Camping near Early, Texas
Early sits directly across the Pecan Bayou from Brownwood in Brown County, Central Texas. The two cities are separated by the bayou, a tributary of the Colorado River of Texas. That location puts RV travelers within a short drive of Lake Brownwood, a 7,300-surface-acre reservoir on Pecan Bayou at its confluence with Jim Ned Creek, along with the surrounding Central Texas landscape.
Most RV parks in the immediate area are small, full-hookup properties oriented toward highway travelers, hunters, and lake visitors. Brothers RV Park, The Willows of Los Trece RV Park, and G Country RV Park are close-in options in Early itself, while Riverside Park RV sits along the Pecan Bayou in Brownwood and Brownwood Shady Oaks RV Park is a short drive away.
For a public-land experience, Lake Brownwood State Park lies about 16 miles northwest of Brownwood via State Highway 279 and Park Road 15, with tent sites, water and electric sites, 20 full-hookup sites, and 10 screened shelters alongside historic CCC-built cabins and lodges.
Things to do near Early
Lake Brownwood is the main draw. The 7,300-surface-acre reservoir is open to fishing, swimming, boating, water skiing, Jet Skiing, and paddling, with common catches including crappie, perch, catfish, and bass. Lake Brownwood State Park loans fishing gear for use in the park and includes nearly six miles of trails, with the 2.9-mile Nopales Ridge Trail the only trail open to biking.
Closer to town, Riverside Park spans 46 acres along the Pecan Bayou with a playground, a nature trail, an 18-hole disc golf course, a boat ramp, and a one-mile concrete walking trail. The Pecan Bayou Paddling Trail, part of the Texas Paddling Trails since 2015, offers 3.2 to 7.2 miles of flatwater routes accessed from Fabis Primitive Park or Riverside Park.

Fall delivers cooler nights, prime fishing for largemouth bass, and the start of dove and deer season. Summer days routinely top 95 to 100°F, so if you go June through August, look for RVs with strong A/C and full hookups for non-stop power. Winters are mild (50s by day, 30s at night), making December and January quietly underrated for snowbird-style trips.

Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for Class A motorhomes, 10 to 14 MPG for Class C, 16 to 20 MPG for Class B campervans, and your tow vehicle's normal MPG minus 25 to 35% when pulling a travel trailer. Private parks like Brothers RV Park, The Willows of Los Trece, and Riverside Park in Brownwood typically have more last-minute availability, especially midweek. Pro tip: if Lake Brownwood is full, snag a cancellation by checking the reservation site early mornings, openings pop up daily. Booking 4 to 8 weeks ahead is plenty for most trips outside major holidays.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Early and Brownwood?
Driving an RV around Early is refreshingly easy compared to big-city Texas. US-67/377 and US-183 are well-maintained four-lane highways, traffic is light, and you won't hit anything resembling Austin or Dallas gridlock. Watch for a few local quirks: white-tailed deer are very active at dawn and dusk on rural roads (especially near Lake Brownwood), spring thunderstorms can bring brief but intense crosswinds and hail, and a handful of low-water crossings on county roads can flood quickly during heavy rain, never drive through moving water. Pro tip: plan longer drives for mid-morning to early afternoon to dodge both wildlife and afternoon storms, and you'll find the Texas Hill Country to the south is some of the most scenic, RV-friendly driving in the state.

The deposit amount is shown on each listing and is released back to you after drop-off, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any deductions, complete the walkthrough carefully, take photos at pickup and drop-off, and return the RV with fuel, propane, and tanks at the agreed levels.
