Campgrounds and RV parks near Southwest Greensburg, PA

Water-based recreation anchors most trips. The 78-acre Keystone Lake supports year-round fishing under Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission regulations, and a public boat launching ramp sits on the north shore near the dam. Rivers within reach include the Youghiogheny, the Monongahela, and the Kiskiminetas. On-site amenities keep families busy on layover days. Fox Den Acres Campgrounds includes a swimming pool, a fishing pond, an on-site store, party pavilions, and playgrounds spread across grassy areas. Beyond the campgrounds, day trips lead to Ohiopyle State Park for whitewater and biking on the Great Allegheny Passage, Idlewild in Ligonier, and Fallingwater in Mill Run. In winter, visitors can head to Keystone State Park for ice fishing, snowshoeing, sledding, and cross-country skiing when conditions permit.

Camping season in this part of Pennsylvania is tightly defined. At Keystone State Park, about 100 tent and trailer sites are available from early April to mid-October, with Lakeside Campground adjacent to the lake and Hillside Campground in a more remote area that accommodates pets. Fox Den Acres Campgrounds operates from May 1 through October 31 on gravel roads with level sites. Most private and public campgrounds in the area follow a similar April-to-October window. Summer is peak season. School-holiday weekends, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day fill lakefront and full-hookup sites first, and lakeside loops go early. Spring and early fall bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and reliable trail conditions, though shoulder-season showers are common. Winter narrows the options sharply. Shower facilities may not be available after October 1 at Keystone State Park, and most private campgrounds close entirely. Modern cabins at Keystone State Park can be reserved year-round for travelers who want a heated base during the cold months.

Site setups vary by property. At Fox Den Acres Campgrounds, full hookups are provided at RV sites, with cable TV, Wi-Fi, water, sewer, and 30/50 amp electric, plus picnic tables and fire rings at most sites. Both Keystone State Park campgrounds have a modern bathhouse, and a sanitary dump station is available on site. Rig size is rarely a problem at the larger private parks. Fox Den Acres Campgrounds offers pull-through sites accommodating big rigs, with the longest pulls around 120 feet. State park sites tend to be shorter and more wooded, with RVs generally limited to around 55 feet, so measure before booking. A few practical notes: cell service is unpredictable in and around many Pennsylvania state parks, so download the park map before arrival, and use local firewood to help slow the spread of invasive insects such as the emerald ash borer.
