Campgrounds near Bradford, Rhode Island
Bradford is a village in the town of Westerly in southwestern Rhode Island, close to the Connecticut border and within a short drive of the state's south-coast beaches. The area sits in Washington County, part of the region locally known as South County, and puts RV travelers within reach of both private RV parks and Rhode Island's largest state campground system.
Private options closest to Bradford include Ashaway RV Resort and Frontier Family Camper Park, both family-oriented parks in the Ashaway area that offer RV sites with hookups and tent areas. A short drive east in Charlestown, Burlingame State Park sits on Watchaug Pond in a 2,100-acre park with 755 campsites and cabins for tents, small trailers, campers, vans, and motor homes, and East Beach State Park offers specialty camping on three miles of undeveloped beach frontage in two ten-site areas.
Across the state line to the west, Mystic KOA Holiday adds a full-hookup option with resort-style amenities. Together these campgrounds cover the full range from primitive beach camping to full-service RV resorts.
Things to do near Bradford
The main draw is the coastline. Misquamicut, Watch Hill, and Charlestown Town Beach are all within a short drive, and the Burlingame campground is located near numerous ocean beaches, including Misquamicut State Beach, Charlestown Breachway, and East Matunuck State Beach.
Inland activities focus on freshwater and trails. Watchaug Pond is one of the largest freshwater ponds in Rhode Island, with a boat launch for boating and fishing that requires a Rhode Island Freshwater Fishing License, and the nearly 8-mile John Vincent Gormley Trail runs through Burlingame and the Kimball Wildlife Refuge.
For kids, private parks in the Ashaway area lean into pools and playgrounds, and the region has mini-golf, ice cream stands, and the Frosty Drew Observatory near Ninigret Park for evenings after the beach.

The core camping season runs from late spring through early fall. Rhode Island state campgrounds typically open in spring, with East Beach's 2026 season starting Saturday, May 23, and most private parks in the Ashaway area follow a similar April-to-October window. July and August are the busiest months, when south-coast beaches and Burlingame fill quickly on weekends and holidays.
Early summer along the coast can be cool and foggy, keeping the immediate coastline chillier than a few miles inland, and fog often forms during late night and early morning hours. Shoulder-season trips in May, September, and early October are quieter and cooler, with less competition for sites.
Beach closures for wildlife can also affect summer plans: closure of part or all of East Beach Campground may occur during the camping season due to the nesting of the Piping Plover, a threatened species under the Federal Endangered Species Act, and if a closure occurs reservations will be cancelled and refunded in full.

Kevin was great in delivering and setting up the unit and going over the “how to”. It was clean - spacious enough to fit our family of 5 - and ran into no issues on our weekend rental. Highly recommended.
Chris H. - Jul 2025
My family had a great time camping with Maria and Kevin’s camper. They were very responsive when we needed help and friendly during drop off and pickup. Will book with them again if we don’t have our own camper next year!

How to book near Bradford
Rhode Island state campgrounds are booked through ReserveAmerica at 1-877-742-2675 or reserveamerica.com. Reservations can be made for today and up to 12 months in advance. Note that due to the ongoing Restroom Construction Project at Burlingame State Campground, the release of reservations for the 2026 camping season is being delayed, with another update expected in mid-May 2026.
East Beach has stricter requirements: all camping units must be self-contained RVs equipped with 4-wheel drive, and all campers must obtain a barrier beach permit prior to their stay. Private parks such as Ashaway RV Resort, Frontier Family Camper Park, and Mystic KOA Holiday take reservations directly by phone or through their websites, and summer weekends should be booked well in advance.
What to expect near Bradford
Expect a mix of rustic state-park camping and full-hookup private parks. Utilities are not available at Burlingame, but the campground has restrooms with shower facilities, a playground, arcade, freshwater beach, boat ramp, canoe rentals, and hiking trails, so RVers should arrive with full water and empty tanks. Many sites show signs of flooding during heavy rains, and the rocky, root-filled terrain requires careful tent placement and RV leveling.
East Beach is primitive by design: the campground has no dump or water filling station, and open fires, outdoor grills, and camp stoves are prohibited, with all cooking contained inside the camping unit. Private parks such as Ashaway RV Resort, Frontier Family Camper Park, and Mystic KOA Holiday offer easier logistics with hookups and family amenities. Campers should not bring firewood with them; purchasing it locally helps protect the area from pests like the Emerald Ash Borer.
