Campgrounds and RV parks near Thompson's Station, TN

The Duck River is the recreational spine of the area. Henry Horton State Park sits next to the Duck River, and visitors can sign up for a guided kayak float on the park's event calendar, set out in their own paddle craft, or cast a line from the banks. Forests, sinkholes, cedar glades, and wetlands are accessible along the hiking trails. On-park amenities include a golf course, tennis courts, disc golf course, picnic areas, pavilions, restaurant, and a trap and skeet range. Off-park, families head to downtown Franklin for historic Main Street and the Carnton battlefield site, or drive into Nashville for the Grand Ole Opry, museums, and the zoo. Within the broader Yanahli area, the Cheeks Bend two-mile trail follows bluffs overlooking the Duck River and reaches Rummage Cave, a short horizontal cave that supports rare wildlife.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in Middle Tennessee. Days are mild, humidity is manageable, and the state park campground is comfortable without the summer heat load. Tornadoes can occur in any month in Tennessee, but activity tends to peak in the spring, so watch severe weather outlooks from March through May. Summer runs hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. Sites at Henry Horton State Park and the private RV parks book earliest for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends. Cabin rentals at Henry Horton may be subject to a 3-night minimum during peak times including Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, at park management discretion. Winters are mild by northern standards but wet. Overnight lows drop near freezing, and some park amenities scale back. At Henry Horton, two bathhouses are available seasonally and one remains open through the winter to accommodate tents and small campers without self-contained facilities. Camping at Yanahli WMA is open during deer and turkey seasons to hunters actively hunting the WMA, so plan around hunt dates if using that area.

Sites vary widely by property. At Henry Horton, the RV campground is drive-up with water and 20/30/50 amp electric hookups, no sewer. There are no full hook-up sites, no fenced dog area, and Wi-Fi can be unreliable. Each RV site is paved and includes a grill, picnic table, lantern hook, Wi-Fi access, and a nearby bathhouse. Camping rates cover up to 6 persons per campsite with exceptions for immediate family, and quiet hours run from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. Pets are welcome on a leash and must be attended at all times. Expect ongoing construction activity at Henry Horton tied to a new lodge, with impact to roads and traffic patterns within the park's day-use area. Private RV parks in the corridor generally offer full hookups and closer highway access but less shade and green space.
