Camping near Bellville, Texas
Bellville sits in Austin County in southeast Texas, roughly an hour west of Houston along the Highway 36 and Interstate 10 corridors. The area combines rolling pastureland, oak savanna, and Brazos River bottomlands, and it functions as a practical base for RV travelers exploring Washington County wineries, Round Top, and the greater Houston area.
Campground options nearby range from working-ranch stays to a state park to a modern luxury resort. 7IL Ranch in Cat Spring has been a continuous working cattle ranch since 1856 on over 1,100 acres of privately owned family land, offering 40 miles of marked trails, RV and water hookups, horse pens, showers, and restrooms. Coushatte Recreation Ranch offers full-hookup RV sites with 30 and 50 amp electrical service on a large recreation property near Bellville.
Stephen F. Austin State Park is a 663-acre state park located on the Brazos River in San Felipe, Austin County, Texas, opened in 1940 and managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. It offers RV and tent sites, group facilities, and lodging. Chappell Hill Luxury RV Resort sits just up the road in Washington County with concrete pads and resort amenities.
Things to do around Bellville
Outdoor activity centers on the Brazos River corridor and the ranch lands west of Houston. Visitors can walk the trails at Stephen F. Austin State Park and view wildlife, though swimming in the Brazos River is not advised due to swift current and changing water levels, and no boating is available at the park. The park also offers picnic areas and an interpretive nature setting along the river bottomlands.
Ranch-based recreation is a signature draw. 7IL Ranch has an extensive network of on-site trails for hiking or horseback riding, with horse rental options and guided trail rides through the Texas landscape. Coushatte Recreation Ranch offers on-site fishing, biking, and event weekends on its grounds.
Day trips reach the Blue Bell Creameries visitor center in Brenham, Round Top antiques, and historic Washington-on-the-Brazos.

Spring is the marquee season. Bluebonnets peak from mid-March through early April along area highways, and Washington County hosts a well-known Bluebonnet Festival in spring. Wildflower traffic can spike weekend campground demand, so lock in sites early.
Summer runs hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common and daytime highs typically in the low to mid 90s. Sites with 50-amp service and shade are worth prioritizing for air-conditioning load. Late summer through October carries elevated risk of tropical systems moving inland from the Gulf, which can bring heavy rain and standing water. Stephen F. Austin State Park has repeatedly posted alerts about standing water throughout the park due to recent rainfall.
Fall and winter are the most comfortable stretches for camping. Cool mornings, lower humidity, and clear skies are typical from late October through February. Note that Stephen F. Austin State Park schedules public hunts in late fall and early winter; the entire park will close at 12pm the day before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 8am the day after the hunt ends.

Tee RV was exactly as described and just what we needed to take our Aunt and Uncle on a "bucket list" trip. Josh was truly helpful and honest and very easy to communicate with. If all our rental experiences were as this one was , we wouldn't own anything, just rent!!

Great experience renting from Josh! He was friendly, responsive, and made the whole process very easy. The RV had everything we needed and was exactly as described. Josh also took the time to explain everything during the walkthrough, which made us feel very comfortable before the trip. Highly recommend renting from him!

How to book a campsite
Reservation systems vary by property. For Stephen F. Austin State Park, campsites can be reserved for today and up to 5 months in advance, while the group hall can be reserved for today and up to 12 months in advance. Reservations go through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system online or by phone.
At 7IL Ranch, the ranch provides online reservations through Campspot, and RV hookups, horse pens, and camping sites are booked through that portal. Coushatte Recreation Ranch and Chappell Hill Luxury RV Resort both take direct online and phone reservations through their own websites, with nightly, weekly, and monthly options available.
Book spring bluebonnet weekends and Aggie football weekends well ahead; midweek stays open up more easily.
What to expect on site
Expect a rural Texas setting: pasture, hardwood groves, and gravel or dirt access roads. Access to the ranch properties involves rural roads that are passable with big rigs but can be narrow, so slow approaches and route planning matter for larger coaches. Cell service is generally usable but can be spotty in low areas.
Hookups and amenities differ sharply by property. Chappell Hill Luxury RV Resort features concrete pads and resort-style amenities, while state park sites are more rustic. At Stephen F. Austin State Park, no RVs or pop up trailers are allowed in tent sites 41 through 80 or primitive sites 81 through 105, generators are not allowed, and quiet time is between 10pm and 6am.
Bring bug spray in warm months, a water pressure regulator, and leveling blocks for uneven ranch sites.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Bellville, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Bellville, TX?
RV rental in Bellville is one of the most affordable ways to explore the rolling hills of Austin County. Most listings on RVezy run between $95 and $225 per night, with travel trailers on the lower end and Class A motorhomes on the higher end. Bellville sits in a quieter pocket of southeast Texas, so prices tend to be friendlier than Houston or Austin proper. You can score a cheap RV rental in Bellville by traveling midweek, booking outside of major Houston Livestock Show weekends, or looking at travel trailers if you already have a tow vehicle. Pro tip: many hosts drop their nightly rate for trips of 5 nights or longer, so stretch that long weekend into a true Bellville RV trip and save.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/stephen-f-austinWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Bellville, Texas?
Good news: a regular Class C Texas driver license (or the equivalent from any other U.S. state or Canadian province) is all you need for nearly every RV available in Bellville. The Texas Department of Public Safety only requires a Class A or B non-commercial license for RVs over 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which covers only the largest diesel pushers. Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and most fifth wheels on RVezy fall well under that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set to roll into the Texas Hill Country.
dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/classes-driver-licensesIs my RV rental in Bellville protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Bellville booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into your reservation. You choose your coverage level during checkout, so you can pick the peace of mind that fits your trip, whether you are heading to Stephen F. Austin State Park for the weekend or a longer Texas RV trip. The protection plan helps cover eligible physical damage to the RV during your rental, taking the worry out of small bumps and unexpected hiccups. Pro tip: review the coverage options on the booking page so you know exactly what is included before you confirm, and message the host with any questions about the rig itself.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Bellville RV rental?
Booking your Bellville RV trip is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation on the platform, not the individual host. There is a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, and the refund amount after that depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help you rebook or issue a refund. Full details are in the RVezy Help Center under the guest cancellation policy. Pro tip: lock in your dates early for Stephen F. Austin State Park, then relax knowing the cancellation terms are clear and platform-wide.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Bellville?
Yes, plenty of pet-friendly RV rentals in Bellville welcome your four-legged co-pilot. Just check the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see rigs where dogs (and sometimes cats) are allowed, and message the host if you have a larger breed or multiple pets. Bellville is a dream for dog owners: Stephen F. Austin State Park allows leashed pets on all five miles of trails, and the wide open spaces around Lake Somerville give pups room to sniff and explore. Many local campgrounds like Coushatte Recreation Ranch also have bark parks on site. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, your pet's vaccination records, and tick prevention, since the wooded areas around the Brazos River are tick country in spring and summer.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/stephen-f-austin/park_information/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Bellville?
Yes, RV delivery in Bellville is widely available and it's one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many hosts will tow or drive the rig directly to Stephen F. Austin State Park, Coushatte Recreation Ranch, your private property, or a friend's ranch in Austin County, then handle the full setup including leveling, hookups, and a walkthrough of every system. Just use the Delivery filter on RVezy to find hosts who offer this service, and check their delivery radius and fee on the listing page. Pro tip: delivery is a smart move if you're flying into Houston Hobby or Bush Intercontinental, then driving the hour west to Bellville. The RV is waiting, set up, and ready when you arrive.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/stephen-f-austin/fees-facilities/campsitesHow far can I drive on a Bellville RV rental, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got plenty of range for a great Texas RV trip from Bellville. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for bigger loops. From Bellville, you're roughly 60 miles to downtown Houston, 95 miles to Austin, 165 miles to San Antonio, 70 miles to Brenham and the Blue Bell Creamery, and about 50 miles to Lake Somerville. Each listing on RVezy shows the included mileage and the per-mile rate for any overage right on the page, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: if you're planning a Hill Country loop through Fredericksburg or a Gulf Coast run to Galveston, filter for unlimited-mileage rigs before you book.

Austin State Park in nearby San Felipe (about 10 miles south) has 40 full-hookup pull-through sites with 30-amp electric, water, and sewer along the Brazos River. Coushatte Recreation Ranch right in Bellville offers 200 big-rig friendly full-hookup sites with a pool and pond fishing. Lake Somerville State Park's Birch Creek and Nails Creek units (about 35 miles north) sit on a 11,460-acre lake with great fishing. For a family vibe, Jellystone Park in Waller (35 miles east) has water slides and a lazy river. Pro tip: book Stephen F. Austin sites up to 5 months ahead through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system; weekend spots disappear fast.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/stephen-f-austinWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Bellville?
The sweet spot for an RV trip from Bellville is mid-October through late April, when daytime highs sit comfortably between 60°F and 80°F and humidity drops to enjoyable levels. March and April bring legendary Texas wildflowers, including the bluebonnets that blanket the back roads between Bellville, Chappell Hill, and Brenham. Fall offers crisp evenings perfect for campfires, mild days for hiking the Brazos River trails, and far fewer mosquitoes. Summer is doable but hot: July and August routinely hit 93°F to 95°F with heat-index values north of 110°F, so plan early morning drives and rigs with strong air conditioning. Pro tip: time your spring visit with the Bluebonnet Trails in mid-March to early April for a uniquely Texas RV experience.
weather.gov/hgx/climateI've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Bellville?
You're going to do great, and Bellville is honestly one of the easiest places in Texas to learn. The roads around town are wide, flat, and low-traffic compared to Houston or Austin, so first time renting an RV here feels approachable rather than overwhelming. Every host on RVezy provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, hookups, propane, slide-outs, and the dump process before you leave. You can also message the host through the app the entire trip if you have a question. Pro tip: take a short practice loop on Highway 36 north of town before heading to your campground. It's a quiet two-lane road that's perfect for getting a feel for the rig's width and braking.
txdot.gov/safety.htmlWhat if something breaks down during my Bellville RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat tire on Highway 290, run into engine trouble near Lake Somerville, or have a mechanical hiccup at a campground, help is one phone call away. Your host is also reachable directly through the RVezy app and usually knows the rig inside and out, which often solves small issues (like a stuck slide or tripped breaker) in minutes. RVezy customer support is available around the clock as well. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before you leave Bellville, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN sticker so you have it handy if you ever need to call in.
txdot.gov/about/programs/help.htmlWhat are the best RV road trips from Bellville, TX?
Bellville sits in a perfect launch spot for an RV road trip from Bellville in just about any direction. Popular routes include: the Texas Hill Country loop through Fredericksburg and Luckenbach (about 175 miles west); the Gulf Coast run to Galveston Island State Park (110 miles southeast) for beachfront camping; a Brazos River paddle trip starting at Stephen F. Austin State Park (10 miles south); the Brenham and Round Top antique trail (35 miles); and Big Bend National Park for the ambitious (about 575 miles west). Texas allows interstate RV travel without special paperwork, and Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma all make easy multi-state extensions. Pro tip: travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals due to insurance, so plan your route to stay stateside.
txdot.gov/inside-txdot/division/transportation-planning/maps.htmlHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Bellville?
Texas has some of the cheapest gas in the country, which is great news for your budget. Most Class C motorhome rentals in Bellville return 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans get 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. With Texas gas typically running $2.70 to $3.20 per gallon, a 200-mile weekend loop to Lake Somerville and back might cost just $50 to $70 in fuel for a Class C. There's a Buc-ee's in Wharton and large Pilot and Love's truck stops along I-10 near Sealy that easily accommodate big rigs. Pro tip: fill up in Bellville or Sealy before heading into the Hill Country, where rural gas stations charge a premium and not all have diesel pumps with high-clearance lanes.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Bellville?
For Stephen F. Austin State Park, book as soon as your dates are set because the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system opens up to 5 months in advance and weekends from October through April can sell out within days. Private parks like Coushatte Recreation Ranch and Whispering Oaks RV Park usually have more flexibility and can often be booked 2 to 4 weeks out, even for weekends. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving) require the longest lead time. Pro tip: if you strike out on a state park weekend, check the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation site daily for cancellations, which open up frequently as the date approaches.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Bellville?
Driving an RV around Bellville is genuinely pleasant. The town sits at the edge of the post oak savannah, so terrain is gently rolling with no mountain passes or steep grades to worry about. Highway 36, Highway 159, and FM 529 are the main routes in and out, all two-lane country roads with low traffic and wide shoulders. Watch for occasional deer at dawn and dusk, especially near Stephen F. Austin State Park, and be alert during spring thunderstorm season (April through June) when sudden downpours can drop visibility fast. I-10 is your quick connection east to Houston or west toward San Antonio. Pro tip: avoid Houston rush hour (7-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m.) when heading toward Bush Intercontinental Airport. Time your drive midday and you'll cruise through.
drivetexas.org/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Bellville?
Campgrounds around Bellville are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Stephen F. Austin State Park offers 30-amp electric, water, and sewer at its 40 full-hookup pull-through sites, plus modern restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern posts at every site. Coushatte Recreation Ranch has 50-amp service, a pool, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Lake Somerville's Rocky Creek campground offers a mix of 30-amp and 50-amp hookups with two boat ramps and a dump station. Most private parks in the area also offer propane refills. Pro tip: if you're staying somewhere without a dump station, the Pilot Travel Center off I-10 at Sealy (exit 720) has a public dump and potable water fill, which makes a perfect quick stop before heading home.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/stephen-f-austin/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat's typically included inside a Bellville RV rental?
Bellville RV rentals come ready to roll. Most listings on RVezy include a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stovetop, microwave, sink, and cookware), a bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on the rig, seatbelts for travel passengers, propane for heat and cooking, and a roof-mounted air conditioner (a must in this part of Texas). Many motorhome rentals in Bellville also include an onboard generator for boondocking, a TV with antenna, exterior speakers, and outdoor camp chairs. Campervan rental Bellville options like Class B Sprinters are perfect for couples wanting easy parking and great fuel economy. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list and message the host if you need specifics like a particular bed configuration, kid-friendly features, or extra propane tanks for a longer trip.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup logistics should I know about?
Hosts in Bellville offer some great add-ons that make your trip easier. Common options include linen and bedding packages ($30 to $75), full kitchen kits, generator use (often $3 to $5 per hour beyond included hours), bike racks, kayaks, outdoor grills, fishing gear, and pet cleaning fees if you're bringing a dog. Pickup usually happens at the host's home in or near Bellville, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation, and dropoff is typically by 11 a.m. on your final day with the rig refueled and tanks dumped (or you can pay a host dump fee to skip that step). Pro tip: ask about a propane top-off and a portable folding table as add-ons. They're inexpensive and make tailgating at Texas A&M or relaxing at Stephen F. Austin State Park much nicer.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/stephen-f-austinHow do payment and the security deposit work for RV rental in Texas?
Payment for your Texas RV rental is handled entirely through the secure RVezy platform, so you never need to hand cash or a personal check to the host. You pay the booking total with a credit or debit card when you reserve, and a refundable security deposit is held (not charged) on your card a few days before pickup. As long as you return the RV in the same condition, refueled, and with tanks emptied per the host's instructions, the hold is released after dropoff. To avoid issues, do a thorough walk-around with the host at pickup, photograph any existing scuffs, and keep your fuel receipts. Pro tip: leave a little headroom on your credit card limit during the trip so the deposit hold does not interfere with vacation spending at Buc-ee's or Round Top antique shopping.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle the Texas summer heat in an RV?
Texas summers are intense but very manageable with the right plan. From June through September, expect daytime highs of 90°F to 95°F around Bellville with high humidity, so every RV rental in Bellville on RVezy comes with at least one rooftop air conditioner, and many larger Class A and Class C rigs have two. Plan to camp at sites with 30-amp or 50-amp electric hookups (like Stephen F. Austin State Park or Coushatte Recreation Ranch) so you can run AC nonstop without draining batteries. Drive during the cooler morning hours, park in shade when you can, and keep window shades drawn during the hottest part of the afternoon. Pro tip: shoulder seasons (March to May, October to November) offer the same beautiful Texas landscape with half the heat. It's the smart-money move for a summer Bellville RV trip dupe.
