Camping near Marion, Texas
Marion sits in Guadalupe County in the Texas Hill Country, about 20 minutes east of downtown San Antonio and roughly 25 minutes south of New Braunfels off Interstate 10. The location puts RV travelers within an easy drive of the Guadalupe River, Cibolo Creek, Canyon Lake, and the San Antonio metro, with quick access to grocery, fuel, and repair services in Schertz, Cibolo, and Seguin.
Nearby RV parks range from full-hookup resort-style properties to quieter rural options. Hill Country RV Resort and Sun Retreats Texas Hill Country sit on the west side near New Braunfels, while Seguin Hill Top RV Resort and Canopy RV Resort serve travelers on the Seguin side. The Dam Park, run by the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, offers a more rustic waterside option along Lake Dunlap.
The area works well as a base for families combining river tubing, theme parks, and Hill Country day trips without repositioning the rig.
Things to do near Marion
The Guadalupe River is the main draw. Tubing, kayaking, and swimming are popular from late spring through summer, with outfitters in New Braunfels and Gruene renting tubes and running shuttles. Fly fishing for stocked rainbow trout is a winter option on the tailwater below Canyon Dam.
Guadalupe River State Park, about an hour northwest, offers river frontage, miles of hiking and mountain-bike trails, and guided tours into the adjacent Honey Creek State Natural Area. Closer to Marion, Cibolo Creek and Lake Dunlap provide paddling and fishing.
Family attractions in San Antonio include the River Walk, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, SeaWorld, and the Alamo. New Braunfels adds Schlitterbahn, the historic Gruene district, and the McKenna Children's Museum.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel. March through May brings wildflowers, mild days, and the region's wettest stretch, with May typically the peak rainfall month. Booking pressure rises around spring break and Easter, and Hill Country state parks routinely reach capacity on weekends.
Summer is the busiest tubing and river season. June through August is hot and humid, with afternoon highs regularly in the mid-90s Fahrenheit and heat indexes higher. Private RV resorts near the Guadalupe fill quickly on holiday weekends, and Texas State Park sites for summer stays are typically claimed the moment the five-month reservation window opens.
Fall brings cooler nights, lower crowds, and a second peak in rainfall as tropical moisture reaches Central Texas in September. Winter is mild and dry overall, with occasional freezes, and is a popular snowbird stretch on longer-stay RV sites.

My wife and I had a fantastic experience! The camper is well maintained, clean and comfortable. Couldn't have asked for more. I would like to add that the a/c worked perfectly, given the Florida weather even during the holiday season. Stephanie was a dream to work with, she has a great personality and made sure that we were well taken care of.

Great little camper. We will definitely rent it again

How to book a site
Texas State Parks, including Guadalupe River State Park, are managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Campsites and cabins can be reserved up to five months in advance through the TPWD reservation portal, with the booking window opening at 8 a.m. Central. Popular Hill Country parks fill within minutes of the window opening for weekends and holidays.
Day-use entry to state parks is separate from a camping reservation and can be booked up to one month ahead. A Texas State Parks Pass waives the daily entry fee for a full year.
Private RV resorts near Marion, including Hill Country RV Resort, Sun Retreats Texas Hill Country, Seguin Hill Top RV Resort, and Canopy RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer and major holidays, booking two to three months out is recommended for full-hookup pull-through sites.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Marion is gently rolling, with oak and cedar cover typical of the eastern Hill Country. Most private RV parks in the area offer full hookups, paved or gravel pads, laundry, and Wi-Fi, and many are set up for big-rig pull-throughs. State park sites tend to be more spread out with mixed hookups and shaded pads.
Summer heat is the main planning factor. Shade, awnings, and reliable 50-amp service matter, and afternoon thunderstorms can move through quickly. River access points can get crowded on summer weekends, so arriving early or paddling weekday mornings helps.
Cell service is generally strong across the corridor between San Antonio and Seguin. Grocery, propane, and RV supply are easiest to source in Schertz, Cibolo, Seguin, and New Braunfels.
