Campgrounds near Lometa
Lometa sits in Lampasas County on the western edge of the Texas Hill Country, along US 183 between Lampasas and San Saba. The town is a practical staging point for the Colorado River corridor and the caves, springs, and waterfalls that draw RV travelers to this stretch of central Texas. Most campgrounds within an hour of town are a mix of state park primitive sites and small private RV parks along US 281 and US 183.
The headline destination is Colorado Bend State Park, roughly 30 miles east of Lometa near the community of Bend. The park is administered by Texas Parks and Wildlife and offers drive-up primitive sites, walk-in tent sites, and hike-in backcountry camping along the Colorado River. Options in the area include Sulphur Springs Camp and Colorado Bend Cabins, along with Main - Colorado Bend State Park for standard TPWD sites.
For full-hookup RV stays, Little Lucy RV Resort and Boone RV Park are the closest developed options, both located along US 281 near Lampasas.
Things to do near Lometa
Colorado Bend State Park is the main draw. The park has more than 35 miles of hike and bike trails, over 400 caves, and access to the 70-foot Gorman Falls, reached by a rocky three-mile round-trip hike. Spicewood Springs offers cool, clear pools for wading, and the Colorado River is open to fishing, swimming, and paddling.
Guided wild cave tours run through the park and require advance reservations. Mountain biking on the park's trail system is well regarded in the region.
Off-park, families can visit Longhorn Cavern State Park to the southeast for guided cave tours, and the town of Lampasas offers grocery resupply at HEB before heading back to primitive sites.

December - February
61° / 39°F 45 mmMild days, chilly nights; occasional hard freezes
Spring and fall are the strongest windows. March through May brings mild temperatures, wildflowers, and the highest average rainfall of the year, which keeps Gorman Falls flowing and the river running. May is the wettest month and can bring severe thunderstorms, so watch forecasts for flash flood risk along low water crossings.
Summer is hot. June through August routinely sees afternoon highs in the low to mid 90s Fahrenheit with high humidity, and shade at primitive campsites is limited. Early-morning hikes to Gorman Falls and river swimming are the practical way to enjoy the park in this window. Burn bans are common through late summer.
Fall reliably delivers cooler nights, lighter crowds midweek, and generally stable weather from late September into November. Winter is mild by North American standards, with daytime highs around 60 Fahrenheit and only occasional freezes, though hard cold snaps do occur.
How to book
Colorado Bend State Park sites are reserved through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system online or by phone with the TPWD Customer Service Center. Overnight reservations can be made up to five months in advance, and sites at Main - Colorado Bend State Park fill quickly for spring and fall weekends, particularly when scout groups are on the calendar. Walk-up availability is not reliable.
Cave tours at the park are booked separately and also require advance reservations. A daily park entrance fee applies in addition to the campsite fee, and a Texas State Park Pass covers entry for the pass holder and guests.
Private parks such as Little Lucy RV Resort and Boone RV Park are booked directly with the property by phone or through their websites.
What to expect on site
Colorado Bend is a back-to-nature park. Drive-up and walk-in sites have potable water in the area and composting toilets, but no hookups of any kind and no RV sewage disposal on site. Self-contained RVs up to 20 feet are allowed on the drive-up loop; larger rigs should plan for a private park instead. Cell service is minimal throughout the park.
The main park road runs roughly six miles from the entrance to headquarters on gravel and unpaved sections. The park gate is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and campers arriving later need to call before 4:30 p.m. for the gate code.
At Little Lucy RV Resort and Boone RV Park, expect full hookups, laundry, and easier access from paved highways, which suits families with larger trailers or motorhomes.

Booking is genuinely low-risk. If a natural disaster like a hurricane remnant, ice storm, or wildfire threatens your dates, RVezy's support team works with you on those situations too. Once you're here, Colorado Bend State Park allows leashed dogs on most trails (including the Gorman Falls hike), Inks Lake State Park is dog-welcoming with shaded shoreline sites, and Lometa Regional Park has open green space for stretching legs. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, Hill Country summers hit the 90s and shade can be sparse on the limestone trails.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/pets-in-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Lometa?
Yes, and it's the easiest way to start your trip. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your campsite number and arrival date. This is the move for first-time renters: no backing into a tight site, no learning to dump tanks on day one, just show up and start the campfire.

Pro tip: book Colorado Bend campsites at least 3 months ahead, weekends sell out fast on the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation site.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/colorado-bend/fees-facilities/campingWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Lometa?
Lometa is a genuine three-season sweet spot. The best windows for a Lometa RV trip are mid-March through May (highs in the 70s to mid-80s, wildflowers along FM 580, and May rains keeping the Hill Country green) and late September through November (warm days in the 70s and 80s, cool 50-degree nights, perfect campfire weather). Summer (June to August) regularly hits the upper 90s, so plan early-morning hikes and aim for shaded sites. Winter is mild (highs in the 50s and 60s with lows in the 30s and 40s), which means snowbird RVers can comfortably camp year-round. Pro tip: book a March trip and you'll catch peak bluebonnet season around Llano and Mason.

Your host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup or delivery, covering leveling, slide-outs, the propane stove, and the black-tank dump procedure, and they're a text away during your trip. Pro tip: avoid the narrow gravel approaches to the park's primitive west side until you're comfortable, the main entrance road off County Road 442 is the smoother route.
txdot.gov/safety.htmlWhat happens if I have a breakdown or flat tire near Lometa?

Cell coverage is solid on the main highways around Lometa and gets spotty deeper into Colorado Bend State Park, so screenshot the RVezy support number before you lose bars. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips from Lometa, TX?
Lometa is a perfect launchpad. A few favorite RV road trip from Lometa routes: head 75 miles south to Fredericksburg for wine country and the LBJ Ranch (under 2 hours), drive 95 miles southeast to Austin for live music and Barton Springs, loop 140 miles south to San Antonio for the River Walk and the Missions, or head about 60 miles south to Llano and Enchanted Rock State Natural Area for that iconic pink granite dome. Going bigger? Big Bend National Park is a stunning 6 to 7 hour drive west and worth a full week. Cross-border note: Mexico travel is not allowed on RVezy rentals due to insurance limits, but you have more Texas than you can cover in a month right here.
traveltexas.com/places-to-go/regions/hill-countryHow much should I budget for fuel on a Lometa RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's manageable. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C motorhomes pull 8 to 12 mpg, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg combined), and Class A gas rigs run 6 to 10 mpg. Texas gas prices tend to run below the national average, and Lampasas (15 miles south) and San Saba have convenient fill-ups. Pro tip: top off in Lampasas or San Saba before heading toward Colorado Bend, station options thin out fast on FM 580.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Lometa?
Earlier is better, but you've still got options if you're a planner-procrastinator. Colorado Bend State Park and Inks Lake State Park book through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and weekends from March through May and again in October fill up 3 to 5 months in advance, while weekdays often have openings just a week out. Lometa Regional Park is typically first-come, first-served outside of summer holidays. Private parks take direct reservations and usually have a few weeks of lead time. Pro tip: if you strike out on a state park weekend, search Hipcamp for a private ranch site near Bend, TX, they're often available last-minute and beautiful.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Lometa?
Driving here is mostly stress-free compared to big-city RV trips. Lometa sits at the crossroads of US-183 and US-190, both wide, well-maintained two-lane highways with generous shoulders and gentle Hill Country grades. Things to watch: white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk (especially on FM 580 toward Bend), occasional flash flooding at low-water crossings during spring storms (never drive through moving water, turn around), and strong south winds on flat stretches that can push a high-sided RV. Avoid the gravel river crossings on the back routes to Colorado Bend's west side. Pro tip: plan your travel between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to dodge deer and afternoon thunderstorms.
txdot.gov/safety.htmlWhat hookups and amenities do campgrounds near Lometa offer?
You've got a full range, from primitive to resort-style. Lometa Regional Park offers sites with electric and water hookups, restrooms, showers, a playground, and a dump station (no sewer at the site). Colorado Bend State Park offers water-only sites and a dump station on the way out. Inks Lake State Park has loops with water and electric, plus a dump station. Nearby private RV parks offer 30/50-amp full hookups plus WiFi and laundry. Need to fill fresh water or dump on a travel day? Lometa Regional Park's dump station is often available to non-campers for a small fee. Pro tip: confirm your RV's amp service (30 vs 50) with your host before booking older small-town parks.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/inks-lake/fees-facilities/campingWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Lometa?
More than you'd expect, even on budget rentals. A typical motorhome rental Lometa hosts list comes fully equipped: a real queen or king bed, full kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, bathroom with hot shower and flush toilet, roof air conditioning (essential for Texas summers), a furnace for those 30-degree winter nights, and seatbelted seating for everyone traveling. Most Class C and Class A rigs include a TV, and many hosts add a generator for boondocking at Colorado Bend's water-only sites. WiFi is usually via your phone hotspot, but several premium listings now offer Starlink. Pro tip: check the listing's Amenities section for outdoor speakers and awnings, both are clutch for Hill Country stargazing nights.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lometa%2C%20TexasWhat add-ons can I get with my Lometa RV rental?
Lots, and the right ones make your trip way easier. Common add-ons RVezy hosts in the Lometa area offer include kitchen kits (pots, pans, utensils), linen and bedding packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generators (great for Colorado Bend's water-only loops), bike racks, and propane refills. Delivery and setup is a big one, often priced per mile from the host's location plus a setup fee, and worth every penny for first-timers. You'll see all add-ons and the host's mileage policy directly on the listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a kitchen kit and you can show up with a suitcase.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lometa%2C%20TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It's straightforward and all handled in the app, no cash or paper checks with the host. When you book your RV rental in Lometa, you pay the rental total securely through RVezy with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, not actually charged unless there's damage or a policy violation. Return the rig clean, with tanks dumped and fuel topped off per the host's instructions, and the hold is released after the trip. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with your host at pickup and dropoff, it protects everyone and keeps that deposit release smooth.
