Brady camping overview
Brady sits near the geographic center of Texas in McCulloch County, on the northern edge of the Hill Country. The town markets itself as the Heart of Texas and serves as a small-city base for travelers crossing the state or exploring the Edwards Plateau. Elevations around town run roughly 1,700 feet, and Brady Creek and Brady Lake shape most of the local outdoor recreation.
RV renters have several practical options within a few miles of downtown. Richards Park is a city-run campground on Brady Creek with full-hookup RV sites shaded by pecan and oak trees, plus tent and primitive spots. Brady Lake Campground occupies the shoreline of the reservoir north of town, offering RV hookups, tent sites, screened cabanas, and cabins.
For travelers who want a private RV park, Heart Of Texas RV Park and Rockin R RV Park are both close to US 87 in Brady, and Dos Rios RV Park adds another nearby option. Together these parks cover most rig sizes, from compact travel trailers to big rigs needing pull-through sites.
Things to do around Brady
Brady Lake is the main outdoor draw, with about 25 miles of shoreline used for boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing. The adjacent park includes a large pavilion and the Kenneth Medlock Gun Range, which serves as state headquarters for the Texas Muzzle Loaders Rifle Association.
In town, Richards Park adds a disc golf course, playground, walking trail, sports fields, and picnic areas under mature pecans. Families can cool off at the aquatic complex in the adjoining Earnest O. Martin Memorial Park, and the city operates a nine-hole municipal golf course crossed by Live Oak Creek.
Downtown Brady offers small-town shopping, the Heart of Texas Country Music and Historical Museums, and easy day-trip access to Mason, San Saba, and the wider Hill Country.

Brady has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild, mostly dry winters. Spring, from March through May, is the most comfortable window for RV travel. Wildflowers appear across the Hill Country, daytime highs sit in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit, and May is the wettest month of the year, with thunderstorms and occasional severe weather possible.
Summer runs hot. June through August routinely brings highs in the 90s, and August is typically the warmest month, with average highs near 95°F. Shaded sites at Richards Park and lakefront pitches at Brady Lake Campground book up around Labor Day weekend, when the World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off draws roughly 200 cooking teams and thousands of visitors to Richards Park.
Fall cools quickly after September, with October and especially November delivering warm days, cool nights, and the year's driest stretch. Winters are mild overall, with daytime highs commonly in the upper 50s and 60s, occasional freezes, and rare light snow.
How to book campgrounds in Brady
The two city-managed campgrounds, Richards Park and Brady Lake Campground, are operated by the City of Brady and take reservations online through Campspot. Walk-ups are sometimes available on weekdays outside of festival weekends. Labor Day weekend at Richards Park sells out far in advance because of the BBQ Goat Cook-Off, so reserve early if that is the travel window.
Private parks in town, including Heart Of Texas RV Park, Rockin R RV Park, and Dos Rios RV Park, typically take reservations by phone or through their own websites. Most offer full hookups and accept larger rigs, but pull-through availability and length limits vary, so confirm rig length and slide-out clearance when booking.
Texas state parks are not immediately adjacent to Brady, but regional options use the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, which opens bookings up to five months in advance at 8 a.m. Central Time.
What to expect on the ground
Most Brady-area campgrounds are flat, easy pulls for RV renters, with gravel or paved pads and mature shade trees at the city parks. Cell coverage is generally reliable in town and thinner around the lake. Grocery, fuel, and propane are all available in Brady itself, so restocking between longer Hill Country legs is straightforward.
Summer heat is the main planning factor. Sites without full shade get intense afternoon sun, and running an RV air conditioner is standard from June through September. Renters should check that shore power at older sites can handle the load and carry a surge protector.
Wildlife around Brady Lake and Brady Creek includes deer, raccoons, skunks, and occasional snakes, so food should be stored inside and pets kept leashed. Burn bans are common in dry months; check the McCulloch County status before planning a campfire.

traveltexas.com/places-to-go/regions/hill-countryWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting is straightforward in Texas, which consistently has some of the lowest gas prices in the country. Plan on roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for Class A motorhomes, 10 to 14 MPG for Class C rigs, and 18 to 22 MPG for campervans like a Class B. A 300-mile loop through the Hill Country in a Class C usually costs about $75 to $100 in fuel at typical Texas prices. Fill up in Brady on US-87 before heading out, since prices can climb at smaller stations in surrounding towns. Pro tip: most hosts require you return the RV with the same fuel level you received it.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Brady?
For most of the year, Brady-area campgrounds are refreshingly easy to book, but a little planning goes a long way. Brady Lake Park and Richards City Park fill up 4 to 8 weeks ahead for spring break, Memorial Day, and especially Labor Day weekend, when the World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off draws thousands. For nearby Texas State Parks like South Llano River or Colorado Bend, book through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system up to 5 months in advance, the earlier the better. Pro tip: for off-peak weekdays in October or February, you can often roll into a local RV park same-day and grab a great spot.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are local driving conditions like around Brady?

You'll mostly travel US-87, US-190, and US-377, all wide two-lane highways with light traffic, big shoulders, and gentle Hill Country terrain (elevations around 1,650 to 1,800 feet). Watch for white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk, especially on farm-to-market roads outside town, and keep an eye on the sky during spring, when sudden thunderstorms and occasional hail can roll through McCulloch County. The downtown square has tight corners, so park larger rigs at a campground and walk in. Pro tip: TxDOT's DriveTexas.org shows real-time road conditions if storms threaten your route.

You've got plenty of room to roam within the US. RVezy rentals are welcome to travel across state lines, so a campervan rental Brady booking can easily reach New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, or Arkansas, perfect for a longer Southwest loop. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, since insurance and protection coverage do not extend south of the border. If you're dreaming of Big Bend National Park or Marfa, both are fully drivable within Texas and stay safely within your coverage. Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm any state-specific notes, but in general, the US road trip from Brady is wide open.
