The Pattison area follows a humid subtropical pattern. Houston experiences hot summers and mild winters, with rainfall spread fairly evenly through the year and heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms during the warmer months. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with lower humidity and moderate temperatures. Summer camping requires planning around heat and storms. June through August are very hot and humid, often with scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Full-hookup sites with strong electrical service are worth prioritizing so air conditioning can run continuously. Atlantic hurricane season peaks in late summer and early fall, so travelers should monitor the National Hurricane Center when booking August through October trips. Winters are generally mild but not frost-free. The average January high near Houston is around 63 degrees Fahrenheit and the low around 43, and George Bush Intercontinental Airport averages roughly nine to ten days per year of freezing temperatures. Occasional hard freezes make winterizing water lines a sensible precaution, especially for rigs staying through January and early February.

Private RV parks in the Pattison corridor are largely open, level, and built for larger rigs, with full hookups, laundry, and pull-through sites common. Shade is limited at some newer parks, so travelers with slide-out awnings will appreciate the extra sun protection. Cell coverage on major carriers is generally strong along I-10. At Main - Stephen F Austin State Park and Historic Site, expect a mix of site types with clear restrictions. The full-hookup RV loop has 38 pull-through sites with water, sewer, and 30-amp electric, plus additional water-and-electric sites, tent sites, and screened shelters. No RVs or pop-ups are allowed in tent sites 41 through 80 or primitive sites 81 through 105, generators are not permitted, and quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Park gate hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; campers with reservations should contact park headquarters at 979-885-3613 for late arrivals. Mosquitoes and ticks are active from spring through fall along the Brazos bottomlands, so repellent is essential.
