Campgrounds near McQueeney
McQueeney sits on the Guadalupe River in Guadalupe County, Texas, roughly midway between San Antonio and New Braunfels along Interstate 10. The community is built around Lake McQueeney, one of a chain of small hydroelectric reservoirs on the Guadalupe. Lake McQueeney and Lake Placid were drained after the nearly century-old dams that created them deteriorated beyond their usable lifespan. A replacement dam at Lake McQueeney reached substantial completion in early 2026, and the lake began refilling that spring, with full recovery dependent on rainfall and drought conditions.
RV travelers have a compact cluster of private parks close to the lake and to Seguin, the county seat about ten minutes east. Twin Palms RV Park and Seguin Hill Top RV Resort sit closest to the water, while Patriot RV Park-Seguin and Canopy RV Resort offer full-hookup sites geared to longer stays. The Dam Park provides day-use lake access at the south end of the reservoir.
The location works well as a base for Hill Country day trips, San Antonio attractions, and river tubing on the Comal and Guadalupe in nearby New Braunfels and Gruene.
Things to do around McQueeney
Lake McQueeney has long been known as a ski lake, and with the new dam operational, boating, wakeboarding, and fishing are returning as water levels rise. The Dam Park offers shoreline access, picnic areas, and a boat ramp on the south end of the lake. Anglers target largemouth bass, catfish, and sunfish along the Guadalupe River channel.
Off the water, Guadalupe River State Park lies northwest of McQueeney with hiking trails and river frontage suited to tubing and fishing. RV campers there can choose from water and electric hookup sites, with a smaller number offering full hookups. Day trips reach San Antonio's River Walk, SeaWorld, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and the historic town squares of Seguin and Gruene.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of south-central Texas. Daytime highs from mid-February through April and again from mid-October through November are comfortable, wildflowers bloom along Hill Country roads, and river levels are typically good for paddling and tubing.
Summer brings intense heat and humidity. August is the warmest month in the Seguin area, with average highs near 97°F (36°C) and lows near 74°F (23°C). Shaded sites, 50-amp hookups for air conditioning, and lake or river access become priorities. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and flash-flood watches along the Guadalupe should be monitored, since the river has produced major flood events in recent years.
Winters are short and mild but variable. Temperatures typically range from the low 40s to the mid 90s across the year, and are rarely below 30°F or above 101°F. Occasional hard freezes occur, so travelers should be prepared to protect water lines on cold nights.

RV was great! We had a wonderful time renting it for a weekend at COTA. Jesse was very responsive and helpful anytime we needed it.

Jesse is great! This is my second time renting a camper from him and he has been very easy to work with. We were camping locally and he even stopped by to check on us the day after our departure and brought us an outdoor rug just in case we got some rain! I highly recommend him and we will certainly be using him again in the future!

Booking a campsite near McQueeney
Private RV parks around McQueeney and Seguin, including Twin Palms RV Park, Seguin Hill Top RV Resort, Patriot RV Park-Seguin, and Canopy RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Weekends from March through May and around major summer holidays fill first; booking several weeks ahead is advisable for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
For Texas state parks in the area, such as Guadalupe River State Park and Palmetto State Park, reservations are handled through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system, which uses a rolling five-month booking window opening at 8 a.m. Central Time. Popular weekends often sell out the day sites become available, so setting a reminder for the release date improves the odds of securing a hookup site.
What to expect on the ground
Sites at parks around McQueeney lean toward level, gravel or grass pads with full or partial hookups. Most private parks accept large rigs and slide-outs, but pull-through availability varies, so confirm rig length and slide clearance at booking. Mature pecan and oak trees provide partial shade at several parks near the lake, which helps during summer heat.
Cell coverage is generally reliable across the McQueeney and Seguin area. Grocery, propane, and RV supply stops are available in Seguin, with larger service needs handled in New Braunfels or on the north side of San Antonio. Expect quiet-hour enforcement and pet-friendly policies at most private parks, with leash rules and cleanup expected.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near McQueeney, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in McQueeney, TX?
An RV rental in McQueeney is one of the most affordable ways to experience Texas Hill Country lake life. On RVezy, travel trailers around Lake McQueeney typically start near $95 to $145 per night, Class B and Class C motorhomes generally range from $165 to $240 per night, and Class A coaches often run $200 and up. To save, book Sunday through Thursday, avoid Fourth of July and Memorial Day weekends when Lake McQueeney is packed with boaters, and consider a towable that a host can deliver. Pro tip: a cheap RV rental in McQueeney often means choosing a travel trailer the host parks lakeside for you, so you skip fuel and towing costs entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=McQueeney%2C%20TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in McQueeney?
Good news: for nearly every RV rental in McQueeney, a regular Texas driver's license (or any valid state license) is all you need. Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and the vast majority of travel trailers and fifth wheels listed on RVezy fall well under the weight thresholds that would trigger a Texas non-commercial Class A or B license, and no Commercial Driver's License is required for personal RV use. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID is verified right inside the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set to rent an RV in Texas.

Every RV rental in McQueeney booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hitch up and head to Lake McQueeney with peace of mind. You choose your coverage level at checkout (not the host), with tiers from basic to premium that cover most accidental damage to the RV during your trip. Pro tip: pick a higher tier if you're a first-time renter or planning to tow a boat to the Guadalupe River boat ramps. You'll relax more knowing you're covered, and the upgrade cost is small compared to the added confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my McQueeney RV trip?
You're not locked in. RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every booking (not individual hosts), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can change your mind risk-free. The exact refund amount after that grace window depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits so you can rebook. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best lakeside RVs around McQueeney, then watch the forecast. If a tropical system or flood threat emerges, RVezy support is available 24/7 to walk you through your options.

Absolutely, the Hill Country is dog country. Plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in McQueeney, and you can find them quickly on RVezy by using the Pet-Friendly filter when you search. Texas State Parks like Palmetto and Guadalupe River welcome leashed pets at campsites, though not in buildings or designated swim areas. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and ask about their preferred cleanup routine. They almost always say yes.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/pets-in-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or lake house in McQueeney?
Yes, RV delivery in McQueeney is one of the smartest ways to rent, especially if it's your first time. Many RVezy hosts in the McQueeney, Seguin, and New Braunfels area will tow a travel trailer or fifth wheel directly to your site at a local RV park or private lakefront property, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through everything. Just filter by Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your destination address. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're planning a Lake McQueeney boating weekend, since you can skip the tow vehicle entirely and focus on the water.

For state-park lovers, Palmetto State Park (about 25 miles east) features dwarf-palmetto trails and RV sites with water and electric, while Guadalupe River State Park (about 35 miles northwest) is a longtime Hill Country favorite. Pro tip: book private lake parks 2 to 3 months out for summer weekends, they fill fast once school lets out.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/palmettoWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in McQueeney?
The sweet spot for an RV trip in McQueeney is mid-February through May and again from mid-October through November, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 82 degree range and the Guadalupe River runs clear and cool. Summers (June through September) are hot and humid, often climbing into the mid-90s, but they're prime time for tubing, swimming, and Lake McQueeney boating, just rent an RV with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild with average highs in the low 60s and only occasional freezes. Pro tip: book a spring trip to catch Texas bluebonnets along Highway 90 and FM 78. April weekends around McQueeney are pure Hill Country magic.
weather.gov/ewx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around McQueeney?
You'll do great, even if it's your first time renting an RV. McQueeney sits on flat, open Hill Country roads with easy access to Interstate 10 and Highway 90, so there's no white-knuckle mountain driving or tight urban maneuvering required. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, and the awning, and you can message them throughout your trip with questions. Most first-timers pick a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer with delivery for an easier start. Pro tip: take a 20-minute practice loop on FM 725 or River Road before heading out. Wide lanes and light traffic make this an ideal place to find your RV legs.
txdot.gov/What if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in McQueeney through RVezy comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included in your protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something stops working inside the RV, message your host first since they know their rig best, and RVezy's customer support team is also on call around the clock. McQueeney has multiple RV service shops nearby in Seguin and New Braunfels, so help is rarely far away. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so you can share it instantly if you ever need roadside dispatch.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my McQueeney RV rental on a road trip out of state or to Mexico?
Cross-state trips are absolutely on the table. Many RVezy hosts in McQueeney allow travel throughout the lower 48, so you can plan an RV road trip from McQueeney to New Orleans (about 540 miles east), the Grand Canyon (around 1,150 miles west), or up to Colorado's Rockies for a summer escape. Just message the host before booking to confirm your route. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage stop at the US border. Pro tip: popular multi-state loops from McQueeney include the run west to White Sands in New Mexico and the Gulf Coast swing through Galveston, Mobile, and the Florida Panhandle. Pick your route, then book a host who's road-trip friendly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the fuel budget for an RV trip around McQueeney?
Texas gas prices are typically among the lowest in the country, which makes a McQueeney RV trip easier on the wallet than the same trip out of California or the Northeast. Expect Class A motorhomes to deliver 7 to 10 miles per gallon, Class C around 10 to 14 mpg, Class B campervans 18 to 22 mpg, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer about 10 to 13 mpg. RV-friendly fueling options include the Buc-ee's in New Braunfels (about 14 miles away) and several truck stops along Interstate 10 near Seguin. Pro tip: fuel up at Buc-ee's, the lanes are wide, prices are sharp, and the snack selection alone is worth the detour.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near McQueeney?
For the best campgrounds near McQueeney, book 3 to 5 months ahead for any weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day, especially Fourth of July, which is peak Lake McQueeney season. Texas State Parks like Palmetto and Guadalupe River (about 35 miles northwest) open their reservation window 5 months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department portal, and popular sites can disappear quickly. Private parks around the lake generally book 2 to 3 months out. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for 5 months before your trip date and log in right when the reservation window opens. That's how locals snag riverside sites at Guadalupe River State Park.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/reservationsWhat are local driving conditions like around McQueeney?
Driving an RV in McQueeney is refreshingly easy. The terrain is flat to gently rolling, roads are wide, and the main routes (Interstate 10, US Highway 90, and FM 725) are well-maintained with good shoulders. Watch for two local quirks: low-water crossings on country roads near the Guadalupe River, which can flood quickly during heavy spring rains, and occasional deer at dawn and dusk along FM 78. Summer thunderstorms can also bring strong crosswinds on I-10 between Seguin and San Antonio. Pro tip: if you see a Turn Around Don't Drown sign at a low-water crossing, take it seriously. Texas flash floods are no joke, and rerouting 10 minutes is always the right call.
drivetexas.org/What amenities will I find at McQueeney-area campgrounds?
Most RV parks around McQueeney offer full hookups (30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and a dump station. Lakeside parks add direct lake access and boat ramps, while Stone Creek RV Park in Seguin has an easy-access waste-disposal area and a small store. Texas State Parks like Palmetto and Guadalupe River offer water and electric at most RV sites plus centralized dump stations, though not sewer at the pad. For fresh water top-offs and dumping on the road, RV service centers in San Antonio (about 30 miles west) are a reliable stop. Pro tip: always confirm 50-amp availability if you're renting a Class A, smaller parks sometimes only offer 30-amp.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/guadalupe-riverWhat's actually inside a typical RV rental in McQueeney?
You'll feel right at home. A typical motorhome rental in McQueeney comes fully equipped with a queen or king bed, a dinette and sofa that convert to extra sleeping space, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioning (essential for Texas summers), a furnace, and seatbelts for travel. Many listings also include a TV, Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, and onboard generators for off-grid stays. Travel trailers are similarly outfitted minus the cab. Pro tip: review the listing photos and amenities checklist carefully, and message the host about anything specific you need, like a CPAP-friendly outlet or a coffee maker. Hill Country mornings on the patio with fresh coffee are unbeatable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=McQueeney%2C%20TexasWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for when I rent an RV in McQueeney?
The right add-ons turn a good trip into a great one. Popular extras for an RV rental in McQueeney include linen and kitchen kits, portable generators, bike racks, kayaks or paddleboards (perfect for Lake McQueeney), outdoor grills, and propane refills. Most hosts also offer delivery and setup for a flat fee or per-mile rate. Mileage policies typically allow 100 to 150 free miles per day with a per-mile rate beyond that, or you can filter for unlimited mileage listings on RVezy. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a paddleboard add-on and your campervan rental in McQueeney will be ready to launch from the lakeshore without lifting a hitch.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=McQueeney%2C%20TexasHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Texas through RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, so no cash ever changes hands with your host. Security deposit amounts are set per listing and shown clearly before you confirm; they're authorized (not charged) on your card around pickup and released within a few business days after drop-off, assuming no damage or extra cleaning. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with your host at both pickup and return. It documents the RV's condition and almost always leads to a smooth, fast deposit release so you can start planning your next family RV trip from McQueeney.
