Campgrounds and RV parks near Briarcliff, TX

Lake Travis is the main draw. Boat ramps at Pace Bend Park and Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area put paddlers, anglers, and boaters on the water within minutes of Briarcliff. Muleshoe Bend has roughly 10 miles of shaded multiuse trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus a boat ramp for lake access. Kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals are available on-site through the LCRA park, and electric mountain bike rentals are also offered. On land, mountain bikers head to the singletrack at Muleshoe Bend, while hikers use trails at Reimers Ranch and Pedernales Falls State Park to the south. The area is known for bluebonnet displays, with peak wildflower viewing typically late March into early April. Families often combine camping with day trips to Hamilton Pool Preserve, Krause Springs, and the wineries and BBQ stops along Highway 71.

Spring is the strongest all-around season. Daytime highs run from the mid-60s to low 80s Fahrenheit with cool evenings, and bluebonnets peak from late March into early April. Weekends around Easter and spring break book heavily at both private resorts and LCRA parks, so reserve early. Summer temperatures push above 90 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity, though lake access helps. Expect afternoon thunderstorms and periodic burn bans; shade is limited at some primitive sites, so awnings and generators matter for RV comfort. The Fourth of July weekend is the busiest lake weekend of the season. Fall brings comfortable camping weather with cooler nights, thinner crowds, and generally lower fire risk once autumn rains arrive. Fall is also the wettest season on average in this part of central Texas. Winter is mild by North American standards, with occasional hard freezes; most private resorts stay open year-round, while primitive LCRA sites see reduced use. Watch for burn bans in Burnet and Travis counties during dry stretches, and check LCRA lake levels before towing a boat.

Terrain is classic Hill Country: rocky, uneven, and often sun-exposed, with cedar and live oak cover. RV renters should expect narrow county roads leading into some parks, tight turns, and steep launch ramps at the lake. Cell service is generally usable along Highway 71 but spotty at lakeside sites. Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area is primitive, with 41 campsites, no electrical or water hookups at the sites, port-a-potties spread through the camping areas, a flushing restroom and outdoor shower near the entrance, and a 24-hour ice machine. Plan for solar, a full fresh-water tank, and a generator if staying more than a night. Private resorts along the lake corridor typically offer full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Ground fires are permitted as seasonal conditions allow at Travis County parks, but cutting or gathering firewood on-site is prohibited, so buy firewood locally.
