Campgrounds near Patton, Pennsylvania
Patton is a small borough in northern Cambria County, Pennsylvania, on the western slope of the Allegheny Front. It sits at roughly 1,600 feet of elevation in a forested region of ridges, creeks, and reclaimed coal country, giving RV travelers a cool-summer base for lake recreation and trail riding within reach of Altoona, Johnstown, and State College.
The area sits close to Glendale Lake and the surrounding Allegheny Plateau, with a mix of private and state-park camping. Glendale Valley Campground and Weimers RV 764 Campground / Scott$ Arcade serve travelers looking for private-park amenities close to town, while Wrights Orchard Station Campground offers a more rural setting on the plateau.
Rock Run Recreation Area draws off-road riders to a large private trail system, and Blue Knob State Park lies southeast in Bedford County on Pennsylvania's second-highest mountain, adding high-elevation forest camping to the mix. Together the cluster covers lake access, ATV country, and quiet backroad sites within a short drive of Patton.
Things to do around Patton
Water recreation in the area centers on Glendale Lake, a 1,635-acre reservoir with about 26 miles of shoreline that supports boating, fishing, kayaking, and swimming. Boaters can bring their own craft, with electric motors permitted up to 20 horsepower, and designated swimming is at Muskrat Beach on the day-use side of the lake.
On land, the surrounding public lands support hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and hunting on nearby state game lands, with deer, turkey, and small game the main targets. Rock Run Recreation Area caters to ATV, dirt-bike, and side-by-side riders on a large private trail network with an event calendar through the warmer months.
Blue Knob State Park adds high-elevation hiking on Pennsylvania's second-highest mountain, and the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site is a short drive southeast for a rainy-day option.

The RV season in this part of the Alleghenies is largely tied to the state-park calendar. The main state-park campground on Glendale Lake operates from the second Friday in April through the last Monday in October, with tent, trailer, and cabin options across multiple loops. Blue Knob State Park's campground also runs on a warm-season schedule, opening in spring and closing in late fall.
Summer is peak season for lake use, beach days at Muskrat Beach, and weekend trail events at Rock Run Recreation Area. Fall brings cooler nights, hardwood color across the plateau, and active hunting seasons on adjacent state game lands. Winter closes most private and state-park RV loops in the area, though ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and sledding continue at the lake when conditions allow.
Shoulder-season travelers should watch for lingering mud on unpaved sites in April and early May, and for busy holiday weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day when lakeside loops fill first.
How to book a campsite near Patton
Pennsylvania state park sites, including those at Blue Knob State Park and the large campground on Glendale Lake, are booked through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system. Campsite reservations open up to 11 months in advance, and cabins and cottages must be reserved at least three days before arrival. There are no admission fees for Pennsylvania state parks, but campsite booking fees apply.
Private parks near Patton, including Glendale Valley Campground, Weimers RV 764 Campground / Scott$ Arcade, Wrights Orchard Station Campground, and Rock Run Recreation Area, are booked directly through each operator by phone or their own website. What to expect on-site
At the main state-park campground on Glendale Lake, expect a large tent and trailer area with a mix of non-electric, electric, and full-hookup sites, most fairly level, each typically with a table, fire ring, and grill. On-site facilities include a camp store, restrooms with warm showers, coin-operated laundry, picnic areas, two marinas, boat rentals, boat launches, and a sanitary dump station. Fires are only permitted in grills and fire rings, and firewood from out of state must be properly treated.
Quiet hours and vehicle limits apply at state-park sites: noise that could interfere with the sleep of other campers is prohibited between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m., and only one vehicle is allowed per campsite. Pets are only permitted in designated loops, and overnight guests with pets must reserve designated facilities. Private parks in the area set their own hookup mix and pet rules; check each operator directly.
