Campgrounds and RV parks near Hudson Bend, TX

Lake Travis drives most trips. Boating, wakeboarding, swimming, and fishing are the core activities, and marinas along Hudson Bend Road handle rentals, fuel, and launch access. Windy Point Park caters heavily to scuba divers, with an underwater park billed as the top dive site in Texas, plus shoreline stairs and platforms for water access. Off the water, the surrounding Hill Country offers hiking, swimming holes such as Hamilton Pool and Krause Springs, and wine tasting along regional trails. Downtown Austin sits roughly a half-hour drive east, giving RV travelers access to live music, museums, and family attractions without moving camp. Nearby Travis County parks including Pace Bend and Mansfield Dam add day-use hiking, cliff-side lake views, and additional boat ramps.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping around Lake Travis. Daytime highs sit in the 70s and 80s, water temperatures climb or hold into swim range, and wildflowers appear across the Hill Country in April and May. Weekends around Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day book out earliest at private parks on the peninsula. Summer is hot. Most summer days in Austin heat up to at least 90 degrees, and it gets much hotter on an average of 29 days a year, with temperatures reaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more. Shade sites, 50-amp service for air conditioning, and lake access matter most during June through August. May has the greatest precipitation of any month in Austin, averaging about 5.1 inches, so plan for occasional heavy thunderstorms in late spring. Winter is the quiet season. Austin normally sees just one day each winter when the temperature doesn't rise above freezing. Reservations are easier to secure, though lake activities are limited and some seasonal facilities scale back.

Roads on the peninsula are narrow, winding, and hilly. Larger Class A rigs and long fifth-wheels should route carefully to their park and confirm site length in advance. Cell coverage is generally reliable, and grocery, fuel, and marine services are clustered along Hudson Bend Road and RM 620. Hookup levels vary by park. Sun Outdoors Lake Travis offers full-hookup resort-style sites with landscaped, level pads and wireless internet. Windy Point Park is a dry-camping-only operation with no fresh water or electric hookups at sites, and pets are not allowed anywhere in Windy Point Park. Lake levels fluctuate. LCRA manages releases and flood operations on the Highland Lakes, and boat ramp access can change with water level, so confirm ramp status before arrival.
