Public camping is also available a short drive away at Waco Lake, which is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and offers six campgrounds along the shoreline.

Absolutely amazing experience! We had so much fun, and there was plenty of room for our group of 4 adults and 2 kids. Communication with the owner was excellent! They were very responsive and flexible with both pickup and drop-off. We’d definitely rent from them again if the opportunity comes up!
Heather P. - Nov 2025
Absolutely fantastic experience! Very easy to communicate and extremely accommodating. Will definitely be a first choice if I rent campers again.
The RV was as advertised everything works and didn’t get to meet Dan but his son Andrew explained everything.
Don D. - Jun 2026
Dan and his teardrop are amazing!!!
First - Dan - great communication, explained all the parts and best uses for the trailer, as well as any possible issues. Had all possible connectors, made sure everything was working, and that we were comfortable before handing the trailer over. Extremely accommodating when we needed to make changes!
Second - Trailer - is awesome! Best sleep we have had camping (and we are glampers!), the microwave came in so handy when cooking, electrical hook-ups and plugs made everything so convenient, and the ceramic heater available to plug in made it comfortable inside while it was in freezing temperatures outside!
We look forward to renting again! Also, so lucky this trailer is towable by our Honda CR-V!
Corps of Engineers parks at Lake Waco include Airport Park, Midway Park, Reynolds Creek Park, and Speegleville Park, and reservations are handled through Recreation.gov. Campground reservations typically open several months in advance, so for peak season visits book as early as possible and check individual facility pages for specific booking windows. Weekend and holiday sites at Airport Park in particular go fast.
Private parks around Gholson and Waco, including Post Oak RV Park and Cabins, Camp Fimfo Waco, Deer Crossing RV Park, I-35 RV Park & Campground, and North Crest RV Park and Propane, each handle their own bookings through their websites or by phone. Camp Fimfo Waco and I-35 RV Park & Campground tend to sell out earliest on Baylor football weekends and during major Waco events, so lock in dates well before arrival.
What to expect on the ground
The Gholson side of Waco is rural: two-lane farm roads, open pasture, and scattered oak. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the FM 933 corridor and near I-35, but can be spotty on gravel access roads closer to the Brazos River. Big rigs should route via I-35 and Loop 340 when possible rather than narrow county roads.
Most private parks in the area offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, pull-through sites, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Corps of Engineers sites at Waco Lake typically provide water and electric hookups, restrooms, showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and dump stations, with fewer full-hookup options.
Wildlife sightings around the lake commonly include deer, armadillos, and a range of birds. Zebra mussels have been found in Waco Lake, so boaters should clean, drain, and dry watercraft before moving to other lakes. Summer sun exposure is intense, so shade awnings, plenty of water, and mosquito protection near the river bottoms are worth packing.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Gholson, TX?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Gholson for nearly every rig on RVezy. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class A or Class B license if the motorhome exceeds 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels listed near Waco fall well under that threshold. You'll also need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during booking. Out-of-state visitors are fully covered too, since Texas honors valid non-Commercial Driver's License (CDL) licenses from every other U.S. state.
What protection and roadside support comes with my Gholson RV rental?
Every RV rental in Gholson booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), allowing you to match coverage to your comfort. Roadside assistance covers common issues like flat tires, lockouts, dead batteries, and towing, whether you are on US-84 heading into Waco or parked near Lake Waco. Booking confidence is built right in, with no separate insurance shopping required.
What happens if I need to cancel my Gholson RV trip?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy at the platform level (not individual hosts), keeping things consistent and fair. Every reservation includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your Gholson dates with confidence. Final refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help you find a comparable RV or issue a refund or travel credit. If plans change, contact RVezy support and they will walk you through your options.
Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Gholson?
Yes, your four-legged co-pilot is welcome on many trips. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see every pet-friendly RV rental in Gholson and the greater Waco area, then message the host to confirm any size or breed preferences. Once you are settled in, Cameron Park in Waco offers over 400 acres of leashed dog-friendly trails along the Brazos and Bosque Rivers, and Lake Waco shoreline parks are great for a splash. Texas State Parks like Mother Neff allow leashed pets in outdoor areas but not inside buildings. Pack a collapsible water bowl, since Central Texas summer heat is tough on paws.
Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Gholson?
Yes, RV delivery in Gholson is one of the easiest ways to start your trip stress-free, especially for first-timers or guests flying into Waco Regional Airport. Many RVezy hosts around Gholson and McLennan County will deliver to your campsite at parks like Midway Park on Lake Waco or Camp Fimfo Waco, then handle full setup including leveling, hookups, and slide-outs. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your destination to confirm distance and any delivery fee. Tip: ask about delivery to Mother Neff State Park (about an hour southwest) so you can step out of your car and straight into vacation mode.
How far can I drive, and what road trip routes leave from Gholson?
You have serious road-trip range from Gholson. Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy, and many Waco-area listings include generous daily allotments or RV rental with unlimited mileage options, so you can plan boldly. Popular RV road trip routes from Gholson include Austin (about 110 miles south on I-35), the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex (about 100 miles north), Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country (around 180 miles), Big Bend National Park (a 500-mile bucket-list haul), and Galveston beaches (about 250 miles southeast). Review the mileage section on each listing before booking, and message the host if you are planning a longer loop.
You have great choices nearby. Midway Park, Speegleville Park, Airport Park, and Reynolds Creek Park are U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Lake Waco with electric and water hookups, bookable through Recreation.gov. Camp Fimfo Waco along the Bosque River offers full-hookup sites, a resort pool, and family activities just minutes from downtown. I-35 RV Park in nearby Bellmead provides full hookups with pull-through sites convenient to Magnolia Market and Baylor University. For a state park experience, Mother Neff State Park about 30 miles southwest has full-hookup sites among wildflower prairies, reservable through Texas Parks and Wildlife.
When is the best time to visit Gholson for an RV trip?
Spring (March through May) and fall (late September through November) are the sweet spots for RV camping in Gholson. Spring brings Texas bluebonnets along the roadsides and comfortable highs in the 70s and low 80s, while fall delivers crisp mornings near 50F and pleasant 75F afternoons, ideal for sitting outside your rig. Summer (June through August) is genuinely hot, with August highs averaging in the mid 90s, so plan early-morning drives and choose an RV with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild (January highs near 57F), making a Gholson RV trip doable year-round. Tip: book early April for peak wildflower season at Mother Neff State Park.
You're going to do great. First time renting an RV in Gholson is genuinely beginner-friendly because every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving basics, slide-outs, propane, water tanks, and the generator, so you never leave wondering how anything works. The roads around Gholson (FM 933, Highway 6, and I-35) are wide, mostly flat, and easy to navigate, making this one of the most forgiving regions in Texas to learn. Choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first rent an RV in Gholson experience. Pro tip: ask the host to record a short video of the walkthrough on your phone so you can replay it at the campsite.
What if something goes wrong on the road during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every motorhome rental in Gholson booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, so help is a phone call away whether you have a flat tire on I-35, a battery issue at Lake Waco, or a propane question after dark. Your host is also typically reachable by message for quick questions like resetting the generator. For mechanical issues beyond roadside, RVezy customer support helps coordinate repairs or alternatives. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway and roll out with confidence.
Can I take my Gholson RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Interstate travel is generally welcome. Most RVezy hosts in Gholson allow trips throughout the continental U.S., so traveling into Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, or Arkansas from your Texas base is usually fine, just confirm with your host through the listing before booking. Cross-border travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the insurance and protection plan do not extend south of the border. Travel into Canada may be possible with specific host approval and additional paperwork. Popular interstate routes from Gholson include Hot Springs, Arkansas (about 400 miles east) and Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico (about 580 miles west). Message your host early so they can plan accordingly.
How much should I budget for fuel on my Gholson RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier parts of budgeting a Gholson RV trip thanks to Texas's consistently lower-than-average gas prices. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes pull 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes average 6 to 10 MPG. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop from Gholson to Mother Neff State Park and back, expect roughly $80 to $150 in fuel for a Class C. Diesel rigs are often more efficient on long hauls. Pro tip: fuel up at the Buc-ee's in Temple or Waco where prices are competitive and the pumps easily fit big rigs, then download GasBuddy to track Central Texas prices in real time.
How far in advance should I book a campground near Gholson?
Booking ahead pays off, especially for the best campgrounds near Gholson during spring and fall. Texas State Parks like Mother Neff open reservations up to 5 months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and weekends fill quickly during wildflower season and holidays. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers parks on Lake Waco (Midway, Speegleville, Airport Park, Reynolds Creek) book through Recreation.gov up to 6 months out. Private parks like Camp Fimfo Waco and I-35 RV Park can sometimes be booked days ahead mid-week, but lock in summer weekends a month or two early. Tip: if your dream site is full, set a cancellation alert because drops happen daily.
Driving an RV around Gholson is refreshingly easy compared to most U.S. destinations. The terrain is flat to gently rolling Blackland Prairie, FM 933 (Gholson Road) is a wide rural farm-to-market road, and nearby I-35 has generous lanes for big rigs (though it does get congested through downtown Waco at rush hour). Watch for sudden Central Texas thunderstorms in spring and fall, which can bring strong crosswinds and hail, just pull over at a Buc-ee's or Love's truck stop until it passes. Summer afternoons can produce road shimmer and the occasional tire blowout from heat, so check tire pressure each morning. Avoid driving narrow downtown Waco streets in larger Class A motorhomes; stick to the loop highways instead.
What hookups and amenities can I expect at Gholson-area campgrounds?
Central Texas campgrounds are well-equipped for a smooth stay. Most private RV parks near Gholson, including Camp Fimfo Waco and I-35 RV Park, offer full hookups with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer at the site, plus Wi-Fi at many locations. Mother Neff State Park provides full-hookup sites along with ADA-accessible showers and a dish-washing area. For dumping and freshwater, full-hookup parks handle both on-site; at Lake Waco Corps of Engineers parks, use the central dump stations near the park entrances. Propane refills and cylinder exchanges are widely available in nearby Waco, a handy detail for longer trips.
These rigs are comfortable and well-equipped. A typical motorhome rental in Gholson sleeps 4 to 8 people across a queen bedroom, convertible dinette, and bunk options, with a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink), a private bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with roof-mount AC, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Many listings include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, onboard generator, and an outdoor awning for shaded patio time. Wi-Fi varies by host, but cell coverage around Waco and Lake Waco is strong on all major carriers. Tip: filter by sleeps count and amenities like slide-outs to find the right fit fast.
What add-ons and extras can I get with my Gholson rental?
Gholson hosts make trip prep simple by offering add-ons right in the listing. Common extras include generator usage packages, camping kits with bedding and towels, kitchen stocking, outdoor grills, bike racks, kayaks, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is a popular add-on, with many hosts dropping the rig at locations like Midway Park or Lake Whitney for a fee based on distance. Pickup and dropoff usually happens at the host location near Gholson Road or in the Waco area, with a brief walkthrough at both ends. Tip: bundle add-ons during booking rather than at pickup, since this is typically cheaper and guarantees availability.
How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy at booking using a credit or debit card, and your funds are held safely until your trip begins, never paid directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit is collected before your trip starts (amount varies by RV), and as long as you return the rig in the agreed condition with the right fuel level, mileage, and a clean interior, your deposit is released back to you shortly after dropoff. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, follow the host fuel and waste-tank instructions, and keep all communication on RVezy for a clear paper trail.
Is a Gholson RV rental a good fit for a family trip?
Gholson is one of the best family-friendly bases in Central Texas. A family RV trip in Gholson puts you minutes from kid-favorite attractions like the Waco Mammoth National Monument, Cameron Park Zoo, the Dr Pepper Museum, and Magnolia Market at the Silos, all while keeping you on quiet rural land just off FM 933. Family-sized travel trailers and Class C motorhomes on RVezy sleep 6 to 9 comfortably with bunk options the kids will love. Camp Fimfo Waco features a water playground, mini-golf, and a fishing pond on-site. Tip: pair a weekday stay at a Lake Waco Corps park with a weekend at Mother Neff State Park to combine city sightseeing with nature.
