Campgrounds near Loyalhanna
Loyalhanna sits in Westmoreland County in Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands, roughly an hour east of Pittsburgh. The village lies along the Loyalhanna Creek between Latrobe and Ligonier, with quick access to US 30, PA 981, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) at the Donegal exit. That road network makes it a practical staging point for RV travelers touring southwestern Pennsylvania.
Camping options range from a state park to private RV resorts. About 100 tent and trailer sites are available from early April to mid-October at Keystone State Park, with Lakeside Campground adjacent to the lake. Private options within a short drive include Donegal Campground, Laurel Highlands Camplands LLC, Mirror Lake RV Camping and Fishing, and Mountain Pines Campground.
Located less than an hour from downtown Pittsburgh, Keystone State Park offers 1,200 acres to explore. Ohiopyle State Park, Fallingwater, Idlewild & SoakZone, and Seven Springs are all within day-trip range.
Things to do near Loyalhanna
Water recreation centers on Keystone Lake and the region's creeks. The 78-acre Keystone Lake offers year-round fishing under Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission regulations, with catfish, panfish, and muskellunge, plus trout stocked several times a year. Lake Side Trail is a 2-mile loop around the lake, excellent for bikes on park roads and walkways.
The park offers trails open year-round for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, including the 1.4-mile Stone Lodge Trail through hardwoods to ridge-top conifers and the 2.5-mile Davis Run Trail.
Off-park draws include Fort Ligonier, downtown Ligonier's shops, Idlewild & SoakZone for families, and whitewater on the Youghiogheny River at Ohiopyle. Nearby ski resorts appeal to winter sports enthusiasts looking for professional slopes.

The main camping season runs spring through fall. About 100 tent and trailer sites are available from early April to mid-October, with Lakeside Campground adjacent to the lake and Hillside Campground in a more remote area that accommodates pets. A sanitary dump station is available, and shower facilities may not be available after October 1.
Private parks vary. Laurel Highlands Campland hosts RVs, fifth wheels, and campers from April through November, with permanent sites available year-round. Donegal Campground is open mid-March through November. Mountain Pines Campground and Mirror Lake generally operate through the warm months, so confirming dates before booking is essential.
Keystone Lake is scheduled to be drawn down after Labor Day through mid-October the following year for dredging work; the swimming area will be closed for the following season, though fishing and boating remain permitted with caution and all trails, campground and cabins remain open. Winter access continues at some private campgrounds and modern cabins, but expect snow and icy roads on the ridges.

How to book near Loyalhanna
State park sites are handled through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system. Reservations at Keystone State Park must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Bookings can be made online or by calling toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday.
Booking well in advance is advisable for summer weekends and holidays, and when reserving campers can choose between the Hillside Loop, which allows pets, or the Lakeside Loop.
Private parks such as Donegal Campground, Laurel Highlands Camplands LLC, Mirror Lake RV Camping and Fishing, and Mountain Pines Campground book directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends fill first, so call ahead to confirm site length, hookup amperage, and pull-through availability for larger rigs.
What to expect on site
Expect a mix of state-park simplicity and private-resort amenities. Both Keystone campgrounds have a modern bathhouse, a sanitary dump station is available, and campground host sites include 20, 30, or 50-amp electric service. Modern cabins are also available to rent year-round.
Private parks lean toward full-hookup convenience. Donegal Campground has roughly 40 campsites, most providing full hookups that support 30/50 amp electrics, with spacious pull-through sites for big rigs. Laurel Highlands Campland offers full hookups on all sites with both 30 and 50 amp service, a dump station, and a swimming pool.
Cell service is unpredictable in and around many Pennsylvania State Parks, so downloading the park map before a visit is recommended. Terrain in the Laurel Highlands is hilly, so plan grades and turning room for tow vehicles and larger motorhomes.

The amount refunded after that depends on how close you are to your trip start date. You'll see the exact terms during checkout before you pay. That makes it ideal if you're new to towing or just want a stress-free start to your Loyalhanna RV trip. Just use the Delivery filter when searching, and enter the destination address to see live pricing. Pro tip: book delivery to Keystone State Park and you can skip backing into a site entirely on your first night.

recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/272174When is the best time of year for a Loyalhanna RV trip?
Loyalhanna shines from late April through late October, with two true sweet spots. Mid-May to mid-June brings 70-degree days, blooming rhododendron in Forbes State Forest, and quieter campgrounds. Late September through mid-October delivers spectacular Laurel Highlands fall foliage, crisp 55 to 70 degree days, and Fort Ligonier Days (the second weekend of October) with a parade, battle reenactments, and a craft fair. Summer averages 80 to 85 degrees with humid afternoons, perfect for Loyalhanna Lake paddling. Winters are cold (20 to 40 degrees) with snow, but Laurel Mountain skiing makes for a fun cold-weather Loyalhanna RV trip if your rental has a winterized water system. Pro tip: book leaf-peeper weekends in September at least three months ahead.
weather.gov/pbz/I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know what I'm doing?
Yes, and Loyalhanna is one of the friendliest places in Pennsylvania to be a first-time RV renter. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the water system, propane, generator, slide-outs, leveling, and safe driving tips. You can also message your host before booking with any questions, and they're often happy to share favorite Laurel Highlands routes. First time renting an RV? Choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a travel trailer with delivery to Bush Recreation Area so you can skip towing on day one. Pro tip: arrive at pickup an hour earlier than you think you need, then take notes or short videos during the walkthrough to reference later at camp.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if my RV breaks down on the road?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on U.S. Route 30 outside Ligonier, run out of propane near Loyalhanna Lake, or need a tow off the Pennsylvania Turnpike, help is one phone number away. Your host is also a great first call for quirky rig-specific questions, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: as soon as you pick up the RV, save the roadside assistance number and your host's number to your phone's favorites so you never have to dig for them in the dark at a Laurel Highlands pullout.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV out of Pennsylvania or across the U.S./Canada border?
Yes, most hosts welcome interstate travel, which makes a campervan rental Loyalhanna trip an easy springboard to West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and New York. A popular swing is south to Coopers Rock State Forest in West Virginia (about 90 miles) or east to Rocky Gap State Park in Maryland (about 100 miles). Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and the insurance terms, so message the host from the listing page before booking to confirm. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: bring your passport even for a short Niagara Falls detour, since border officers will ask for it at the bridge crossings.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel during my Loyalhanna RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest cost after the rental itself, but it's easy to estimate. Class B campervans average 16 to 20 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A rigs 6 to 10 mpg. As of 2026, Pennsylvania regular unleaded hovers around $3.40 to $3.80 per gallon, with diesel slightly higher. A typical 300-mile Laurel Highlands loop from Loyalhanna to Ohiopyle, Fallingwater, and back in a Class C will burn roughly $90 to $130 in gas. Pro tip: Sheetz and GetGo stations along U.S. Route 30 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike usually beat highway-exit prices, and the GasBuddy app is excellent for finding the cheapest pump near Ligonier or Latrobe.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I reserve a campground near Loyalhanna?
Book early and you'll lock in the best spots. Bush Recreation Area at Loyalhanna Lake takes reservations through Recreation.gov six months in advance, and weekend hookup sites disappear within hours for summer holidays. Pennsylvania state park sites at Keystone, Linn Run, and Laurel Hill are reservable up to 11 months ahead through the DCNR reservation system, and Fort Ligonier Days weekend (early October) typically sells out by July. Private RV parks like Madison/Pittsburgh S.E. KOA and Fox Den Acres book up by April for prime summer dates. Pro tip: if you strike out, set a cancellation alert in The Dyrt or check Recreation.gov daily around 9 a.m., when overnight cancellations get released.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/state-parks/camping-and-lodging.htmlWhat's it like to drive an RV around Loyalhanna and the Laurel Highlands?
Driving here is genuinely manageable, even for newcomers. U.S. Route 30 (the Lincoln Highway) is a wide, well-maintained two- to four-lane road connecting Latrobe, Loyalhanna, and Ligonier, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) is RV-friendly with plenty of pull-offs. The one stretch to drive thoughtfully is the Loyalhanna Gorge section of Route 30 between Latrobe and Ligonier, where the road hugs the creek with curves and rock walls. Take it slow, and you'll be fine. Avoid narrow tertiary roads through Forbes State Forest in a big Class A. Pro tip: fall foliage traffic peaks Sundays in October, so plan your return on a Monday morning to avoid the crawl back toward Pittsburgh.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Loyalhanna?
You'll find everything from rustic to resort. Bush Recreation Area at Loyalhanna Lake offers flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, a dump station, picnic tables, and fire rings, with 12 sites featuring water and electric hookups for larger RVs. Keystone State Park has electric sites, modern restrooms, a swim beach, and a sanitary dump station. Private parks like Madison/Pittsburgh S.E. KOA and Fox Den Acres add full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and propane refills. Need a mid-trip dump and fill? Both Bush Recreation Area and Keystone State Park allow non-campers to use the dump station for a small fee. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground, since potable spigots are rare along Route 30 pull-offs.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/272174What's actually inside the RVs available to rent in Loyalhanna?
More than you might expect. Most RV rental in Loyalhanna, PA listings include a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk beds, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Many include a TV, and some hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, or starter kits with linens. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities section and message the host to confirm specifics like generator hours, Wi-Fi data caps, and whether a coffee maker is included so you know exactly what to pack.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons can I get with my Loyalhanna RV rental?
Hosts make it easy to customize. Popular add-ons for an RV rental Pennsylvania travelers love include linen and bedding packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), camp chairs and outdoor rugs ($15 to $40), bike racks, generators, propane refills, and pet cleaning fees ($25 to $75) for a pet-friendly RV rental Loyalhanna trip. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup at Bush Recreation Area or Keystone State Park for a flat fee, plus optional dump/cleaning services so you can hand back the keys without lifting a sewer hose. Pickup and dropoff windows are listed on each listing and usually run 1 p.m. check-in and 11 a.m. check-out. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking; it's almost always cheaper than adding them later.
visitpa.com/region/laurel-highlandsHow do payments and security deposits work on RVezy?
It's straightforward and secure. You pay for your RV rental Loyalhanna booking directly through RVezy with a credit or debit card, never in cash to the host, which protects both sides. A security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before the trip and is released after the RV is returned in the same condition it left, typically within a few days of drop-off. The exact deposit amount is shown on each listing before you book, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: walk around the RV with your host at both pickup and return and take time-stamped photos or a quick video. It's the single best way to keep your full deposit and finish your Laurel Highlands trip smiling.
