Campgrounds and RV parks near Saltsburg, PA

Keystone State Park is the primary outdoor draw. The 1,200-acre park has a 78-acre lake with warm and cold-water fishing, including largemouth bass, tiger muskellunge, crappie, perch, and catfish, with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission stocking trout before the April season opener. Gas motors are prohibited; only non-powered and electric boats are allowed, and Two Dam Kayak Rentals operates at the boat launch. Trails include the 2-mile Lake Side loop around the lake, the 2.5-mile Davis Run Trail through wetlands and upland forest, and the 1.4-mile Stone Lodge Trail that climbs through hardwoods to ridge-top conifers. A sand beach on the north side of the lake is open from late May to early September. Downtown Pittsburgh is roughly 45 minutes west, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater in the Laurel Highlands is reachable as a day trip.

The main camping season at Keystone State Park runs from the first Friday in April through the third Sunday in October, when the tent and trailer sites at the Lakeside and Hillside campgrounds are open. Shower facilities may not be available after October 1, so late-season trips should plan accordingly. The 11 modern cabins at the park are available year-round, extending the shoulder season for travelers who want a hard-sided option. Summer weekends and holidays fill first, particularly lakefront sites, and a two-night minimum applies to summer weekend reservations. Spring brings trout stocking and cool nights; fall delivers foliage from mid-October with lighter crowds. The trail network stays open year-round for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing as conditions allow, and ice fishing is permitted on the lake when conditions permit. One planning note: Keystone Lake is scheduled for a drawdown from after Labor Day through mid-October the following year for dredging, which will affect water-based recreation and close the swimming area during that window, though the campground, cabins, and trails remain open.

At Keystone State Park, both Lakeside and Hillside campgrounds have a modern bathhouse, and a sanitary dump station serves RV campers. Sites offer 30 or 50 amp electric hookups, with water faucets throughout the campground rather than at individual sites; back-in sites can accommodate rigs up to 55 feet. Quiet hours are enforced, alcohol is not permitted in Pennsylvania state parks, and firewood should be sourced locally to limit the spread of pests. Pets are only allowed in the Hillside loop. The Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA has a seasonal saltwater pool that opens Memorial Day weekend, a catch-and-release fishing pond, laundry, WiFi, and a jumping pillow. The campground is open year-round, sits directly off I-70 at Exit 54, and accommodates rigs with 50-amp service and pull-thrus up to 65 feet.
