Camping near Jonestown, Texas
Jonestown sits on the north shore of Lake Travis in the Texas Hill Country, about 30 miles northwest of downtown Austin. The town works well as an RV base for lake recreation, Hill Country drives, and day trips into Austin, Cedar Park, and Marble Falls. Terrain is rolling limestone hills covered in cedar and live oak, with the reservoir shoreline defining most of the local park land.
RV options within a short drive include North by Northwest RV Park, Camper Resort on Lake Travis, Sun Outdoors Lake Travis, Big Oaks RV Park and Storage, and Hudson Bend RV Park Inc. These properties range from full-hookup resort-style parks to smaller lots geared toward extended stays. Most sites are level and accommodate big rigs, though shade varies by park.
Public camping on Lake Travis is managed by Travis County Parks and the Lower Colorado River Authority, with additional primitive options at nearby recreation areas. Grocery stores, fuel, propane, and RV service are available in Jonestown, Lago Vista, and Cedar Park.
Things to do around Jonestown
Lake Travis drives most of the local recreation: boating, paddling, swimming, and bass and catfish angling. Public shoreline access includes Jones Brothers Park in Jonestown, Pace Bend Park, one of the most popular areas in the Highland Lakes region with more than nine miles of shoreline along Lake Travis, and Turkey Bend Recreation Area, which offers miles of designated hiking, biking, and equestrian trails along the lake.
Hiking and wildlife viewing are strong at the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge just north of town, which protects habitat for the golden-cheeked warbler. Families often pair a camping trip with visits to Hamilton Pool Preserve, Krause Springs, and Longhorn Cavern State Park, all within an hour's drive.
In town, The Oasis on Lake Travis is a popular sunset stop, and downtown Austin's music venues, museums, and food scene are roughly 40 minutes away by car.

Spring, from mid-March through May, is the most comfortable window. Daytime highs are warm without being extreme, wildflowers peak in April, and the lake begins to warm for swimming. May is typically the wettest month of the year in Central Texas, so watch the forecast for thunderstorms and short-notice flash-flood advisories in Hill Country creek drainages.
Summer is hot and muggy, with afternoon highs frequently in the mid-90s and often topping 100°F. This is peak boating season on Lake Travis; weekend sites at both private RV parks and public campgrounds fill weeks in advance, and burn bans are common. Reserve early and plan on running air conditioning through the afternoon.
Fall brings cooler evenings, lower humidity, and more settled weather from late September through November, making it a strong second choice for RV travel. Winters are short and generally mild, with occasional cold fronts and rare hard freezes; some private parks shift to reduced services but most stay open year-round.

Alan’s RV was nice and cozy. Even on short notice he was able to provide the RV on a busy 4th of July weekend. He was great at communicating with me and would definitely recommend.

This RV trailer was immaculate to begin with. Joe had it completely setup (water, electric, sewer, leveled) at the exact time we had agreed to. He went over all of the features of the trailer with me before departing and answered his phone whenever we had any questions. I'll definitely rent from Joe again and would recommend anyone in the Texas Hill Country to do the same with absolute confidence. Thanks Joe and Bekah!
Paul C. - Jun 2026
This RV was awesome! Joseph and Bekah delivered it and set it up. They even made the bed, provided linens/towels, pots and pans, dishes, a coffee pot…. We are cooks and their knives are better than ours! We will rent this RV again!

How to book a campsite near Jonestown
Private RV parks in and around Jonestown, including North by Northwest RV Park, Camper Resort on Lake Travis, Sun Outdoors Lake Travis, Big Oaks RV Park and Storage, and Hudson Bend RV Park Inc, take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Booking two to three months ahead is advisable for spring weekends, summer holidays, and major Austin festival weekends.
Public sites use different systems. Travis County Parks handles bookings on its own portal, and reservations must be requested at least 24 hours before the requested camping date for parks such as Pace Bend. LCRA parks such as Turkey Bend use ReserveAmerica, with reservations available up to 6 months in advance and required 2 days ahead of arrival.
What to expect on the ground
Most private parks near Jonestown offer full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, and many are big-rig friendly. Terrain is hilly, so ask about site leveling and, in some cases, the position of the sewer connection relative to the pad. Cell service on major carriers is generally solid across the Jonestown, Lago Vista, and Hudson Bend area.
Public campgrounds on Lake Travis are more primitive. Expect back-in sites, non-flushing restrooms at many locations, and limited or no hookups. At Pace Bend, primitive campsites with picnic tables, grills, and fire rings are scattered along the cliffs on a first-come, first-served basis alongside reservable improved sites.
Travis County frequently enacts burn bans in summer and early fall, so open fires may be restricted. A park may fall under a burn ban without notice. Bring a propane fire pit as a backup, plan for shade, and secure trash to keep raccoons and ringtails out.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Jonestown, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Jonestown, TX?
RV rental in Jonestown is affordable for a Lake Travis getaway, with most peer-to-peer rentals on RVezy running about $95 to $175 per night for travel trailers and campervans, and $200 to $350 per night for larger Class A and Class C motorhomes. Weekday bookings on the north shore of Lake Travis often run 15 to 25 percent cheaper than Friday-to-Sunday stays, especially outside the summer boating season. Pro tip: cheap RV rental in Jonestown is easiest to find in February, early March, and November when Hill Country weather is still beautiful but lake-season demand drops. Filter by price range on RVezy, message a few hosts directly, and you can often lock in unlimited mileage or free delivery as a bonus.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jonestown%2C%20TexasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Jonestown, Texas?
Good news: for nearly every RV rental in Jonestown, your regular driver's license is all you need. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class A or B license for personal RVs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of rigs on RVezy, including campervans, travel trailers, Class C motorhomes, and most Class A coaches, fall well under that threshold. You will need to be 25 or older and verify your ID through the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from abroad? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit (IDP) before you arrive. Most first-timers are surprised how easy renting an RV in Jonestown actually is.
dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/classes-driver-licensesIs my Jonestown RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Jonestown booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Lake Travis with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout rather than leaving it to the host. It provides significant financial protection for renters, especially helpful if you are new to driving a motorhome on Hill Country roads. Pro tip: review the coverage options side-by-side during booking and pick the level that matches your comfort, then enjoy your Jonestown RV trip knowing the safety net is already in place.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Jonestown trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in Jonestown, TX. That means a consistent, transparent process across listings, including a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Cancellations made further from your trip date generally qualify for larger refunds, and special situations like natural disasters (think Central Texas flooding or severe storms on Lake Travis) are reviewed by RVezy support. Because it is a platform-wide process, the policy is not displayed individually on each listing. Pro tip: book early to get the best motorhome rental in Jonestown, then relax knowing flexibility is built into your reservation.

Absolutely, Jonestown is a fantastic dog-friendly destination, and finding a pet-friendly RV rental in Jonestown is easy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and message the host to confirm any deposit or cleaning fee. Once you arrive, Pace Bend Park welcomes leashed dogs across its nine miles of Lake Travis shoreline, and Jones Brothers Park right in Jonestown has open green space perfect for a morning walk. Reimers Ranch Park on the south shore even has dog-friendly hiking trails. Pro tip: rinse your pup with fresh water after any Lake Travis swim, as floating algae mats can appear in late summer and lake managers recommend keeping dogs clear of them.
parks.traviscountytx.gov/parks/pace-bendCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Jonestown?
Yes, RV delivery in Jonestown is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if you have never driven a motorhome before. Many hosts will deliver the RV directly to area campgrounds like Lake Travis 55 RV Park or Northlake RV Resort along RM 1431, or to a private property along the north shore. They will level the rig, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter by Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your destination address to confirm the fee. Pro tip: delivery is the smartest way to enjoy a stress-free family RV trip Jonestown-style without ever getting behind the wheel of a big rig.

Mileage policies vary by host, and many offer 100 to 150 free miles per night with the option to add packages. Cedar Breaks Park on the south side of the lake is another great Travis County option for RVs. Pro tip: book hookup sites two to four weeks ahead in summer, and sooner for holiday weekends.
parks.traviscountytx.gov/parks/pace-bendWhen is the best time to visit Jonestown in an RV?
Jonestown is genuinely a year-round RV destination thanks to its Central Texas Hill Country climate. The sweet spot is mid-March through May, when daytime highs run 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit, wildflowers explode across the hills, and Lake Travis warms up for swimming. September through early November is the other golden window, with highs in the 75 to 90 range and fewer crowds. Summers are hot, with July and August highs averaging 94 to 96 degrees, so you'll want a rental with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild, with January highs near 59 and lows around 42, perfect for cozy fifth-wheel weekends. Pro tip: target April or October for the ideal Jonestown RV trip balance of weather and value.
forecast.weather.gov/zipcity.php?inputstring=Jonestown%2CTXI've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Jonestown?
You'll be just fine, and you're definitely not alone. First time renting an RV is one of the most common scenarios on RVezy, and every host provides a full pickup orientation walking you through driving, slide-outs, water, propane, and waste systems before you leave. Many Jonestown hosts also offer delivery and setup, meaning you can skip driving entirely and simply enjoy your rental at the campground. If you do want to drive, RM 1431 and the route to Lake Travis are well-paved, scenic two-lane roads that are very RV-friendly. Pro tip: pick a Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Jonestown for your first trip, as they handle much like a large van and build confidence fast.
txdmv.gov/motoristsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my Jonestown RV trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RV rental booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so a flat tire on RM 1431, a dead battery at Lake Travis 55 RV Park, or a tow issue on the way to Pedernales Falls State Park is just a phone call away. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip if you need help reaching your host or coordinating a fix. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before you leave the driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so you have it handy if you ever need to call in for help.
dps.texas.gov/section/highway-patrolWhat are the best road trip routes from Jonestown?
An RV road trip from Jonestown puts you in the heart of Texas Hill Country with incredible options in every direction. Head west on TX-71 for a wine country loop through Spicewood, Marble Falls, and Fredericksburg, about 80 miles each way. Drive south through Austin and on to San Antonio (about 110 miles) for the River Walk and the Alamo. Cruise the famous Willow City Loop near Llano (75 miles) in spring for wildflowers, or head southeast 165 miles to Galveston for a coastal beach week. Travel to Mexico is not permitted with RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage, so stick to U.S. routes. Pro tip: build in two nights at Inks Lake State Park (45 miles northwest) for a perfect Highland Lakes mini-loop.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/inks-lakeWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my Jonestown RV trip?
Budgeting fuel is straightforward once you know your rig. Campervans and small Class B motorhomes average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes typically run 8 to 12 MPG, and larger Class A motorhomes come in around 7 to 10 MPG. Towable travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, often 10 to 14 MPG combined. Gas prices in the Jonestown and Cedar Park area generally track a bit below the national average, and you'll find convenient fuel stops at the H-E-B gas station on Lohmans Crossing and along US-183 in Leander before you head into more rural Hill Country. Pro tip: fill up in Cedar Park or Leander before pointing west on RM 1431, as stations get scarce past Lago Vista.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Jonestown?
Book early and you will have the pick of the lake. For improved RV sites at Pace Bend Park, Travis County opens reservations on a rolling monthly schedule and the 20 hookup sites fill within hours for summer weekends. Private parks like Lake Travis 55 RV Park and Northlake RV Resort usually accept reservations 60 to 90 days out, and book up four to six weeks ahead for May through August. Spring break and the Fourth of July sell out fastest. Pro tip: if you are flexible, primitive sites at Pace Bend are first-come, first-served and rarely fully booked, making them a great Plan B for spontaneous RV camping Jonestown weekends.
parks.traviscountytx.gov/reservations/camping-reservationsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Jonestown?
Driving around Jonestown is generally relaxed and RV-friendly. RM 1431, the main route through town, is a winding but well-maintained two-lane highway with scenic Hill Country curves between Cedar Park, Jonestown, and Marble Falls, so take it slow and enjoy the views. The biggest things to watch for are summer afternoon thunderstorms (which can drop heavy rain quickly), occasional flash flooding in low water crossings after big rains, and rush-hour traffic on US-183 and TX-1 (MoPac) if you're driving toward Austin between 7 and 9 a.m. or 4 and 7 p.m. Pro tip: time your pickup and any Austin sightseeing for mid-morning or early afternoon to avoid metro traffic in your motorhome rental Jonestown adventure.
drivetexas.org/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Jonestown?
Most campgrounds near Jonestown are well-equipped for a comfortable Lake Travis stay. Full-hookup parks like Lake Travis 55 RV Park and Northlake RV Resort offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, and an on-site dump station. Pace Bend Park's 20 improved sites include water and electric plus restrooms, showers, and an on-site RV dump station, while its primitive cliffside sites have picnic tables, grills, and vault-style toilets. Fresh potable water is available at every improved Travis County site. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before leaving the campground for day trips, as RV-accessible fill stations are limited once you head west on RM 1431 toward Marble Falls.
parks.traviscountytx.gov/parks/pace-bendWhat's typically included inside a Jonestown RV rental?
You will be impressed by how move-in ready most RVs are. A typical campervan rental Jonestown listing or Class C motorhome on RVezy comes with sleeping for 2 to 8 people, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, and often an oven), a bathroom with shower and toilet, a dinette, air conditioning that is a must in Texas summers, a furnace for winter trips, and seatbelted travel seats. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi is occasionally included or available as an add-on. Pro tip: check each listing's amenity list and message the host to confirm specifics like bedding, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs so you only pack what you actually need for the trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jonestown%2C%20TexasWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for renting an RV in Jonestown?
Hosts in Jonestown offer some genuinely useful extras to upgrade your trip. Popular add-ons on RVezy include kitchen and linen kits, generators for boondocking, portable fire pits, paddleboards or kayaks for Lake Travis, bike racks, and outdoor patio sets. Pickup is usually at the host's home or shop in Jonestown, Lago Vista, or Cedar Park, and many hosts offer delivery to Lake Travis-area campgrounds for a flat fee based on distance. Mileage policies range from around 100 free miles per night to true unlimited mileage. Pro tip: book add-ons during checkout rather than adding them later, and ask about an early pickup or late dropoff window to maximize your time on the water.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jonestown%2C%20TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Jonestown?
Payment is simple, secure, and handled entirely through the RVezy platform, never directly with the host. You will pay your rental total, taxes, and any selected add-ons at booking using a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is placed on hold a few days before your trip starts and released back to your card after a successful return, typically within a few business days. Deposit amounts vary by rig and are set separately from the booking payment to cover incidentals like excess mileage or minor damage outside the protection plan. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video at pickup and dropoff of your Jonestown RV rental, as this is the single best way to ensure a smooth deposit refund.
