RV camping near Cottonwood Shores, Texas
Cottonwood Shores sits between Lake LBJ and Lake Marble Falls in the Texas Hill Country, roughly an hour northwest of Austin. The city is a small residential community on the Highland Lakes chain, with its own public boat ramps and lake access. It works well as a lake-focused base for RV renters who want quick access to swimming, fishing, and boating without a long drive between sites.
RV options within a short drive include Sunset Point On Lake Lbj RV Park, Hofbrau RV Park, Bullfrog Cove at Twin Isles RV Park, Kingsland RV Park, and Lake Fun Properties. Most of these sit on or near the Lake LBJ shoreline in Kingsland and the surrounding arms of the lake, so hookups, docks, and boat ramps are close by.
For a state-park experience, Inks Lake State Park is the closest option, about a half-hour drive north. It is a busy lakefront park with campsites, limited-use cabins, and a network of hiking trails through pink granite outcrops.
Things to do around Cottonwood Shores
Water access is the main draw. Lake LBJ is a constant-level lake, just over 21 miles long, and is popular for boating, fishing, water skiing, and personal watercraft. The City of Cottonwood Shores maintains an LCRA boat ramp on Lake LBJ off Wirtz Dam Road, and a second municipal ramp with a swimming area on Lake Marble Falls off Lakeview Drive.
On land, families can hike the pink granite outcrops at Inks Lake State Park, rent paddling gear at the park store, and fish for sunfish, catfish, and bass. Boat rentals at the park include kayaks, canoes, paddleboats, and stand-up paddleboards.
Off the water, downtown Marble Falls has restaurants, a historic Main Street, and seasonal events. Longhorn Cavern State Park and Pedernales Falls State Park are both within reasonable day-trip range.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for an RV trip. March averages a high near 71°F and April warms to about 77°F, which pairs well with Hill Country wildflower bloom in April and early May. Expect thunderstorms: May is the wettest month in the area, with the highest chance of rainy afternoons.
Summer is hot and busy on the lake. August is the hottest month, averaging a high around 95°F and a low near 74°F, so shaded, full-hookup sites and strong AC matter. Lakeside RV parks fill quickly on holiday weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Fall brings cooler nights and lower humidity, and lake traffic drops after Labor Day. September and October are a secondary rainfall peak, so check forecasts before towing. Winter is mild but variable. January averages a high near 59°F and a low near 41°F, workable for RV travel with occasional cold snaps and freeze risk overnight.

This RV trailer was immaculate to begin with. Joe had it completely setup (water, electric, sewer, leveled) at the exact time we had agreed to. He went over all of the features of the trailer with me before departing and answered his phone whenever we had any questions. I'll definitely rent from Joe again and would recommend anyone in the Texas Hill Country to do the same with absolute confidence. Thanks Joe and Bekah!

This RV was awesome! Joseph and Bekah delivered it and set it up. They even made the bed, provided linens/towels, pots and pans, dishes, a coffee pot…. We are cooks and their knives are better than ours! We will rent this RV again!

We had an incredible experience renting an RV for the F1 weekend in Austin. Communication was flawless from start to finish - they were friendly, responsive, and genuinely great to work with. They handled the entire setup and pickup, making the process completely seamless and stress-free. I would absolutely recommend renting from them and wouldn’t hesitate to book again. If you’re on the fence, don’t be, you're in great hands!

How to book campgrounds near Cottonwood Shores
Private RV parks around Lake LBJ, including Sunset Point On Lake Lbj RV Park, Hofbrau RV Park, Bullfrog Cove at Twin Isles RV Park, Kingsland RV Park, and Lake Fun Properties, book directly through each park's website or by phone. Waterfront and pull-through sites go first, so reserve holiday weekends and summer months well ahead.
Inks Lake State Park uses the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system. Reservations can be made for today and up to 12 months in advance. Day passes and camping regularly sell out on weekends and holidays, so reserving in advance for weekends, school breaks, and holidays is strongly encouraged. No-shows are cancelled if you do not check in by noon the day after the scheduled arrival, so call the park or the Customer Service Center if you will be late.
What to expect on-site
Most private RV parks in the immediate area offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, and lake or dock access. Sites tend to be tighter than state-park loops, and many properties are geared to lake use, with boat parking, ramps, or slip rentals on the water.
Inks Lake State Park has a mix of water-and-electric sites, walk-in tent sites, and limited-use cabins. Some primitive sites allow only one RV under 26 feet, have a water spigot but no electricity, and do not allow generators. A day-use fee applies per person 13 and older in addition to camping fees.
Cell coverage is generally solid along FM 2147 and the main lake corridors but can drop in coves and low spots. Expect deer and other Hill Country wildlife around campsites; store food and trash accordingly.
