cottages are also available for travelers without their own rig. Private parks in the area lean toward family-resort amenities, with swimming pools, fishing ponds, playgrounds, laundry, and camp stores common. Laurel Highlands Camplands LLC sits just off the PA Turnpike, and Fox Den Acres Campgrounds in the New Stanton area is a short drive from Pittsburgh.
